Hey Guys,

Just in the process of ordering a new MY2009 S3, on a lease deal. I've been searching around for a while, and have just found a great deal.

http://www.gr8newcar.co.uk/ are offering the new S3 Sportback for £319/month + Vat on a 3+23 deal which is simply ridiculous value.

I am ordering a 3-door, with the following options:

Bose
GSM Phone
Folding Mirrors
Rear Parking Sensors
Light and Rain pack

Deal I agreed is on a 6+23 deal and works out at £413/month INCLUDING VAT! Also, it's for 12k / year...

If anyone wants to see a pdf breakdown of all the costs, PM me.

:thrashi:

I don't know what colour to get next. I love my orange to be different. I like the white though. Its whiter than white heheheh

It's a good deal, agreed, but only for a standard car. If you add options, they assume nil residual value, so you end up paying the entire value of any options over the 2 year hire period. Great deal for a std car though, I looked into this a couple of weeks ago with them, and still tempted.

Yeah - but even with the options I listed above and the VAT included, it's still only £100 more a month...

Also, they don't charge you quite all of the options over the term - more like 85%. They have broken it all down in the quote...

For example, £120 for the mirrors on the configurator, and they charge me about £100 for them over the term...

I've shown the quote to quite a few other leasing companies and they say it's not something they could come close to beating.

yeh i have been in communication with this guy too - and he is pretty confident you won't beat those prices - he gets 10% discount on price of car which is passed directly to you via the lease payments - the spec i specced up came out at £441 inc. VAT for my particular list of options (3+23)

Not really you've switched it to a 6+ 23, so you've put an extra £1200 down as initial rental, without this your payments would be an extra £45 a month , and like someone said, the only option that usually makes a difference to the end residual is metallic paint, unless its using a manufacturers own in-house finance system, that allows for options such as sat nav, leather etc:icon_thumright:

If you need a hand with a quote just PM me:)

So about 10k for 2 years motoring?

Yeah. Mine is working out a few quid under £12k for 2 years, so £6k a year.

Sounds expensive, but, I've just owned a 2004 3.2 for a year, I lost £4k in depreciation, spent about £800 retrofitting options, spent £300 on servicing, £310 on tax and £400 on tyres...

So about the same in a year and it wasn't a brand new S3 and it was worth less than half...

Yeah i see the idea of them, just dont know if i woudl like the fact that it is not mine and has a date it goes back....

Do you get your tyres and things in with that price?

No I didn't go for maintenance, it was an extra £19/month or so, but for some reason it pushed up the overmileage penalty from 10p to 20p!

I opted to not have it, because if I don't exceed 20k in the 2 years, i might not even have to service it before returning it! So long as the tyres are still legal, a service won't be due for 2 years/20k will it?

Also, they pay your road tax.

I agree with the not owning it thing though. It means if you get a speeding or a parking ticket they pay it and charge you an admin fee I believe.

I'll just have to be careful!

yep, 14k miles for mine and tyres are going to be have to be changed soon too.
1st service on mine was a sniff under £300 (London dealer, so labour higher).
Tyres are going to be about £130 - 140 per corner.
So in 2 years you'll need to spend about:
Let's say £520 on tyres and £250 on a service = £770
Divided by 23 that would be £33.45 a month, so £19 was a bargain!

Regarding the higher mileage penalty - are you likely to go over?
They only put the price up, because more miles means more tyres and servicing.... it's just a deterent so they don't have to pay for more stuff out of their £19 a month budget!

hmmm...I see, I'm normally too optimistic!

Anyway, it's not enought to put me off. Maybe I'll take the £19/month option. Don't think i'll go over the 12k a year, no.

Cool, just read that whole thread and now I'm even more convinced it's a good deal!

I'm just wondering if it would be possible to buy the S3, keep it 2 years and pay around the same, before selling it. According to my calculations, not. If I took PCP and paid 12k over 2 years, the minimum balloon payment would have to be about £20k and you can't balloon that much can you?

Obviously it's preferable to 'own' a car but not at a silly premium. I'd rather trade currency with the £10k that's still in my account.

Not a bad deal but what would put me off is lack of maintenance, 6 months down upfront and that fact you are tied in for 2 years. Leasing is good but it doesnt give you the freedom to change cars.

Also, they don't charge you quite all of the options over the term - more like 85%. They have broken it all down in the quote...

For example, £120 for the mirrors on the configurator, and they charge me about £100 for them over the term.
The quote I got he charged the full value after discount over the 2yr term. So Sat Nav Plus worked out at £1480 in rentals, which is equivalent to the £1650 option price less 10% discount (which was applied to the list price, and to all of the options).

err, muppet question (never contract-hired a car before ):

"3+23" = 3 months payment up-front, followed by 23 payments, OK fine. But does the "3" represent 1 months rental, and 2 months deposit, which you get back at the end (assuming you haven't trashed it etc). Sorry, stupid (obvious) question probably. And how "likely" are you to get it back, is it like a hire company in Costa Del Sol, where they'll try to say you scratched it, and it'll cost 6 squillion quid to repair, so you've lost your deposit etc...

And is AVS servicing really around 12-14k miles? I thought I'd be able to get away with no servicing in 2 years, as I only do around 6k pa.

Thanks :beerchug:

Flux, the deposit is non-refundable; I don't know why they call it a deposit, really it's an 'initial payment'. It covers the first month, so you're paying for the hire in advance, as you pay your second payment at the beginning of the second month and so on.

I thought AVS servicing was up to 20k and 2 years, I suppose it depends on how enthusiastically you drive it!

Thanks. So on a 3+23, you're really paying 26 months worth of payments for a 24 month lease then?

Yeah, I thought 20k / 2 yrs from my previous VAG experience, but the posts above seem to say differently.

AVS servicing on my S3 came up at 11K. I do approx 9k per year so had my service at 14 months old, cost £275 (London/Essex prices!)

Perhaps leasing is the way forward for expensive car purchases, if we think about it logically we are paying for x amount per month depreciation so we are all throwing money away - I might look into this next time, it may even tempt me to keep a car more than a year !

Good thread

Ok...interesting development....went to Audi to see if they could match this deal and they said yes - basically agreeing to a 10% discount on the car as quoted above. Also, they found me a car with very similar spec, brand new and unregistered in the dealer network, and will get it for me next week!

So, I get the car now, not in 3 months, and they are charging me £410/month including VAT at 6+23 - I'm very impressed with them.

Also in the quote they refer to the car as 'S3 2.0 TFSI 09' but I guess that must be wrong - they can't have a 2009MY car available already surely?

Nice guys at Epsom Audi too, I recommend them - very helpful and polite - kept offering me tea and biscuits.

Be interesting if it is a MY 2009 car......
Well done on getting the deal secured.

I would have thought it would be MY08, as I didn't think MY09 were available until Sept/Oct?

The quote that you refer to ("....09"), is that a quote from the leasing company, or from Audi? If from Audi, then it must mean it's an 09 spec I guess

Surprised (pleasantly) that Audi matched what was actually a very competitive quote that you had, nice one

That quote is from Audi - here is a copy and paste of the title:

[FONT=Arial+1]AUDI S3 3DR HAT 2.0 TFSI QUATTRO 09

I guess it still could be a typo. Didn't think they were going to start building them until round about now...

I think (not blowing my own trumpet) I was one of the first to order (19/05/08) a new facelift S3 when the announcement was made.

I have a confirmed build week of 32 and delivery back end of August for pick up 1/09 so would be amazed if it was a 09MY car!

Yeah, I just spoke to the dealer and they have confirmed it's a 2008MY car.
Not bothered though, I have already sold my A3 and can't drive around in my GF's Polo 1.2 E any longer.

It is so bottom of the range I'm surprised they supply a key.

thats good to hear Audi matching the quote... I did the same with my local dealer and have built up a great relationship with them so far too, which is nice ;)

Enjoy the motoring!

Not wanting to cause a row - but I also sold a 3.2 A3 to buy the S3. Very wise choice mate - the two cars are WORLDS apart IMHO. Have been thrashing my S3 round Oulton Park on a trackday today and am still grinning from ear to ear. Never got that in the 3.2.

Without wanting to dampen your excitement, but your original quote was for 10% on a 2009 MY, your final deal was for for 10% on a 2008 MY - I'm afraid the dealer won that one, there getting rid of stock they really don't want hanging around much longer.
Sorry dude :(
Depends how bothered YOU are - you could argue that by them putting 2009 MY on the documentation they misled you????? That is if you can wait 3 months for the facelift version????

Sorry mate, I know it's supposed to be an exciting time, but just thought i'd stick my thoughts in!

(if it were me, I'd probs go for the facelift...!)

Either way, it's the same toy underneith.... you WILL love it :salute:

Jamie,

this had occurred to me, and my decision was made for me when I drove home from the dealer in my girlfriend's Polo having just been testdriving the S3. I thought, "I want a car now. i don't want to wait".

Now, if i were buying, i would want the facelift; but I'm not so I don't care about the effect on residuals. Also, the facelift has the DRL's, which I'm not crazy about, and a flat bottom steering wheel and armrest, both of which are specced on the car I've ordered; so overall I made the decision based on that.

Essentially, I'm too impatient to wait, and I would only care about the facelift if i were worried about having the latest model...

I know what you're saying - drove the S3 for the first time today and I was so impressed. I loved my 3.2 but the S3 is a different experience. The DSG and the 3.2 was so smooth and refined and I would probably prefer that again in about 20 years time! But for the moment, the S3 is all i can think about! Let me know when you're next hitting the track, I want to come along!

Fair cop magnus - I'm an impatient fecker too - the wait for mine drove me crazy!

Glad you got what YOU wanted mate!
