Lamin-X as well as facelift taillights fitted to S3

Arrived home from work today and had a note from the postman to say that I had three packages that were unable to be delivered today, so I popped down into the village to the post office to pick them up. Couldn't figure out what three things I'd ordered!

Anyway one of the packages was my lamix-x kit. Comes well packaged and all the bits were intact.

I had ordered the vinyl protector and the spray bottle too. I assumed the spray bottle was some sort of applicator spray in a bottle, but it turns out to be just a bottle with a nozzle and spray gun that you mix up your own liquid in. The lamin-x film itself comes in a sealed plastic bag along with the fitting notes and a plastic squeegy thingy.

What I can't figure out is that the bits and pieces came to 60 dollars and I was charged $8.95 for shipping so the total charged to my card was just under 70 dollars. I accidentally added an extra set of everything to my cart before ordering and it was showing the shipping at $9.95 (or an extra dollar for the two batches). The box has a shipping charge of $27 where the stamp goes. The customs docket also lists $27 as the shipping charge so it is not a misprint.

How can they make a profit on the kit when they are losing nearly 20 dollars on the shipping. I doubt there'll be someone getting a bonus at the end of this quarter - more like their shipping people will be given their P45s when they realise they are going to lose about 200 dollars on shipping when all the members of this forum who placed orders get their deliveries.

Not going to fit the film just yet. I'm picking up my S3 tomorrow night for the 5 day test drive so I'll have to wait and see what I decide to do about that before fitting anything. No point in installing the kit onto my current car if I'm going to be changing it.

Rabbit,
what did you use to fit the film? Did you just spray water on the headlights or did you mix up a concoction of something or other for it?

Any photos of your lights now that the water has dried off the lenses?

What was this guy thinking?

He might as well not have bothered for all the good it has done him!

Hey Marc! Glad that your goodies arrived on time. Regarding the shipping costs, I'd have to agree with you. My parcel was also stamped with $27 shipping and that had me confused too...looks like they are definitely losing money and don't have a cooking clue....yet.

Regarding the fitment, we just mixed up a soapy solution, basically water and some dishwash soap and sprayed them onto the headlights. Its all simple from there.

I will take some pics for you mate, the headlight has cleared up completely and looks great! You'd never notice that its actually film on the headlight :)

How come this fella doesn't need any soapy solution ? Different lamin-x ?

Its simple when you have the actual headlight in your hand while fitting it...when its on the car, it makes it a tad bit difficult. I'm busy uploading the LaminX fitment guidelines and will post it up shortly.

Brilliant. Thanks mate. My lamin-x should be here any day now - along with my Forge CAI. You think Mark is costing YOU a fortune in mods: YOU'RE costing ME a fortune !!

Awesome stuff mate!

LOL! This forum together with Marc is going to make my wife tell me to move into my car and to take my PC with me :)

I followed the Lamin-X install procedure with a hairdryer to help out (weather isnt the best here in Joburg for this job now). Hairdryer really helps though if you heat up the film before applying. Makes it easier to stretch and apply and it forms better around curves

Wished I would've used a slightly soapy solution and not just water as the directions stated. The soapy solution would've made it much easier to align and work with when stuck on, so I'd advise you guys to do that.

Moisture bubbles are a pain initially. Part cleared up in the last few days but still a lot there. Not had a chance during the week to get some sun. Heard that driving with your lights on and if you can manage using your brights a few minutes a day (without blinding anyone of course) then that should help speed up the process. Think I'll try that and hopefully get some sun this weekend to clear it up. Will take pics when it does

Shaun, you should edit the FAQ to include a photo of your car and a brief explanation about what the lamin-x films are with a link to this thread rather than the large scan of the install guide as people reading the FAQ that have not seen this post won't know what it is about.

Not complaining, just think it will be a bit more user friendy that way.

Mine arrived this morning, ill post some pics up once I get round to fitting it. Still got the OEM Xenons in the shed waiting to be fitted, when I get time that is.
Not sure if to fit the Lamin-X to the lights then fit to the car or run with the Xenons for a bit then fit the Lamin-X

can someone tint my front lights and fogs please? what ever pic is best

thanks
