Tyres for 07 Sportback 225x40x18s

Just past 12500 miles on my 170TDi Sportback......front tyres are well worn and very dodgy!! I'd like to replace with the same that came from Audi, the Continental Sport Contact2 tyres but they are costing £125 each!! Think Yokos are about £70 each....

Is it wise to go for a different tyre or best to pay the extra and stick to the Continentals????

Or, any other suggestions??

I always go for Goodyear F1's, Michelin Pilot Sports, or Pirelli P-Zero's, and as long as you have the same tyre type / amount of tread on each axle, it doesn't matter if you still have the original Conti's on the back.

I'd aim to pay no more than £110 fitted for 225/40/18's.

Thanks.....I was thinking around the same figure....around £100 for the tyre plus fitting....

Found these on black circles.....are these the P-Zeros you were recommending?...

Called Audi dealer....for a laugh!...£156 per tyre, fitted! for the Sport Contacts!!! Bargain!!...oh, and that was not including VAT!!!

Thank to Flux, I've made a shortlist........anyone recommend any of these or have an opinion on any of them? Need these urgently so would appreciate all the advice I can get......Ta!

Apparently the Dunlops and Bridgestones are fairly quiet. Anyone else find the Continentals very noisy in 18" size??

At those prices you quoted, I'd go for Goodyear F1, I've got those all round at the moment in 225/40/18. Nice tread pattern as well

Tried Continentals, F1's and Dunlop Sportmaxxes on my S-line sportback.
I thought the Dunlops were the best combination of grip/price/noise.

Can't recommend www.camskill.co.uk any more (see here for your tyre size: http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m4b0s134p0 ), they'll **** on black circles for price, although you'll have to take the tyres to a local garage for balancing and fitting. My local garage does that for £5 a wheel so you can save a good chunk!

I'm in the same boat as you, looking for new tyres within the next few weeks and have been eyeing up:

Goodyear F1 GSD3s
TOYO T1R PROXES (had these on 2 different cars and rated them quite highly!)
FALKEN FK 452 - seen some pretty good ratings for these tyres, and supposed to be as grippy as the other two above, but they're about £30 cheaper!

Those are my top but will probably decide in a fortnight or so, hope this helps either way! :thumbsup:

Don't get P-Zero Rossos they are dire in the wet and not much better in the dry. I removed them from our sportback at 4k miles they were that crap compared to F1 GSD3s I had on my T4(and they were a smaller size) and fitted some to the sportback. One side not is that you now wont get GSD3s in over 17" wheels they have been replaced by the F1 assymetrics which are supposed to be even better.

I need to get these tyres fitted today and spoke to a tyre specialist I know well who I couldn;t get the other day. he immediately ruled out the Bridgestones but recommended Dunlop or the Goodyear F1s. He swears by Dunlop SP 9000s so I looked on Black Circles and there were 356 reviews and consistently gave 4out5 for all aspects of the tyre. Seems like a safe bet.

Although, I was amazed at this comment.......

How the hell do he manage to get 50k from one set of tyres!!!!!!!!!! I'll go through 4 sets on the front in that distance!!!!!!!

I'm up to 12k and my front tyres are not too bad but can see within the next couple of thousand I will probably be replacing them. Mine are Michelin Exalto? I think thats what they are called, will have to check.

Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics every time for me. I am trying to kill my Contis so I can swap them for the F1s (thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!).
