boot swap questions

right me a someone else are thinking of swaping boots cause i don't like the spoiler on my 96 quattro and he wants a spoiler on his v plate 2.5 tdi.
looking at them the seems simular but there are some differances like the line going across the boot and the locks look different. what do we need to do if it's possible at all. and how hard will it be.?

i think the fit will be ok however your mate will lose his/her electronic boot release.. also you will have to have his/her key for the boot etc and like wise for yours..
you wont be able to swap the barrells as they have a different fitting

I never knew the 2,5TDI Q was a facelift car.

The paint codes won't match. Too far apart in build date.

the lock for mine is on the central locking, but there is no separate key for it. The ignition key is one key fits all. I have taken the inner boot liner off to have a look at the lock plate, and theres just 2 bolts. The number plate lighting may be a problem, though. The wiring runs in a plastic tube, through 2 grommets and into the cars rear side panel. As far as i can make out, the hinges and the gas lift remain

To be honest, the wiring isn't an issue.

You'll lose the 3rd-button operation for the trunk release.
Again, not an issue. You'll both have to cut extra keys to swap.

The issue here is, you'll both end up with cars that have 2 different keys each.
Not a big deal, but come re-sale time, it will become an issue.
A late car with 2 different keys will certainly raise eyebrows.

The most visible difference, will be the trunklids.
The lids are the most obvious differences between a pre and post-facelift, from the rear.

The early trunk lid will look a bit odd, with the facelift bumper, and tails.

Are you prepared to answer awkward questions, from potential buyers?

It seems a lot of hassle, just for one to lose a spoiler, and another to gain one.

The logical thing would be for Joss to sell his spoiler to Marshall, then use the funds from the sale, plus about £70 to get his trunk holes welded, and the whole thing resprayed.

Just my opinion though, you both have the choices to make.
I can tell you now, your paints will NOT match, so you'll both need resprays.

Joss, the boot release mechanism is different as well. Yours appears to be a push-in lock barrel, whereas mine is under that under the lock panel, alongside the number plate lights. It does look a lot of trouble to go to, especially if the paints are different colours. If you still decide to remove the spoiler, then i would be interested in buying it off you, as i dont think a colour difference would be as noticeable as the boot lids

no thats cool dude i was thinking the same after all the info come in..will let you know if i take it of and fill the holes.cheers joss
