I'm wanting to purcahse an A3 but need to know exactly what the differences are between the Sport and an S-Sine (standard & optionals) to see whether it's worth spending that little bit extra on an S-line.
The purchase will be a used car rather than new (higher specs for less money :D
I'd prefer the facelift model, from a 56 plate i think, or was there another facelift after that. Apart from the one due.

HI...

the last face lift was on 56 plate like you said on cars built from i think mid october 2006 (apart from the current one just now).......

Go S-Line worth the extra money.....

Sport has white roof lining, S-Line has black.
Sport is 10mm lower than standard. S-Line 15mm lower than sport.
S-Line has S-Line front bumper, grille, door sills, seats, steering wheel, badges, alloys.

Definitely recommend the S-Line over the sport.

The S-line looks great, the Sports look bland...

when I had a Sport Sportback courtesy car I found the ride to be truly awful

That is the exact opposite of what I found. I drove both Sport and S-Line before buying and found the S-Line too harsh and the Sport about right.

So the S-Line from 57 plates have black headlining as standard :D
I think it's something Audi should have done from the start.

I so wish I hadn't sold my 56 plate A3!!! :keule:

It is standard now - not sure about the early models.

Yep it will have black headling as standard....

I have just bought this A3 about 2 weeks ago and paid £17499 might give you an idea on price and spec etc...

2007 Audi A3 Sportback 2.0 Tdi (170) DPF, S-Line,DSG S-Tronic, Akoyo Silver, 18"Alloys 14 Spoke Design, RNS-E 2007 TMC, Rear Parking Sensors,Bose Sound System,6 CD Changer,Black Leather Sport Seats,Auto Folding Mirrors,Tyre Pressure Sys.

s-lines have black headlining from the start unless you choose otherwise.

Dont know about id guess maybe £24000 ish new ? It was registered in Jan 2007 , 1 Previous owner , Private dealer i found on the internet was selling it he took it in as a px, Audi wanted about £21000 for a simlar spec car !!!

S-line is the only spec worth bothering with, IMHO.
S-line ride is hard, but can be chucked around.
Sport rides better, but is wobblier than a fat lass on a ferry.
My '05 sportback S-line had black headlining, BTW.

The S-Line suspension on the Sportback is also significantly more comfortable than that on the 3-door.

The S-Line suspension on my 3-door A3 will shake all your fillings out in seconds !

Where was this dealer mate? Did you find them through the AutoTrader...?

Just looking and found a 05 plate that looks the same as the 56 plate, so how eaely was the facelift (05)

I personally wouldn't consider anything below and S-Line. I think it makes a massive difference and really makes the car. ALL Audi's throughout the range below an S-Line just look really bland and uninspiring to me.

Hear hear.:salute:

I also agree that the sportback S-line ride is slightly better than the three door S-line ride.
IIRC, the sportback is around 50kgs heavier, which will preload the springs.
If you were to permanently carry a 50kg load in a 3 door, you would effectively replicate the sportback's ride.

Just come across a Misano Red one, decent spec for £12,750 65k on clock.

Can't be a 170 for that money, is it?
If it's a 140, you should be able to get lower mileage than that for the money.
My '05 Sportback 140tdi S-line DSG (phew..) was offered to us for £13k (in March this year) by the leasing company, with 36k miles on the clock.
There are thousands of A3's for sale, mate.
Buyers market, shop around.

It was around 54/05 time there was certainly no facelift after that until the current one just gone.

It's the 140 mate. I've previously had an A3 140 and an A4 170. If you were to purchase the 140 remapping should take it to around 170 anyway

Yeah, you should be able to get one with a lot lower mileage than 65k.

I went into Autotrader and used the following search.

Audi > A3 > Between £10k and £13k > diesel > under 40k miles

There were 183 hits.
