I could have a problem. Ive got a wedding this day that i didnt know about, the only chance i might have of being able to attend is if im first in line but obviously i dont just expect that so i may have to pull out. What time is it all starting and how long do we think we are looking at for a dyno run, re-map and then back on the dyno? Im guessing exhaust is going to have to wait.

Hey Rich - we can put you first in-line.
Will confirm times nearer the date, but will amke a note on the master list to put you in early doors.
What time do you need to be away?

J

No problem mate.
I'm guessing we'll be kicking off 9am... will confirm nearer the time tough if that's ok?

J

Yeah no problem, keep me posted. Ill let you know when i need to be away when i find out for sure.

Thanks

Jamie... how many places have you got left for the rolling road?

I have another friend who is coming down with us and he said if there is a spare place he'd maybe like to go on rollers too.

Hey max - have added them down as maybe's.
When we get a little closer to the date I'll do a role call to everyone to get 100% commitment as it's still a little way off yet.
I'm sure Regal will do all they can to accomodate everyone.

Hope that's Ok

put me down if there are any spaces left please, already have the giac hammer and should have uprated fuel pump fitted aswell.

Autotech or APR ?

im going to sound a bit daft here but im unsure, all i know is that its just uprated internals with the same housing. Just waiting for steve jnr from Stattler to call back.

That will be the autotech one then

hmmm i had read that the cam bucket should be replaced but i am slightly concerned at the possible problems.

How much is the APR? Is this a complete new pump and housing and does it have the risks that are present with the autotech?

I'm no expert - but I did read as much as possible on this whole issue as the fuel pump was my next plan. The APR is much less risky as you are replacing the whole unit (£700+) but even they do recommend a cam inspection which shows there is a known risk/issue/problem.

I spoke with the Tech Director at SuperChips and his view was that the S3 engine is pretty much on the limit at 310 - 315bhp. Anything over this and you may have to start replacing hardware (like the fuel pump). Problem then is that you just pass the problem on somewhere else - replace the fuel pump and temperatures will rise to the point where you need a better intercooler. And on it goes. I've left it well alone.

well its logical i suppose, that has really put me off now though. I may just go for a sport cat and front pipe and retain the standard catback as the catback doesnt seem to give much in the way of gains.

I'm honestly no expert mate. Search for ZBOYD's post in the "Prosport Rolling Road Day Results" thread July 2008 - he knows far more than me and goes into some detail with pics to explain the whole issue.

On the exhaust - if you're going Milltek you will need the whole thing otherwise you'll have fitment issues (I've looked into this too and have sacked it). I'm a right doomsday machine for you today aren't I ??!!

After weeks of research I'm leaving my car as it currently is in my sig. Nothing else performance wise (IMO) is worth the investment ..... I'm getting a full detail instead of the exhaust and keeping the leftover £700. :)

hmmmm so full miltek or nothing!!! is it worth the £1k? Did your forge cai make much difference?

hmmmm so full miltek or nothing!!! is it worth the £1k? Did your forge cai make much difference?

I've decided that the Milltek is not worth £1,215. That is over 5% of the car's entire value and is it REALLY going to give me £1,215 worth of performance gain ? I doubt it. Yeah it might cool the turbo temperature down a touch (3 bhp ?) and maybe sound a little better with the BOSE turned off (hardly ever) - but for me there are better things to spend my cash on. The Forge CAI was £120 - completely different ball game. Plus if/when I sell the S3 the Milltek would have to come off and would fetch about £8.80 as a second hand item on eBay.

I'm taking the £1,215 I'd budgeted for the Milltek and plan on a series of other goodies which will I think (IMO) will give me better value for money:

1. SDS Hack (£60) - already done: transforms the RNS-E
2. Full exterior and interior detail - £350
3. H&R springs - £250
4. Facelift rear lights - £180
5. New interior mats all round - £100
6. Three extra trackdays at Oulton/Anglesey - £300

All just my opinion though ....

i think along the same lines, although im a car nut i always look at the financial aspect of the mods.

Dont forget the spacers!!!

Milltek turbo back and a good remap will get you to around 330bhp, so definitely mmore than a 3bhp increase. It is expensive but ask anyone who has one and they will tell you they are worth it

Is it worth pushing for confrimed numbers yet???
Let me know if you're 100% and then we can make sure all interested can have a shot.

Thanks

Cheers S3-N but mine is an August 2007 build with the "H" fuel pump (sadly) so I wouldn't want 330bhp without either blagging a "J" pump out of Audi or stumping up £700 for an APR.

how easy is it to find which fuel pump the car comes with? I presume that the later model is stronger and can cope with more power?

Iggu is like the bible!!!!

I'm no bible mate honest. The engine cover needs to be removed (I did this when fitting my Forge CAI) - quite easy to do. The fuel pump is on the right as you look at the engine and the serial number is printed on the top. The last letter ("H" in my case) tells you which version you have - if you have the "J" pump it is uprated to cope with the fuelling issues which a heavily modded (ie. over 315bhp) 2.0FSI engine will always come up against.

My car is/was running the 'H' pump, mine came out with 337bhp and 343ft/lbs on the Prosport dyno

After the PCV mod and full 3" exhaust which I fitted after that date the car made 350Bhp and 345ft/lbs (358bhp on FWD mode) on Regal's dyno whilst being baselined for a before and after comparisson after the big turbo kit goes on..

With the correct mapping and hardware I think that the fuel pump copes fine!

If the map is requesting lots of boost in the mid range where the fuel pump can not deliver then you will have problems, the GIAC software seems to cope fine, I never had a single problem with my car and I drive it hard pretty much all the time, all weather etc etc..

I had a massive problem with my Golf GTI (revo software) When the car was bought by Regal and had the GIAC software put on it and with exactly the same fuel and hardware the car made more power and had zero problems..

IMO its more of a mapping issue than anything else..

Iggu: What is the SDS hack for the Nav, do you think you would be able to send me a PM with some more details? :)

Thanks

Jonny

SDS Hack allows you to operate the full RNS-E functions by speaking at the RNS-E rather inputting data using the wheel. So you say "Navigate to office" or "Phone JonnyC" or "Play next track" and it understands and does it for you. Its truly hands free - you use the PTT button on the steering wheel and let your voice do the rest.

Search for SDS Hack (loads of info) on how to do it. Mark Quinlivan was the usual mine of information when I was getting mine sorted.

Didn't do a PM in case others are interested and haven't seen this yet.

Now return the favour Jonny - what's a PCV mod ??

Let me know if you're 100% and then we can make sure all interested can have a shot.

I'm 100% for the day, but think I shall just be going for the power run rather than the GIAC now . I am hatching another car related plan, so want to resist spending too much on the S3 at the moment ;) . In the meantime, I'll make do with the Carbonio and BMC panel...

Phil

Thanks for that mate!

The PCV mod basically removes the chance of the PCV opening up and allowing boost from the inlet manifold to leak back into the crank case, it does mean that you have to run the crank case to atmosphere but you can prevent loosing a couple of PSI boost when the PCV is open, when I get back home and get the car back ill post some pics of the install..

Thanks

Jonny

what mods did you have to achieve 350bhp? Also how long was the car in that state of tune for? Have you had any issues with it? Who did you use for the work?

Sorry for all the questions i am looking into an uprated fuel pump and some other parts but have come across some horror stories.

GIAC Hammer File
Full 3" Exhaust
Evoms Intake
Forge DV
Custom PCV Mod
Custom Cold Air Feed

V-Power all the time..

Lots of other things too such as, Sachs clutch kit, Full VF Engine mount kit..

Check out my build thread for all of the info, will be running 400+ in a week or so!!! :):):)
