Hi all,

Im looking at having a Milltek exhaust fitted at the Regal RR day but there are a few questions i have first, hopefully someone can help me out.

I really like the deep rumble/burble that the standard S3 exhaust makes at around 2-3k revs (if anyone knows what im on about) but i dont think it sounds aggressive enough higher up the revs. My question is does the Milltek get rid of that low down noise and does it sound that much better than standard?

The other thing i wanted to know is if i do go for it, what are people having, resonated or non-resonated?

Thanks

Rich

Thanks for the reply, do you think it is a vast improvement on the standard exhaust note?

I think it is a vast improvement over the standard exhaust note, i wasn't particularly impressed with it as standard.

Are you thinking full turboback or just catback? I think having the Milltek downpipe as part of the turboback gives it a deeper note

Im thinking of having the downpipe as well so hopefully that will give me what im looking for. Ive tried listening to the sound in videos but none of the ones ive watched have sounded great ive got to say.

There will be a few cars with the resonated Milltek turboback at the Regal RR day, mine included. Have a listen there before deciding

unfortunetly it's never going to sound like an RS4

Do some of you know if full miltek exhaust for S3 will fit to S3 sportback?

I know what you mean mate.

Just not quite deep enough! I procured a cat back pipe off Jonny C and now its awesome. The car sounds so meaty.

I've not heard the Miltek one in real life but i'm sure it will be great!

I contacted Milltek about this last week, and they said that although the standard A3 and A3 Sportback have the same exhaust, they were not sure if the S3 would?? I'm sure it won't be long before they have a donar car - I've offered mine, if I get one, but I won't be getting it till March

Cat back pipe? Including new box? What tailpipe does it have and how much?

I'm starting to think my exhaust isn't loud enough. I don't want one of these I can hear for half a mile away in the middle of the night, just something that burbles and pops a bit.

Yeah gargling and poping more sounds good to me .. Like the astra vxr remux exhuast

Ive not been able to decide on an exhaust system for months as there all to quite 2 me

Me and a couple of friend shooted a video last week of our S3s: one with a Milltek downpipe+Bastuck catback, one with a resonated Milltek turbo back and mine with a non resonated Milletk turbo back. The video is still on editing, when it'll be ready I let you know.

Looking forward to it!

Why did you go for a mixture? Do Bastuck not do a full system?

That is a friend of mine...
He found a 2nd hand Milltek downpipe for cheap and went for it.

He completed the system with a Bastuck catback because he wanted a twin double tailpipe style (the same style as the new S6).
He had to cut the rear valance and the look is not so great 'cause the rear valance is sort of asymmetric and cutting it to accomodate the left side pipes accented it. He is now looking to replace the grey part with a custom-made carbon fiber extractor, it seem so be a long term thing though...

I see, sorry my mistake.

I looked at the Bastuck site and they didn't actually list anything rom the cat forwards for the S3.

Does anyone sell a plastic rear valance? I am thinking that if I get an exhaust system I'd like to get twin doubles too.

I'm sure it's just a matter of time before it's on sale.

I was skeptical at first, but when I saw it I had to admit that twin doubles give a nice look to the car.

This said, I would wait for someone else to release a twin double 'cause the Bastuck has (even though it is really well done with good materials) has the barrel that is too low and is visible below the rear valance.
My 2 cents...

A picture to better explain what I mean...

Yeah seen. I wouldn't want that.

Unless the performance gains were eye popping I wouldn't contemplate a mod that made my car look worse than it did when it came out of the factory. And that looks a lot worse than standard....

The thing that mainly increases performances is the downpipe with the relocation of the cat. The rest of the exhaust can, because of counte-pressures and bends, affect where the hp are developed (hi-revs or lo-revs) and the diameter of it decides whether you have more or less low-end torque.

And that looks a lot worse than standard....
On top of that, add that the sound isn't really that special...

To sum this all up I can say that, In my opinion, having heard several S3 exhausts (Supersprint, Bastuck and three different custom made), the top scorer is Milltek.

Now I'm VERY glad to hear you say that Macs as I'm going for a Milltek this week ! I'm thinking of just the downpipe and Hi-Flow cat as I like the OEM exhaust tips. This would still give me the performance gains right ?

Thanks to everyone for their feedback. It seems like its going to be Milltek then. Now all i need to do is decide whether to go for the resonated or non-resonated. I want it to sound meaty but i dont know if the non-resonated will be too loud.

You will surely have relevant benefits from the downpipe. Maintaining the OEM catback will be a bit restrictive because of the minor diameter of the pipe. If the car has no other modifications it should be ok, if you have other modifications on the car a complete exhaust will grant a better gas flow.

The big difference between the resonated and the non-resonated is when the wastegate opens, and that happens when you are hammering. If you drive around in a tranquil way it isn't loud, when you push it and the spool builds up, the wastegate opens and part of the exhaust gasses do not pass through the turbo (which acts like a sort of a silencer) but go straight in the exhaust piping, now THAT is some serious sound...

I dont know how well this is going to work but ive found an exhaust that i really like the sound of on YouTube so im going to try and add them in here. If it doesnt work you will just get the links but i would like peoples opinions. The main problem is i havent go a clue who makes it.

That one is from www.artevo.de
The guy who went for the Bastuck catback was looking at it too. I do not remember why he finally choose the Bastuck, price made the difference if I am not mistaken...
I checked on their website, the cat-back RS4 style exhaust is 1290 euros.
