Leaving Audi behind...

That's a 123D, for 'illustration purposes only'.
I don't actually like the looks of the coupe at all.
It's just such a physically small looking car.

Are there ANY photos of this car from the back knocking around ? Or is there not a camera lens invented that's up to that level of ugliness ?

Not the best photo, it's been turned around now, so it's too close to the building.

One thing I would add about BMW black.
If mine is anything to go by (Black Sapphire metallic), it is incredibly easily marked by bird crap.
I'm talking minutes, and you've a very hard to remove matt mark on the paint.
Maybe you were looking at a different black though.
I don't know what 'type' of black my colleague's 123D is.

From the look of that lorry in front its a very blocked in BMW .... your colleague's not hoping for a quick Friday getaway ?

Actually looks Ok in that colour to be honest. The only ones I've seen so far are white and red: looks terrible in those colours.

Nah, safe enough.
He likes to be the first in and the last out.
You know the type.

Sad b*stard.:tocktock:

Ps, you will all also note the blue sportback in the background.
Therefore making my posts instantly relevant.

Not the first `saggy moose` to scrub up ok with carefully selected cosmetics.

You cant polish a **** IMO.

The 3 series is the pick of the BMW range for me.
Its what BMW have done best for years.
Best sales, best resale, best looking, (relatively speaking:))
Even then, when your spending that sort of money you would want something a bit more special that tastfully stands out..
ALPINA 335 ?

That for me ( with all the money thrown at it ) is stunning , give it the 135i engaine and it'll be some drive to match the looks IMHO.

Hopefully everyone will think there ugly and prices will sink like a stone.....and i'll collect.:whistle2:

Indeed, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
Its a `6 pinter` IMO:)

A serious performance bargain in the making?

Thats it , if it looked like that out of the factory with a decent interior spec for 34k i'd find the money ( some how ) , but it doesn't, i'm the first to admit the Std car is " not nice " by the time you've put the kit on it your in used RS4/M3 monies.

...and as it doesn't come as standard, the cost of the additional options doesn't get factored into residual prices generally, so you get stung for them come re-sale.

Just cant see how it will be seen as anything more than a `small` 3 series coupe.
The 3 series coupe has huge following and established identity, rightly so.
Being a good car sometimes isnt enough.

Saw a convertible 118i today (08 plate). That genuinely looked like a creation of Dr Frankenstein.

I saw an A3 cab today (roof down) it looked awful.

Maybe Audi and BMW are having a competition.............

I must say my A3 is the same, Audi usually attempt to polish a few out with each service, the first time I asked them about it they said I'd left it too long before wiping off, I explained it was friggin difficult to fly back from vegas to clean my car every other day........

Apparently its euro spec water based paint (was told this by Audi so not totally sure) but the wifes Toyota could survive a small explosion and show now sign of marks..... (wish I could say the same for the interior though)

The 1 series posted in this thread and the one on the link are both ugly. Looks wise I cant see any attraction at all

Don't forget, the 3 series is being facelifted for September. LED lights, new [245BHP] diesel, bigger LCD screen, 7 speed dual clutch option, etc, etc, etc...!

Should have a go in a 335D this w/e hopefully. Had enough of Audis and their build quality/problems!!!

^^^
Bear in mind the new 3 series saloon will look like this: This is the range topping 335i as well

The facelift only applies to the Saloon version as the coupe already has LED rear lights etc and in fact although similar in appearance it shares very few parts with the saloon version. The 335D is not due to be updated as stil a fairly new engine, but the single turbo 3.0D (as you stated) is about to be tweaked to produce additional power/lower emmissions.

Should be picking mine up this weekend, I'll miss my raspy little TT but still cant wait to get the coupe.

Well done, you've managed to find a photo of one in a godawful colour, with godawful little wheels.
Now go find one in a decent colour, with decent wheels, and see if you still get the "Yeeeuch" reaction you're so clearly looking for.:icon_thumright:
I wonder if I could retrofit those LED back lights to my D3...

I'm sure they'll do an M-Sport version, which will be much better (diff front bumper, better wheels etc). I don't like the look of the current 335i SE, but I do like the M-Sport version.

Strange thing is the 335 M Sport Coupe is not that amazing to look at either but the drive and performance is what swung it for me.

Woder if I can make time to get it friday ?!? :)

A bit more information has filtered through on the facelift, most notably that the 330d will have 245bhp, 383 lb/ft and 153g CO2, plus the 320d, 325i, 330i, 330d and 335i will all be available with the xDrive 4wd system. Will be interested to see whether we get the 4wd option in the UK.

Seriously?? I have often wondered if BMW have been beavering away perfecting their 4WD system before fitting it to the 3/5/7 series.
Not sure i'd be at all interested though, they'd have to boost the bhp to compensate surely? The beauty of performance BMW's is the front engined rear wheel drive configuration. Obviously they want a bigger piece of Audi's market.

Anyway i've only just caught onto this thread because i've been offline....
My next car (in the next couple of months) will also be either a 335d or 335i coupe. I have test driven both and for very different reasons i find it hard to put daylight between the two. 335d has superb performance and torque figures while retaining an impressive mpg whereas the 335i is just an incredible engine in every respect. I'm not a high-miler so i recon it'll be the 335i just for driving pleasure (i'll make sure i drive like a granny on the commute to and from work then go for some proper drives at the weekend).

Colour wise i want the M-Sport coupe in Space Grey with red leather but it appears this is an M3 only colour unless specified as an option (£1500-ish??). Black is just too high maintenance for me, Graphite is too purple, Lemans Blue is nice but a bit 'mature' Silver is too common and i don't like red cars anyway so.... I am edging towards Alpine White with black leather. I need to see one in the flesh but it looks great on the M-Sport from what i've seen.

Spin.... Make sure you keep us updated on how you like owning the car. Congrats, good choice.

P.S. I don't agree the 3 series coupe is a 'big' car. Stand it next to an A5 and it's actually very nimble and sleek looking. It's smaller than an A4 anyway.

Its the headlights mainly.

The M3 saloon has the Coupe lights and that looks good! Would obviously have brassed Coupe owners off if they had chosen to update to the Coupe lights on the saloon but it would look so much better... just something so bland about the saloon and only thing on the outside I can think of is the headlights.

OK, it's an M3, but you get the drift...

Obviously these are the only pictures available daft lad, and seeing as though BMW would want to give the best impression possible I don't know why they've picked such a mundane colour and 17" alloys.

Maybe , but it's still alot bigger than the S3/A3/TT which we drive at the moment , so it's a " big car "

p

Thanks for the photos Flux. There are quite a few photos i've seen of a 335d in white online and i like it.
I've looked into some Hartge carbon mirror covers (£700....On Ebay!! :wtf:) which i think would look awesome on a white car, MAYBE with anthracite rims but i don't want to go too far and ruin the appearance of what is quite a classy motor.

There's always a chance i'll chicken out and go black anyway lol

I agree with the A3/S3 but the TT is quite an eyeful in white.

Are they really LEDs on a coupé?

BMW have had 4 wheel drive 3 series for years; just never been available in the UK.

Oh, BMW coupé is only 350mm longer than an S3 so not that much...

Got the call today, pick the car up on Friday evening, should wait until Saturday really but that would be another sleepless night !!!

I will really miss the Audi brand and in particular the FBSW but I'm sure all that torque will be a great distraction :)
