Hi all,

I have recently finished the installation of one of AndyMac's stealth sub creations in my S3.

These subs are a great piece of engineering and uses an Elemental Designs driver which performs flawlessly. The installation is totally stealth and there is no evidence of an upgrade (unless you pop the boot panel on the left).

Andy's installation instructions, design, the kits build quality and supplied Alpine V12 amp are of a very high standard. The whole kit is supplied included all cables to hook up the system.

If you are looking for an audio upgrade for your 8L then I would highly recommend looking into this. The sound difference is enormous - I now have some quality punchy bass in my car that is accurate and pleasing to the ear without the need for high volume. I also replaced the rear passenger panel speakers with some JBL GTO's that I had lying around and these improved the mids and tops in the rear.

Thanks again Andy for a quality product - highly recommended :)

how much this little lot cost then if you dont mind me asking? what sub are you using?

Contact AndyMac for full details as there may be options on what driver you have which alters the cost. Mine uses the Elemental Designs driver. Its a really large boost to the audio in the car without compromising any space.

Got mine from Andy this week. Just waiting for a driver from the US now, courtesy of a business trip. Then it's time to dismantle the back of the car...
:eyebrows:
Cheers,

Is Andy not using the JL Audio subs anymore? If not it would be interesting to see how this new setup compares with the old ones.

Still using JL's but they've discontinued the 0W6 and the replacement is £115, so quite a bit more expensive, although they are a better and more powerful design. The ED sub is a lot cheaper and seems to do the job, but difficult to tell if there's any discernable difference without listening to two A3's side by side.
The new JL unit 6W3v3-4 does look the business though:

Any pics of the install inside the boot?

Id be interested in a price for the JL upgrade too Andy,

I have a 12" JBL GTO and JBL Amp in the boot of my A3 but i get the horrible fuzzy noise on low volumes not sure why that is?

Does your upgrade sort that out?

Jason

Does look good mate, but as its a stealth install what it looks like is of little interest. Have to say your original setup still impresses me every time i get in the car. Defo a must have for any 8L owner imho.

Yes I know, but I'm just a sad *******. Glad you still love it.
I only have pics of the old JL unit installed:

The full kit is around £320, that includes the enclosure, sub, Alpine V12 300wrms amp, fused 40amp power cable & RCA adapter loom, so everything you need.
The horrible fuzzy noise is probably because whoever installed it used a line out converter, or speaker input option on the amp which will always increase the likelihood of interference & noise. Using the RCA adapter loom I supply you are using the pre-outs already available in the boot, so a nice clean signal.

So Andy i drive to your place and hand over 320 in cash and its all fitted?

If so im VERY interested!

Jason

I think I need to stress that it's an upgrade to the standard Bose option and it's a stealth unit. Whist it's a great bit of kit and sounds good, it's not quite as good as a seperate amp and sub setup, if done properly with mid to top gear, not budget stuff which is loud but not clear.
The Andymac install compliments the Bose mid/tweeter setup, I've not heard an Andymac install with standard factory mid/tweeters, so can't comment on that.

Andy, how much would it be for just the enclosure and the speaker? I have a JL 8w7 at the moment but looking to get rid of it for one of yours, How much would it be worth? it's in a proper JL enclosure.

If anyone is interested this is it.. The driver cost about £500 new with box i think and was in the car when i bought it but I'm not keen on taking up my boot space! It sounds very very good and is regarded as the best in the business of it's size and even out performs larger ones

if you have the 6 cd in dash radio then do you make the sub box bigger ???? as you dont need to leave room for the changer........... ?

Nope, the space where the changer goes gets narrower so the shape would have to accommodate this and then you'd be hard pushed to secure the sub in position as there's very little room.
The enclosure is £95, the JL 6W3v3-4 is £115 (fitted & tested) + £15 Parcelforce 2 day delivery = £225 total.
