I called in to my Audi dealers today for a chat and they had a new A3 Cabriolet in the showroom without the LED style headlights. I had a closer look and both the outer Main/Dip unit and the inner DRL unit had halogen bulbs. The DRL unit was an H7 but I'm no sure about the Main/Dip unit as it was behind a large shield. These will be the standard headlights fitted to any Standard, SE or Sport A3 model ordered for the UK. The new style Xenon with LEDs headlight are only currently available as standard on the S3 and as an option on the S-Line. My contact did say the Audi will be offering a Xenon headlight without the LEDs for the Standard, SE and Sport models in the not too distant future but the Xenon with LEDs unit will be restricted to the S3 and S-Line.

I took the opportunity to take a photo...

They'll both be H7s Dave. They look to be the same as the current halogens.

Not sure I like the way they've moved the indicator to the inside of the cluster - although I suppose their logic is that it no longer needs to be on the outside as the mirror repeaters will make them visible anyway.

Curse the day when Audi stopped using projectors in non xenon applications.

I agree, I feel they should always be on the outer edge of a car..

There was a thing in Auto Express about 6 months ago where they did 'hazard awareness' tests on 100 volunteers and in almost every case the reaction times were slower for 'inboard' indicators when compared to 'outboard' indicators.

Seems like a dumb move to me. Just like the pre-facelift Mk5 Golfs/Jettas/Passats, with the brakes/indicators the wrong way round on the back and on any remotely sunny day the indicators can't be seen!

I thought I'd add to this thread. I saw my first A3 Sportback facelift today, with non-LED/Xenon lights. Apologies for the crappy quality, they were taken on my phone.

I don't think it's barf worthy, but maybe a touch on the dull side.

I think those sport wheels are horrendous, however.

On the flipside, the interior had leather/alcantara and looked very nice indeed.

Yeah I agree, but they didn't have a smiley thing for "dull". I think it looks very bland with the horizontal slats on the grille and fogs.

I've seen those wheels on an A3 Cabrio a few months ago and they are very poor - it is almost as if they purposely made them crap looking so you'd spend the extra cash to upgrade to a nice set.

The wheels remind me of fake alloy wheel trims you'd buy from Halfords.

Wheels are awful. Dont know what on earth they were thinking when they designed those.

Rest of it looks ok and not a massive departure from whats already there. I guess it wil be more noticeable with old and new parked alongside each other.

is it me or do the wing mirrors look like they sit really high?!

Nothing worse than sitting at a junction at night, only to find the person you've been waiting to pass is actually turning left, and has been indicating all the ****** time...:keule:

The mirrors themselves are slightly taller, but if you compare to the old model next to it, the mirrors aren't attached any higher.

I agree. It seems that design has taked over from fuction with quite a few car lights these days. The current Golf is one of the worst.

I've had a similar experience on several occasions, usually with a BMW - the only difference being that he wasn't indicating at all!

I didn't think BM's had indicators, I thought they were an option for when you came off you own private motorway and had to use the same roads as plebs

sorry for providing a link from the new headlights into Beemer bashing :(

doesn't take much for that around here, luckily bm owners have a sense of humour ... well I suppose they would have too ......

You looking to get banned Mr Shaq Man?

Your new round here so I'll let it go this time, any more of your nonsense and you'll be getting a the 14 count!

J.

Bit slow. He posted is 'offensive' item a week ago. What was his crime - criticise BMW drivers?

Criticising my moderation David! You'll be getting the 14 count next... Only Joking.

I had only just spotted the post. Chris, Shaq12, is a mate of mine from way back when. Hadn't realised he had signed up on here, I knew he was looking for an A3 as he was asking lots of questions recently.

The post was my way of welcoming him to the forum, I had hoped he would have been the first to spot it as he was logged on at the time of posting!

Facelift is quite minging i think :S

2007/2008 facelift s-line is by far the best looking a3 as standard

do the new facelift lights, with the daytime running lights, fit all the 8P range??
