I'm due to go up to Statller on wednesday for the Hammer and TBH. i'm still not 100% i'm choosing the right map?

Yes all remaps/companys have + and - here are a few of mine.

GIAC Hammer + very smooth powerful map , more torque than the others, can switch maps on the move. - GIAC's stock map instead of your own factory map , nearest dealer is 30-40 miles away , GIAC cars seem to have a few problems ( that could be because more people have there maps on here )

Revo + smooth powerful map , more BHP ( from what i have seen ) than the others , can play with settings , nearest dealer is down the road ( Prosport and has rollers ) - Revo's stock map instead of your own factory map , not got the low down grunt as the GIAC , the extra power is at the top end.

Bluefin + smooth map , customer service , Bluefin stock map is your own factory map. - Can't switch on the move , not as powerful as the other two , have to install it all yourself , no dealer to go back to.

As you can see , i'm really torn between all three!

Any advice , or good and bad comments about any of the maps would be great!

I'm more nervous than looking forward to it.:scared2:

Thanks

p

Ey up Leon.
After reading every thread and piece of info in the universe on this subject and speaking with GIAC and Revo directly as well as a few of their dealers in the UK - I'm booked in to have the Milltek turbo back exhaust and Revo tomorrow with AmD Technik.

Will let you know how it goes !

I've had my hammer map on for a few months now mate, and run a Forge induction kit too....absolutely no probs, and that's with the earlier 'H' fuel pump which apparently causes some probs, and having to use basic 95ron down in Devon....the ECU seems to adapt very quickly.

Go for it,Steve at Statller seems a good bloke, have a chat with him,he's not the kind of bloke that'll sell you something he doesn't have total faith in!

Then enjoy!

Not had any problems with mine Leon. I don't think you'll be dissappointed - in the end, you just have to bite the bullet and part with the cash!

For me, the GIAC seemed more driveable - less outright BHP than the Revo, but more torques (© J Clarkson). Not been dissappointed with mine since getting it done :)

Hi Phantom,

I've covered about 2500 miles on mine with the GIAC. Not had a single problem. It's deceptively quick as it is smooth as hell in it's delivery. GIAC seem to have a very VERY good reputation over in the states and I'm very pleased with mine.

With regards to the stock map, I covered this in another thread, the stock map they put on is the LATEST stock map suitable for your car direct from Audi. GIAC send this back with the most appropriate remapped software.

With regards the Revo, I personally, don't want to have to mess around with settings. The GIAC map is optimised to give good smooth performance with noticable gains, with reliability on your car.

How much is it going to cost you?
The Regal Rolling Road day on Oct 4th would get you 30% off RRP?????!!!!

I wouldn't be worried about it mate - it transforms the car!

J

Nice one Leon, and tell me what you think as I'm probably going down this route just before xmas (when saved the pennies up) - you going for the full switchable map ?
And can I have a go to see what its like afterwards ??

Richard

I notice that nobody on here talks about Chipped UK? Any reason for this? They have the ST3 unit which, from what I can gather, is very similar to the Bluefin unit.

Get it done, they are pretty busy and jnr goes away shortly so you will have a long wait.

Really does make a big difference especially in third gear!!!!!

I might see if he can squeeze me in on weds for the fuel pump.

Done a bit of a deal £600 cash on the hip , for the Hammer , flash loader , stock map , and kill map! decent value i think.

leon

I know Southampton is a Loooooong way from you, but it would be about £460 with the 30% discount at Regal, maybe a bit more with the Kill function, but only about £20 or so.
Might be worth a thought???

Its funny, before you get anything done to your pride and joy, all these worries/concerns arise, but once done you will be so happy, and wonder why the car didn't come out of the factory like it.

Good luck and enjoy

It'll cost you about a hundred notes in petrol, travelling down to Regal in Soton, and the journey can be a 'mare....i used to do it every weekend! So you won't really save that much....and why wait to have sooo much fun....just do it!

I went for the same package as you've opted for,and it makes me grin every single day:yahoo:

Im on my 3rd REVO remap, previously MK4 and MK5 Golfs and now S3.

Brilliant product, excellent aftersales, proven product within the VAG and Porsche fraternity and strong ties with Motorsport.
They also have a huge network in the UK, europe and on the continent so that tells a story in itself.

Regarding the user adjustability of the map, basically the dealer will adjust the settings to suit you and then thats it done. Its unlikely you will change them again, I never have in the past.

Cant comment on the others although I might have considered GIAC if I had a dealer nearby as its does seem to come highly recommended.

Heard too many indifferent reports about Bluefin which is a shame as its an excellent system and competatively priced.

Good luck.

Paul

I posted on UKMKIVs a few weeks back and according to one of the agents, CHpped Uk dont have a map yet for the 8P S3.

Chipped UK seem to have a very good reputation in VW circles.

cheers

I'm a Revo guy myself but to be honest I think any of the big tuners maps will be fairly similar. I've had 2 Revo maps and I also had my sisters Gti Revo'd. I tinker with the settings for track days and things like that, otherwise, like my sister she just turns the map off when it goes into the garage for a service and that's it.
I also had the VF GIAC stage 2 supercharer map and race file.
The Revo SPS unit is a little bit smarter but harder to use, the security feature is quite smart too. And the GIAC Flash loader is a bit clunky with it's long lead but it's easy to use (+ I think you have to pay extra for the kill code?)

One thing i'm not sure on.... GIAC is an American company, and i know the VF GIAC map for my R32 when it was supercharged was designed for 91-93ron so I got the race file as it was designed for 100ron. I know the ECU will adapt but is the map originally setup on 95/97ron or 99ron in the US or tweaked in the uk for our fuel?

When I had mine fitted I was advised that the UK maps are now configured for Super, so 98+ RON.

i got mine done up at star performance on thursday last week i went for the hammer, the flashloader, stock and valet. i then spent the whole weekend driving up to fort william and loch ness etc with the map installed and tbh its just perfect i couldnt recommend it enough. Plus it averaged 35mpg for the whole 800 mile trip.
also I used the valet mode yesterday for a run into the local town and got 40mpg lol.

You say Revo doesn't have the low down torque of the GIAC??
2 Edition 30's on same rollers.. One GIAC one Revo..

GIAC

Revo (Mine)

As you can see there is not a lot between them really.. Both give out good torque and power. Going off other results I would stick with one of these two and give Bluefin a miss..
Oh and if you have cash on the hip, you can get Revo for £500 and a Select switch for £75 off Ebay..

On this point - tomorrow I'm getting Revo with before and after dyno runs plus the Select switch - for £499. That's on the credit card too.

i take it your kicking the bluefin into touch then if your going for a revo?

I'm getting a Milltek TBE fitted tomorrow and the dealer I'm using is a Revo specialist who had seen our Bluefin threads. He's offered to upload Revo, do a few dyno runs, few road tests and if I like it I can have it. Otherwise he'll do the Milltek and I can drive away with my Bluefin.
He's very confident I'll be blown away but I'm keeping an open mind ..... (well, trying to !).

That is a good deal mate.. Where is that at?
Make sure you let us all know the results.. ;)

I have the TBE Milltek and Revo and they go very well together mate. If you don't make over 320bhp i'll be very very shocked.. ;)

See post below Vtec - it may be because I'm getting the Milltek at the same time but I still think its a great deal too. Sorted it through Shaun at AmD Technik.

good timing, let us know how you get on and if you get 320 like v tec says then i will probably go for the miltek over the autotech pump.

Deal of the century on the remap package, well done!

Will do - Phantom see if you can get dyno plots and do a write up on GIAC for comparison. We know dyno readouts are dodgy but might help future remappers are undecided (like us !!!) decide one way or the other ....

GIAC cars seem to have a few problems
I'm more nervous than looking forward to it.:scared2: p

I'm coming up to 9000 miles on my GIAC map with (touch wood) no problems. Thats including driving like i stole it on the Ring and Autobahn.

I might book a couple of runs on Prosports rollers for saturday if they can fit me in.

I know my un-tamperd with car is doing 280+bhp on there rollers , so i'll run a GIAC stock map and the Hammer file and have it layered over.

Haven't all the problems revolved around the exhaust valve rather than anything more sinister?

Right - I can't remember which post it was where all sort of questions where asked about the GIAC software and how it works etc, so here is the reply I got:

Q1. The GIAC standard map you have the option of switching back to. Is this a GIAC map (ie still a remapped version) or is it a copy of the original/latest Audi standard software?

A1. This is the OE map with the most up to date version, so there is no need for the dealer to up date the software.

Q2. Flash counter. Is this set to stay at 1 or 0, or does it automatically delete any additional flashes. Ie, if a car already had flash count of 3 from Audi work, would it stay at 3 when the GIAC is added.

A2. It will always stay on the number that was already present on the ECU. If a dealer still reflashes, the GIAc will need to be re-insalled, but will then keep the flash count to what the dealer last flashed the ECU to.

Q3. How detectable is it to a dealer?

A3. Zero as the flasher and security counters are not increased and the software code is the most up to date. Only a boost check will indicate that there is software. However the tech has to know what he is looking at.

Hope that helps answer some people's queries.

Ive had a change of heart........the cars booked in at Prosport for a Revo on saturday morning.

Why the change? well the main one is i really like and trust Peter the owner , and he can be at my house in ten mins with his laptop if i ever have any problems!

Also £600 gets me a Revo remap , Revo select plus and a few rollin road runs!:)

p

Good choice, Im sure GIAC is as good as people say, but I guarantee you will be hugely impressed with your car after its had the REVO treatment.

Interesting choice Leon with the Revo the torque figures favours GIAC for me at the moment. Like you I trust Pete from Prosport as well - known him since 2001 and I know what he is like if anything however slight goes wrong or he feels your not happy !
Still cant decide between the Revo and the GIAC !

I would very interested to here which settings you run.

Im planning to have the Timing backed off and will then be running:

Boost = 7
Timing= 6
Fuel = 9

With VPower of course.

Im wont pretend to be an expert on the science behind this, Ive just ran these before based on recommendation and a little trial and error and the car felt great.

cheers

All Revo dealers can do the Select for £49,99 and the select plus for £99,99 ATM you have to get your dealer to send a form off to Revo within 28 days of your remap! get it done PaulAR.
