Unhappy S3 Bluefin Owners.

Good question - not sure how that works given that SC remap your own car's specific map. Would my map fit your car Staz ? Dunno.

I've no problem at all with you using my name etc. and contacting SC to see if this "latest" map can be made available. I bet if you tell them there is positive commentary on ASN at the moment they'd be more than willing to email it over to your handset. PM me with your email address if you like and I'll forward you the emails between me and Jamie together with my details.

Your map would fit mine yes for sure. I was going to suggest I use your name and get them to send me that map. I don't intend to do it until I am in the UK though (Aug). I'll PM you closer to the time mate.

I thank you Sir!

I'm sure they'll send you the new file, you will need to quote Iggu reg as they use this for customer filing etc, I'm not at all suprised at the excellent customer service as this has always been my experience.

Glad you're happy now Iggu :)

Thankyou for starting the thread Spin140 - you were absolutely right to recommend contacting Jamie. I'm guessing you are happy customer of theirs from before .....

UPDATE

So I contacted Superchips last week so I could change my map for the one they made for Iggu (thanks mate!) and within a couple of hours I recieved the magic text!

I must say there was a big difference to the drive. The boost still comes on at about 2500rpm but it's not so pronounced. It just builds gradually all the way up the range to the top. It's very fast without a doubt and before you know it you're doing some pretty high speeds. I won't say how fast I got to but getting there was pretty unreal.

But, the low down torque and grunt had gone. I found I had to change down a gear more often than usual. When I'm on the motorway doing a long distance I generally stick it in 6th and stay there. I found to make any real progress after a touch of traffic I had to change down to 4th. Also at junctions I always had to drop down a gear lower than normal to stay within the powerband.

I contacted Superchips again and asked if they could do another custom map using the lower half or the original and top from Iggu's map and if not could I have the original map back.

Again, a couple of hours later I recieved a text but I had to wait until the morning to download the new map as the server was off (it was in the evening).

The new map is exactly what I asked for. The torque is back and the power is still there. If I want to take it easy I can relax in one gear, when I want to put my foot down it just keeps pulling all the way to the top!

It's the map it should have been from the start!

PM sent Staz - I want it !
You can't fault SuperChips for service can you ???

Not at all! I bought the thing Jan '07 for my previous car and they're still happy to help me out. Top notch!

Now that is service.... sounds like you now have something similar to what the GIAC delivers.
Either of you coming to the Regal rolling road???? be good to see the difference?

Not me I'm afraid, only in the UK for a few more days.

I wonder if they could make a reference of your map so others could select it. I am on the fence about chipping for that torque reason so a good balance of both would be good. Any ideas?

You can mate. In the same way as I got Iggu's and now he's going to get mine you just tell them my name and handset number (PM me) and they'll give you the same.

Leon, Any chance of posting your figures or plot?
Thanks

My SC plots are up here somewhere on a different thread - but that was my old map. I'm on my THIRD map from Superchips now - and all for £450 !

Are you liking the Staz map mate???

Not tried it out mate - here's the thing. Spoke to Joe at SC and he looked carefully at the two maps and said if I switched to your map I'd be down on power throughout the rev range from what I currently have.

I think the big thing with SC which we are experiencing is that they apply the map to each individual car whereas GIAC etc. use their standard map. SuperChips is more bespoke in that sense. As Joe said your standard map will be different to mine. He reckons this is why the "Iggu" map wasn't great on your car and why the "Staz" map would leave mine under-powered.

So I'm sticking with mine. He did invite me down to the SC HQ for a full dyno custom map and offered to take me through the whole process. Unreal service.

All for free??

Jo (is how it was spelled on the emails) is a bloke?! lol

Yeah I asked for "Jo" thinking it would be a girl (short for Joanne) - and this gruff bloke's voice came on the phone. I was thrown for a minute !

There was no mention of any fee - it was like "come on down here and we'll show you round and get you on the dyno."

lol Maybe it was one of those girls who plays rugby and hockey. Not being stereotypical of course.

Wow they just get better and better! Are you going to take the opportunity?

That's not quite 100% true with regards to GIAC. When I had mine done I was nosying over Chris's shoulder the whole time.

Basically, with GIAC, they plug a laptop in and take a copy of your ECU.
This tells GIAC everything about how the car is running and also all the relevent ECU info.
This is then sent to GIAC who have maps' developed for everytype of ECU. You will get the map back that suits your ECU specifically. And that map is permanantly attached to your ECU - the same map can not be used on another car.
As far as I'm aware, the standard map with GIAC is a copy of YOUR car's map, not GIAC's version of standard - why would they go to the pain of developing a standard one????

As far as I know, that is exactly the same as what Superchips do, only their flash loader offers the benefit of downloading a file Superchips have sent to you so there is no need for a dealer visit.

I do think the service Superchips have given you two is great though :applaus: , however, do you not feel like guinea pig's? Seems odd to launch a map that isn't delivering on the promise? Don't get me wrong, I think it's great they have sorted you out, but I'd have hoped it would be right from the off!

I don't mind being used as a guinea pig to be honest. But I still maintain that the original map was a huge leap forward from the standard one anyway. I was very happy with it and have only changed it because more power is always good :arco:

Amen to that mate!
Like I said, I think there service since you guys raised it with them has been incredible. They get a well earned pat on the back for that.

I've always had great service from Superchips but I do think the key thing is use the HQ, Jamie recognises the 'power' of forums like these so strives to keep customers happy, I'm fairly confident if you visit the HQ for a dyno this will be FOC and a tour is always worth it as all very interesting.

Glad to be of help.

I asked Jo from Superchips if he could give me an answer to the questions raised by devonmikeyboy a few days ago. Basically I sent him this quote:

Superchips may be able to update your map for free but unless you have your car on a dyno or you are sending them VAG COM logs before and after the map they are basically just guessing what to alter which is a very bad and crude way to map cars so should hope it is for free.

He didn't respond initially but aster a reminder this morning he has sent me this reply:

Good afternoon Leon,

I’m pleased to hear your car is running well, thank you for the positive feedback.

As regards your question this has been the cause of some discussion here you will be interested to know. Due to our company profile I don’t want to provide you with a simple answer for you to simply post on the forum as a topic of discussion. What we are doing though is putting together an official statement including a release on new Bluefin functions which will help customers with other aftermarket modifications and therefore software requirements beyond the standard Superchip.

Please bear with me on this as we are finalising a few things still and I can’t say too much until we are ready to go. We appreciate your positive views expressed within the community though. I will get the official company statement to you shortly,

Best Regards,

Jo
Looking forward to that statement!

Also I forgot to mention before but my last Bluefin map came with a DTC checker.

Cracking service from them really - very impressive - intrigued to hear what they are going to communicate...

Thats interesting.. To be honest, the only reason I am considering it is exactly the fact that they do seem to care about their reputation and also customer care. I dont think any of the other tuners would do what they are doing ...and that works for me!...

Been reading up on this thread this evening, and noticed that someone was asking for a direct comparison of RR results between standard and Bluefin. It's a bit rough and ready, because I did it quickly and from the on screen images further up the thread, but here's a direct comparison of phantom's standard S£ and Iggu's Bluefin mapped car (the original one, not his latest ;) ) . It certainly shows that the Bluefin smoothes out the power delivery, if not increasing the top end noticeably...

If people are interested, I can try to do a more comprehensive job, perhaps using the plots from the Prosport RR day.

Highwayman - that is REALLY useful!
Are you able to add more of the rolling road profiles from the prosport day on the same chart in different colours to give a full comparison?????
I won't even ask how you did that....

Have to say another big thumbs up for Superchips from me. I was pleased with the standard map, but Iggu kindly gave me his details and I contacted S/C asking to try his version of the map. I e-mailed them at 9pm at night and got a text before 9am the next morning saying it was available for download. The revised map felt keener throughout the rev range and the service from S/C has been great - would thoroughly recommend them.
:applaus:

I'm pretty sure you can stretch that ASN discount to 15% if you have difficulty ask to speak to jamie Tuirvey as he is the technical director so will have the authority to organise it - a top bloke and a real enthusiast.

If the graphs are published on the thread so that I can read them, then yes, I can do a multiple line graph ;) . We used to do this on the Fiat Coupe forum to compare different turbos/boost levels and remaps, and always found it interesting.

I'll have a look at the Prosport thread this evening and see what I can do. I'll also see if I can make it a bit clearer and smoother, as I did that one quickly last night to see what people thought.

Phil

I think the prosport results thread has several charts posted up.

Thanks Phil

Hi All,
So my bluefin handset has arrived. I originally specced the 'staz' map! but reading more aboyut things it seems down to the car which map responds best?.
Should I start off the the std SC remap first?. I probably will run a vag com before and after check?.

It might be worth calling for a chat as Iggu did. I can't recommend my map enough, but even the standard map was a vast improvement.

Check this out: its my ORIGINAL map showing before and after with standard Bluefin map. See that torque figure of 333 lb/ft ? That's 5% higher than an RS4 !!!

My new map gives me the same torque but with some changes to the fuel delivery the top end is now higher. Not had it rolling roaded but can tell you that every time it hits over 65mph in 2nd gear and pulls like a ******* in the mid-range.

Didn't your orginal map only deliver 298ib/ft on the Rolling Road day?
You may have already posted - but what changed on this visit?

More torque than an RS4 - it's why I love turbocharged motors :o.k:

There is an article on Rolling Roads in this month's evo magazine (issue 122 page 179). Without digging up the same old turnips all over again it pretty much says that they can throw up all sorts of figures and shouldn't be taken at all seriously. This is not to say they aren't GREAT for meeting up with fellow ASN members and stirring up a right royal load of **** for us to argue and debate over for months afterwards !! I cannot wait for the Southern RR results for that very reason ! Wish I could make it but we are on hols that weekend Jamie.
