i have posted this on the A6 forum as this is an urgent nature i am posting it here as well, my brother has a 1999 A6 and he cannot open the OSR door either from inside or outside if he tries and open the handle from the inside the little knob pops up but still cant open..

i think we would need to take the door card off can this be done with the door closed?

any ideas

cheers

The '99 A6 features deadlocks.

I'll look into it tomorrow, and post my findings on here.

cheers, bear in mind it is only the OSR door, he has also mentioned that at first it was happening intermittently now its permanent

Ras, the common fault on the C5 A6 with comfort pack, is a faulty rear door actuator, or a faulty control module.

The actuator is part of the lock / catch assembly, if it has the Comfort pack.
The door card can be removed with the door shut, without destroying it, but it's not easy.

Just done the same on a B5.5 Passat o/s/r door.
Took about an hour to get the door open, but it worked out.

If you have VAG-COM, you may be able to manually actuate the catch, to get it open.

To determine if the car has the Comfort Pack, I need to know if it has a vacuum central locking pump, or not. If it has the pump, no Comfort Pack fitted, if it doesn't, then it does.

I hope it has a vacuum pump, as it makes things a lot easier.

Get back to me as soon as you know, you'll be able to tell if the car has vacuum lines running through the door grommets, or you can hear the pump running as the driver's door is locked / unlocked.

ill get back to you on that thanks

Mine's just picked up this problem (NSR door) in the last couple of days - no vacuum tubes and the lock knob tries to jump twice each unlock. No warning or previous dodginess that I was aware of. No amount of wiggling, thumping, leaning either way against the lock , holding up the knob (rises with interior handle), holding out interior or exterior handle has given any joy.

Any top tips?

I can probably have a stab at getting the door card off but looks like it might get messy :( I've never met a car so well clipped and screwed together as this one! Still, a new door card is probably cheaper than getting the dealer to sort it...

Update: as I've posted, it decided to unlock this morning for the first time in a week or so... I was already running late for work, so just took the 2 screws out and lifted the door card loose quickly then left it there and shut the door again to get going. Anything I should be particularly lubing or replacing at this point? Or just spray lube everywhere, leave the screws out for now and cross fingers? TIA
