What happens when you fit a Forge intake to a S3?

I didn't want to hijack the other thread I posted this info in so I decided to start another. I'm not sure if thewusman ever posted up his results on this forum before so I've decided to do it to show you guys what an improvement a CAI will make on a S3.

I have had the pleasure of having both the Oettinger Ram air (carbonio) as well as the Forge CAI fitted to my car. Honestly having had the experience, the Carbonio is a waste of money and in no way improves power..nothing. If its power you want, the Forge CAI or any other proper CAI is your answer...

Have a look at this dynograph, car in question is thewusmans. Look at the figures, before and after Forge CAI...the figure is WHEEL power. Mods, REVO stage1 and Forge CAI.

Thats an improvement of 12.6kw ATW and 21nm of Torque!!!

Proof enough that a proper CAI fitted to a S3 will unleash some serious ponies!

You know from my PM I'm already smitten Rabbit222 - do you know why their website gives a warning about wet weather conditions making it unsuitable ? Is it because the cone sits so low down in the engine bay ? You're ok in South Africa obviously but Manchester in England is as wet as wet can be !! This is the only thing stopping me ordering one NOW.

For fear of Hyrolock I would assume. If thats the case, hold on for the EVOMS CAI that should be released sometime soon for the S3. The cone sits higher up in the engine bay and should be safe for your conditions

If you get into the situation where there is enough water to cause hydrolock on your filter, you have a few more important things to worry about than your car.

What's the deal with the filter that comes with the Forge, is it re-usable, how do you clean it etc?

I'm surprised that you say that about the Carbonio, which is the same as or similar to the carbonspeed. APS swear by it, and have used it on plenty of cars with good results = +5bhp is what Ed told me, and 15ftlb's of torque or so

I have had both on my car and believe me when I say there was absolutely no gain in performance with the carbonio...it may have improved throttle response but thats about it. There is a reason that I posted up the dynograph for guys to see what sort of gains can be had with the Forge CAI. These are not just figures though, you feel a huge difference in power with the Forge CAI and no I don't work for Forge The only way to really know is to try it out for yourself...thank me later.

Have you got a before and after graph for the carbonio? Only I just don't believe there ar no gains to be had, APS are a very trusted tuning outfit, and certainly know their stuff, and wouldn't recommend something unless they had tried and tested it themselves. I am not denying that the forge one may be more beneficial, but it would be good to have a comparitive graph.

For me I can't be sure what gains were had as I fitted it at the same time as the Milltek, but I also fitted one to a mates Oettinger mapped ED30, and that certainly made a difference in throttle response, and seemed to make the car keener to accelerate

Oli - when we get this rolling road session sorted I'm going to bring my standard filter and air intake with me and see about swapping it over to try and measure some true gains for the carbonio. I'll be honest, I've always thought it's had no more effect than reponse, can't say i've noticed anything more significant than that.
Be good to put all the mods to the test though.

Good idea, but if it makes it respond better, then surely thats a good thing. I suppose in hindsight, I should have fitted them seperately, to see if I could notice any gains, through driving it. I think we will deinately see them on the rollers - Can't wait to find out
