BMW 135i (306 BHP 3 litre, straight 6, twin turbo). These hit a torque of 400 at 1300 rpm all the way to 5000 rpm and can hold onto an M3.....not the newist one though, but wait for the remap :rockwoot:

1000 miles ex sales Manager car at head office (not a sales office so not been a demonstrator) 6 months old, mint condition with loads of extras including: Sat nav, Voice control, iDrive, iDrive connect, Heated leather seats, Xenon lights with daytime driving light rings, Velor matts etc....£35k spec.

getting it for my 2007 S3 + £6995k with 6 monts road tax.

Sounds like a decent deal price and spec wise. Will be interested to hear how you find the perfomance and handlign relative to the S3.......

I enjoyed my drive in the 135i - a little twitchy in the wet but great fun and a wonderful sound, I'd also be surprised if the engine did'nt make more power than claimed as it certainly felt like more than 306bhp to me - sounds a pretty good deal, they retail in excess of £32K for that spec so you got around £23K for the S3, let us know what you think after a few days ownership :)

My last car was 370 BHP and rear wheel drive and in the wet I needed traction control on most of the time as it would break loose so easily. To a degree it is the "danger" that I have missed. I like the feel of a car going a bit out of shape and having the power to steer into it and get traction back and catapult up the road. I didnt realise you drove the 135i, I thought you drove the 335i and 335d. both are quick as well, I imagine being lighter than the 335 the 135i really does kick you in the chest.
 
Congrats on the 135i mate.... Seriously a phenomenal car. You say it'll hold onto the previous model M3.... There's a video review on YouTube of the 335i vs. 135i vs. old M3. The 135i is the quickest in a straight line and faster around a track than the 335i. Not quite as quick around a track as the M3 though.
All in all, if you can put up with the looks its a stunning car. Personally i can't get used to the looks and i don't want another small car so i'm going down the 335i route.

Let us know how you get on anyway.
 
Seen a few of these on the net, look decent and great performance figures.

Lots of people in the US with tuned ones. Few vids on youtube.
 
Can you get a map for the 3.0 TT petrol? Understood it was a REALLY difficult one to crack, and as yet has been unsuccessful... Sorry, think BIRDS/HARTGE is the only one available.

Not saying you need one, but would be amazing with.
 
I'd say that car would be close to dangerous with a map! Short wheelbase, rear wheel drive....and what, 360bhp mapped? Scary stuff in the wet.

Is there an M1 planned??

Don't know shipping costs, but US customers can collect their cars in Germany for a further 7% discount!

Also nearly cried when I saw they get the M3 'Sedan' for $53,800 (ignoring the 7% discount above!)

So in theory , i could jet over over to the states , order and spec a " full monty " with Performance parts , 135i and pick it up in Germany for 30k?

In theory at least, although I suspect BMW wouldn't want to supply a RHD vehicle to a US dealer. Then there are the warranty issues that would likely arise, so I think it is a nice idea in concept but may not work in practice.

Still the US pricing is totally unfair given that they're made in Europe and shipped out there, so will actually cost BMW more to supply the US than it does the UK.....
 
just spotted a company called P-torque do a remap via OBD for the 135i, they quote 380bhp !! It does cost £900 THOUGH.
 
You can put a tuning box on the 35i, tried and tested, one guy over on e90post has had his dyno'd at 399BHP!!!!
 
One of the directors at work has one - lovely car and makes a great noise, suprisingly ecomical for a 6 cylinder car and good on the old emmisions as well. Did have a look at one before bought the S3, but local BMW (was / is a tit) and could not get me a date for the coupe 135i, so they lost a sale.
1 series BMW is the only one in the BMW range I would not hesitate to buy.

I went in BM ( David Holmes ) last thursday ( IIRC ) they never had a 135i in for me to test drive , he said he'd sort it, no call as of yet.

He was trying to get me to spec a car " LOL ive not even driven one yet mate " i bet he thinks i'm a time waster even though i pointed at my S3 when he asked me what i drive....blurt.

Out of curiosity I've just been on the BMW configurator for the 135i. To spec it the SAME as my S3 is coming in at £34,895. You even have to pay for leather and heated seats.

Bit steep for not much more power and a tackier interior no ?
 
Hi again, Picked it up yesterday. Not run in yet as it only had 1108 miles on the clock (book says 1250 miles to run in). got 1200 on it now so given it a few rags. It still feel tight but it fantastic. with the TC off the back wheels are feathering al the way to 2nd gear change and 2nd gear is still feathering very slightly, but you can hit 70 in 2nd. If you give just a little too much welly off the line, the rears lit up good and propper. I wouldn't be supprised if this was sub 5 sec's to 60. The torque delivery if fantastic, almost from tickover, so you can pull away rerally fast with no clutch abuse at all. It will pull like a train from 40MPH (ish) in 6th gear, like the S3 did in 3rd. Mine was spec'd to £35k and I got it for my S3 (2007 with 11000 miles, Phon prep and bose upgrade) + £6995, with 6 months road tax and a full tank of fuel. I got the leather, heated seats, professional Sat Nav, Voice control, bluetooth and few other bits that I fail to remember right now, I'm too excited to think.

Coming back from the dealers, about 120 miles got 30MPG and there was lots of slow traffic and moments of madness to see how quick it was, so can't grumble with that. They recon 40MPG is possible and to be honest I recon it could get close if you sat it at 70 all day.

Anyway, cant wait to lossen the engine up and see what it will do then, but I recon it about the best performance money can buy for under £30k (on standard spec with no extras). Mine is the MSPORT so the brakes, Suspension, skirts, fron and rear bumpers etc are all uprated / changed. Good, firm riode quality and very little bodyroll when cornering, it feels very planted and secure. Found out today if you press and hod the TC button for 3 sec's it switches everything off completely as the setting I have been using switches it off most of the way but leaves a tiny bit in reserve just incase it goes severley out of shape. I would guess I would need it off only if I was on the tract and wanting to power slide it sideways, so I will leave that one alone.
 
Great car choice I really like the 135i and would consider it when the S3 comes up for renewal.

Dont get too excited about the 0-60 though, it is not a sub 5 second car out of the box but sure it could be with some modifications :)
 
You can spec an RS4 on the American Audi website for $66000, roughly £33000, with all the extras as they come in one pack but you have to add on sales tax which varies from state to state ......... might move there myself

I don't like the 1-series that much.... Well I have seen a 3 door one in white... sure looks better but shape wise still prefer my S3.

Also in the mags were they tested the 135i most were disappointed not because car is not good but because the short wheel base doesn't give it the healthy dynamics a rear wheel 3 series has... so a bit twitchy they said....

If looking for a rearwheel drive car with that engine I would go for the 3 series... not much more expensive and a lot more car!! Judging by the 118d I drove a couple a weeks ago, it is a step down in interior materials and "feel good" cabin.... also the door shuts like a garage gate!!! ahahah

But what an engine!!!! the 135i that is!!

Just gone past the Lexus garage in Cheltenham and they have an Audi RS4 for £36k. Sounds a gd deal to me!!! A lot of car for the money.
Mate should have stayed with audi, but hey i am desperate to get myself a new 335d. Cant live without the diesel economy.
 
335d? what diesel economy?

I suppose it is a good excuse... if you can afford a 335d does fuel economy is an issue?

The 3.0 twin turbo in the 135i is simply phenomenal. One of the best engines around at the moment, it's got unbelievable torque, good emissions and decent fuel economy (I saw average of 26mpg in two days of mixed driving).

I thought the 2.7 bi-turbo beast in the B5 S4/RS4/A6 was good, but compared to the BMW engine it's gutless and uneconomical.

I've got high hopes for Audi's new 3.0 supercharged V6 for the new S4.

Seems to suddenly be a lot on there, all around £29,995, guess they could all be ex-management cars that are now being released?
 
Generally speaking BM's registered on a Y prefix plate are ex management. They register them all at a big PDI centre in Yorkshire near the port they use.

Obviously some will be from the local dealers, but if you are looking at ones for sale in say Gatwick, then the chances are it's ex management.

Synters have an ex management used car site which is quite good as well.
