Low oil warning light came on yesterday.Done 10k miles in 7 months. Is that normal consumption or shouldI be worried?

Puchased some Castrol 5w30 long life stuff to top up, which is what is in there from factory think

Have you never checked the oil in 10k miles?
Or has it suddenly used a lot between the last time you checked and now?
Mine used to go through a litre every 2000 miles (ish).
Audi considered that normal.
I, and most other people I spoke to about it, considered it ludicrous.
My car would have had the warning light on about 4-5 times in 10k miles.
So I would say, at a stab, you're quite a lucky owner (if a tad negligent):)

Interesting Rich.
Oil in my car was perfectly fine... Done about 13k when first service was due and oil was surprisingly still the same amount... just abit dark!
I had been told when i first got the car just to keep checking the oil every now and then... but mine was fine right up till the first service.

Mine hasn't used a drop in 11months / 7k miles.

People on here had problems with Diesels using lots of oil but not heard of a petrol doing the same.

4500 miles and banged ~.3 L in last weekend - just into the "you may top up" bit of the dipstick below the bobble
Touran with the same motor uses more though (even at nudging 40k): appears to be luck of the draw!!

Yeah odd how some use oil and some dont. Done 10k now and hasnt dropped at all...

Mine has used around 5 litres in the past 10000 miles.

Mine did not require a drop in 17k miles or 18 months, checked it every month too!

My S3 barely touched a drop in 15,000 miles!
Strange there are such big variances

The engines are all equipped with VBQ.
Variable build quality.:)

Seriously, there's no pattern to it, and certainly nothing to suggest drivers are the cause of it (running in routine etc.)
So drivers shouldn't feel bad about themselves if they get an oil-user.

JamS3: Front 15mm Spacers, Rear 10mm Spacers

Is that the right way round?

(meanwhile, back on topic...)

.

Mitch

Its not!

But thats what I had on as the rears were rubbing all the time so I just swopped the rears with the fronts, it didn't look bad at all really and handled really well with the H + R springs so I left it like that!

My Golf GTI used about 1 litre per 1500miles but my S3 has used about half a litre in 10000miles!!

Seems the 2.0T FSI engine uses a lot more in the 200bhp form..
