I've never personally had to / tried to break into my car but if some lowlife were to try and steal it, then how good a job would the standard A3 immobiliser and alarm do? I currently use a steering wheel lock in addition to my normal alarm when I have to park in dodgy places.

Toad alarms are pretty good, try and get the red scanner if you can and pick up an older toad siren off ebay, they are fkn loud... the newer ones have had to be tamed down due to some random EU law.

Having said that if its gonna happen it will regardless of what security you have, just try to make yours less of an easy target.

Thanks for the reply, but I guess what I'm asking is how easy would it be for a car thief to steal an A3 with the standard alarm compared to if I got a cat 1 alarm?

I believe that most audi's are quite easy to break into (my other half is a forensic piglet), that combined with the digital watch beep audi call an alarm isn't a good mix in my book

I firmly belive that no one would be able to steal an A3/S3

As soon as the alarm goes off, the would be theif is more than likely to **** themselves laughing at how quiet and pathetic it is, and then run off in search of clean dry trousers

Mine went off in the work carpark outside my roller door and the only reason I knew it was going off was beacuse I saw the lights flashing!

makes me laugh - i saw a brand new TT with a crook lock the other day:haha:

Get a Clifford, they seem to be very loud.
The EU law is a joke, lets not disturb people's watching of Eastenders eh? Nevermind the £20,000+ car that's being vandalised outside.

Ive got a Hornet cat 1 alarm on mine and its ****** loud!

Saying that though if some-one wants to steal your car they will!

Jason

I saw a test on the news a while back about safer cars and a newish audi A3 was being tested against an Escort. The guy couldnt break into the audi and when they let him in he couldnt get it started.
I think the immobiliser and the rest does a fairly good job, the likely hood is with these cars if someone wants to steal it they are gonna go for your keys.

Well if the car's not going anywhere very easily then do you think it may just be worth delocking the car?

what so they have to break a window instead?..... i cant see the benefit in fitting another unit unless your after a louder siren (replace the existing perhaps?) and/or a proximity alarm to deter people in range.....

I'm not keen on the idea of proximity alarms, I figure if some little chav is walking past and then the proximity alarm gives a warning, he's more likely to key the car.

my thoughts exactly mate..... TBH i wouldnt bother unless you wanted a louder system...in which case id source a different siren and thats it...whats the point in starting a seperate wired system when the Audi 1 is adequate enough....

Anyone wanting your car would HAVE to have a good knowledge of how to get past your existing system...in which case id expect them to be pro's with a low loader.... A3/S3 not exactly these guys target vehicles:eek:)

I think I'll just replace the existing siren with a louder one and delock the car then. I think I recall someone saying that the siren is located in the rear offside wheel arch?

nope im sure its in front of the drivers side arch at the front..... it was on my old 1.8T.....

i wouldnt bother delocking....why would they go for the lock, im probably giving them more credit than they are due here... but i would imagine the days of a flat blade in a lock actually working..are long gone

Looks like I'm just after a louder siren then, I don't know why they don't just use the normal car horn as a siren

Euro noise factors as someone mentioned above fella..... apparently ze Germans are annoyed with loud sirens.... i personally love them

Zose crazy germans! I'll whip out the horn and siren and replace them with one loud little beastie

I believe some A3's/S3's do have it (not sure which years though) wired to the horn as standard, how easy would it be to DIY? If someone clued up on here knows which wires to connect etc... I would attempt it for sure, deffo a worthwhile low cost diy job imo.

Only thing to bear in mind if you do de-lock it is that if your central locking system fails (And Convienience units do have a habbit of going, think theyve been thru atleast 5 supersessions now!) then your a bit screwed really

Atleast with a key lock you can gain access yourself, Id not be wanting to put my window thru if my car became immobilised

think the sirens in the boot, you need to bring it to the front of the car and its a lot louder...thats what d-tech did to his.
a friend of mine knew some dodgy characters and they say the only way they'll get your car is via the keys as the immobiliser is bulletproof

I agree with the comments above...

I don't see much point with getting an additional alarm, maybe changing the standard alarm to a louder one but even that is not going to make much difference. At the end of the day if someone wants to destroy / steel / mess around with your car they will do it.

Where you park it etc probably has alot more to do with it than anything else.
:undwech:

An coincidentally my head isnt, so think most people would hand over the keys

No NO NO NO Ryan! I meant take your keys upstairs at night or somewhere equally as safe,I would hand my keys over in an instant if someone wished to pop a cap in my *** for them.

If anyone wants to pop anything in my *** they can have my keys dude! :p

I knew what you meant anyway mate! Scary how many people get jumped on their driveway and the keys taken or the houses broken into for nowadays

Its usually for Porshces etc, or maybe an RS4, dont think 8L S3 owners have too much to worry about (Well I hope not, if not there are some theves out there with very low ambitions!)

hate you Maz, i want them wheels on mine:)

Dont even think about it!!!:gun2: I'm well happy with them but have to admit they weigh enough to make a noticeable difference. More so before I lowered the car.

so can you just change the siren then and swap over for a aftermarket one ?
