Okay, to get straight to the point I have remapped her usinga vspireserial program from a local rally tuner.Never been rolling roaded so not sure what shes sitting at.I am looking for that wee bit extra now as I had a race with a friend of mine,he was in a v6 renaultsport clio and we were neck and neck to 145mph.So I reckon any other engine mod to get that we bit more would beat him.........sugesstions please with aprox prices

Tell us more about your TDI... which year, version, current mods! Like that we could help a bit more. I am assuming it is the 140. If so I am a bit surprised with the outcome of racing with the V6 Clio...

Pedro

is it a Mk1 or Mk2 V6 Clio... either way your car is very good or your friend did not give it beans...

Pedro

2005 TDI 140bhp remapped to 180ish maybe......we started racing from 60mph and with my torque i got 3 car lengths ahead and that was us to 145mph, no gaining from him or me getting away. I wish I had a video now. But they are good off the line but even my friend said they are not good top end, thats where he looses out against alot of cars

Impressive john :p

AMD do a turbo upgrade to 220bhp I think - I did have the link but in my opinion not worth it

You can get a full miltek exhaust including downpipe - I am considering the down pipe in the near future

I wouldnt take the car to its power limits as you will have to up grade the clutch and possibly the flywheel :(

Thanks andrew.....down the m2 it was.....

Will I get the whooooosh sound when changing gear tho....I hate that!

If you get the exhaust then yes - you will not hear it unless you are going slow and quickly come off boost!

Oh - I will tell your gf she looks beautiful :p

It all comes down to how much power you want and how much money you are willing to spend.
To get over 200 bhp you need a hybrid turbo, cost £1000-£2000 depending on final power out put wanted 220bhp-300bhp.
Helix clutch and pressure plate fitted about £700-£800 good for 370+ lb torque or for about £1000 you can get a SPEC or South brent clutch with SMF good for 590lb torque.
CDA airfilter £200
Exhaust £200-£600
Propane injection for unlimited fueling £1500
etc etc ....

WOW.....just read your link also. That must be an insane tdi to drive,,,you any average 0-60 times.....top speed etc....would an air filter and exhaust give much more......which would be the best to go for if buying air filter and exhaust system.

Thanks for replies guys:beerchug:

devonmikeyboy - that is an impressive sig you have there!

I might be looking into upgrading my clutch - what do you recommend? would the flywheel have to be upgraded too??

my car has 175bhp and 300 lb/ft by the way and i am looking into getting a miltek down pipe to go along with my miltek exhaust

As above - just read Mikeyboys link :hubbahubba:
bet you shock a few who 'try it on' with you mate ;)

A panel filter ( Green is popular but they are much the same really ) will give you slightly better throttle responce but no actual extra BHP as the stock paper filter plus induction system is very good. A panel filter does pay for itself in the long run though as it is washable so can be reused unlike the paper filter. Only trouble is people tend to think more is better when putting oil on the filter which then blows back onto the MAF quickly killing it but that`s another story. Removing the CAT will do very little on a stock or remapped car unless your driving an old car with a blocked CAT. Milltek make a nice off the shelf system or if you know a good custom exhaust maker they should be able to quickly knock a system up that will flow just as well. The backbox is the restrictive part so as long as you get a free flow version fitted you cannot go wrong or you could just remove the backbox altogether if you want. Changing the exhaust might add 5-10 bhp.

Stay with the stock DMF and just get an uprated clutch from Sachs or Helix.Link to Sachs clutches HERE The Milltek down pipe is nice but your paying for the name.Unless you intend to go hybrid turbo there is no real point. If your doing it to remove the CAT any half *** garage should be able to remove the CAT and wield in a piece of pipe for £30ish.

My car goes well but i don`t race as i have nothing to prove plus i know it`s not the fastest thing on four wheels especially as i have a good friend with a 600bhp Evo 9 with a 2.3 stroker kit now that is fast.

Thanks mate - I have always been in two minds about the downpipe

thanks for the link, I will look into the clutches!

Thanks for the kind compliments about my car people. The Audi driver write up was done back in 2006 and printed in Feb 2007, had a lot more work done to it since then.

You've got the right car to handle all that power - it has a quattro drivetrain. Regarding the original post, I think once you're much over 200bhp and 300lb/ft, you'll be limited by FWD in terms of using all the power, and further power and torque gains won't be reflected in the car's overall performance. Either you'll struggle for traction or the clutch will start slipping eventually - the latter happened to a mate of mine who had a REVO'd Leon Cupra TDI. In the end he got so fed up of it he reverted to the standard map.

you dont need a lot of suspension changes for a FWD car to handle lots of torque and power - and i would imagine that most users going beyond the simple remap might consider suspension upgrades and hopefully some big front brakes as well.

the real problem is wet traction that can make it tricky but fun - but fast in slower out gives you the opportunity to avoid understeer or get a bit of oversteer without losing too much speed and avoiding losing traction out of roundabouts.

for the a3 fwd, uprated ARBs and changing some geometry can help enormously - reduce the rear negative camber to -0.75 to -1.0, add as much front negative camber as you can and max out the castor at the front to 8deg or more. zero toe at the back and factory toe in at the front help stability without nasty lift off surprises.

the neuspeed ARBs are fantastic, although the r32 mk5 front arb it cheap and big enough at just under 24mm for about £85 - combine this with a rear neuspeed 25mm bar for max understeer reduction. - not forgetting good sticky tyres such as PS2s or similar.

lowering the car to the same level as an s3 ish (say eibach 30mm springs) gives it about -0.75deg negative camber along with a better ride quality, or morego lengthened bottom arms (£500!) give about -1.75 deg, or k-mac adjustable top mounts for £200 gives me -1.75 front camber and about 8.5deg castor with no torque steer and fantastic traction.

currently running about 230-240hp and 260lb/ft - i wouldnt go back to standard

Yo lad!

Got a price for a stock DMF from Audi...£250 which I thought wasn't that bad

do you know what make it is or if there is better out there for less?

I will not get Audi to fit it as it takes 5.5hours which equals £550

Therefore £800 to supply and fit a DMF and I am planning to get a sachs clutch too

Is there a reason you want to fit a new DMF? Does the one you have fitted at the moment vibrate or has the clutch been slipping a lot? The DMF will be made by either Sachs or LUK to the same spec and standards so both the same. No other stronger or better DMF`s are made. Any garage that can fit a standard clutch ( which is a basic mechanics job ) should be able to fit an uprated item as the parts are designed and fitted the same as the stock clutch items just use uprated parts. Fitting a clutch/DMF should be about £200-£300 depending where you live in England really. It would hurt to have the stock DMF from the Audi dealer around when you have the uprated clutch fitted just in case your one turns out to have a badly burned face or a lot of play on the iternal springs. If your DMF is OK just take back the new DMF and get a refund.

My car judders like an epileptic - its terrible! I have been to audi before about it as I was told there was a recall on the earlier models regarding the DMF and they said there were no outstanding recalls on my car so I guess mine has just decided to bite the dust now.

My car is on 75k miles and the clutch is slipping slightly due to the remap I presume but it isnt bad either - it only slips if I am in a high gear at low rpm and I accelerate quite hard eg 6th gear at 40mph.

How much is a sachs clutch for a 2.0tdi? I have 175bhp and around 305lb/ft

basically I find the car a nuissance to drive in traffic and the shuddering makes me want to go to the toilet lol!!

I am just in a phase at the minute where I want to replace every part in the car which is missing or damaged in some way!

If you phone AwesomeGTI or PM AwesomeSarah who works ( i use the word work very loosely more like just turns up ) at Awesome and they/she should be able to give you a very good price for a clutch and DMF.

CDA airfilter £200
Exhaust £200-£600
Propane injection for unlimited fueling £1500
etc etc ....

im looking at replacing my air filter in the next week or two to compliment the exhuast and remap, what kind of gains would i see from the CDA filter? would it be much better than just upgrading to a high flow panel filter? also does anyone have any links on where i can purchase these?

I'm also looking at air filters.

I'm stuck between a standard paper and a pipercross panel filter, any thoughts?

Unless your intending going hybrid turbo anything more then an uprated pannel filter is over kill.

Is there ant benefit from fitting the panel filter over a stock paper filter?
I'm re-mapping it to about 175bhp.

I know on my Saab the stock paper filter was good for about 280bhp.

People claim the engine is more responsive with a pannel filter plus you can clean a pannel filter which saves money on the long run unless you over oil the pannel filter and kill your MAF which is known to happen. A pannel filter is only £30-40 so i guess it doesn`t hurt to try if you want as they are easy to resale but don`t expect much when you fit it.
