Our kids asked me to sell her TT 225 Roadster for her and look for a Merc SLK Roadster for her.

She's got 20k max so looking at 04-05 cars , what are the model numbers? ive not got a clue, is it BHP? ie SLK200 is that 200bhp?

She wants manual , any help would be great.

Capacity isn't it ? SLK350 = 3.5 litre V6 and SLK 200 = 2.0 litre supercharged.

Go for AMG if you find one at budget .....

As above generally refers to the engine size.

the 350 is meant to be the one to go for from what I have read. Dont know if this is still true but I was told a few years ago that Merc make bad manual gearboxes and you are much better off with an Auto?

You've got the choice of the 200SLK which is a 1.8 with 161bhp or the 350 which has 268bhp. Late 05 they added the 280 which slots in between with about 231bhp.

Should be able to get a 350 for the budget you're talking or perhaps a leggy 280.

CO2 on the 280 is about the same as an S3, but the 350 I think was over 250 pre the recently revised engine

yep you need leather and an auto for the Merc, go for the biggest engine possible and search merc forums for problems.

It's only the newly launched one that is 300bhp, the previous versions are 268bhp - 0-100 in about 14.5 so should be able to show it a clear pair of heals

No chance P. - those folding roofs weigh nearly as much as Saturn. The super dooper updated 350 is reviewed in this month's evo. Gets panned. Let her buy it then show her the review before roaring off in the S3.
