A cry for HELP please good people

Hello to all and would like to say what a cracking forum you have here


I have a small problem with an Audi S3 2000 on a Y plate with an AMK engine code that has spat a drive shaft and for the love of god cant get another one.

OFF SIDE FRONT is different to the near side front in the way that it does not have the normal NUT holding the shaft into the drive spline on the hub and has a 17mm inverted bolt
i have been to AUDI with the chassis number and after ordering the shaft for that chassis number it is the wrong one, am i missing something here ?

all i have of the part number off the old shaft is is the LAST 7 digits and they are [FONT=&quot]407 311 E
Does anyone else have this sort of set-up on there S3 as in the passenger side has a standard drive shaft nut and a bolt on the drivers side?
if any of you fine people could help the cause at this moment would be helpful as it would seem AUDI just don´t give a crap

Not sure but I know my drivers side is a bolt and thats on a 2002 Bam engined car. I got a new cv joint off audi and that came the same with a bolt.

Is it the full drive shaft you need or just the cv joint ????

I need the FULL shaft as both are toast
do you know what part number the outer would be please and i could try and trace it from there?

This is what AUDI told me
what it is we bought a complete front end from a catB and i transplanted it into a 99 1.4 so it sort of changes things lol
we don´t have any history from the S3 and the only thing i know for sure is that on that very same side it had a new wishbone and shock at some point as it looks newer than the off side.

and we then though someone had changed the hub also at some tome but we cant be sure

That is an awesome bit of info,
i really can´t understand WHY it has different ones on the front as at some point the hub must have been changed at some point to get the drive shaft to fit.

i cant find the part number for a shaft , on etka it shows 3 shafts one of which is the one they ordered with a 1J0 part number and had just AMK as the engine code but there are another 2 that have an 8N0 part number but also fits AMK,BAM,AUL so would i be right in thinking it is either of the other 2?

They should all fit as far as I know. 1J0 is the older stuff like fitted to the early TT before they did the recal to dial in a little more understeer into the chassis (I don't think these were ever fitted to the S3 but appears on the parts list).
8N0 is the later stuff, so just go for that.

Maybe you have TT parts fitted as they are interchangeble.

to be honest i think it did, on the passenger side,
i also have a V6 Golf and have the very same wishbones fitted and one has this bit sticking out,

i don't mean to sound ummmm THICK but what does it mean if it has this fitted lol

I've been looking for a set of those wishbones for a while. They are from the early TTs. Originally those protrusions were drilled, tapped and used to mount the front anti-roll bars which hooped over the driveshafts like on older A3s. They also have tighter front rubber bushes.

When a few people lost the back ends of their TT's Audi recalled them and fitted a redesigned package including a rear spoiler, new style anti-roll bar that mounts higher up and runs under the driveshafts and larger softer bushes at the wishbones to induce more understeer. This is what S3s have fitted too.

I need a set of the old skool wishbones for my car as I have the old type anti-roll bar. Like hens teeth.

Just to let you know you don't want to have different types of wishbone on each side. This would give unstable handling.

Well i have a mk4 golf that i converted from a 1.6 to a V6 ans also LCR front brembo brakes, after my old wishbones were toast i decided to fit the TT wishbones.
all new parts and i think i have the part number for the ones with the stubs on.

the car has 23mm FRONT ARB from an R32 and a neuspeed 25mm rear, running KONI damper adjustable and up rated EIBACH springs so gain the extra weight i needed and a set of TOYO R888´s. a fiend from me who has a 4MOTION said it was just as good in the bends if not better, and i am well happy with how it handles.

i think we have the drive shaft sorted and have left all the above info with the dealer to see if they pull there finger out this time.
The car is not mine and was just converted by me a few weeks ago so a few things like bushes and such needed doing but he did not have it to hand at the time LOL
