Top Gear cool wall

I like Clarkson, how he writes and how politically correct he isn't but I rarely agree with his opinion on what's cool or not, or what's cockish and what isn't.

I mean he's as old as my dad for crying out loud, how the hell does he know what's cool?

My dad is 68. He has no idea what is cool but he can tell if someone is a ****. The two things are different. Some very interesting things being thrown up in this thread I must say. Could you be cool AND be a **** ?

Could you be cool AND be a **** ?

Well the bloke in the black RS4 I have to contend with thinks he's cool.
Everyone else in the street thinks he's a ****.
So, in that sense, yes.:sm4:

P*ss funny !

This is it though isn't it ? A **** would WANT to pay an extra £20k just for the "M" badge. A non-**** would buy the 335i because its clearly the better value option. With you all the way on this one.

I'm with you all the way on this one - 335I = a lot of car for the money IMO.

Fortunately he was quite specific with the model of breitling...

My wife Clare looked at me at this comment as I have a Brietling too, but I'm positive he doesn't mean the one I have - Gulp !!

I like Clarkson, he makes me laugh and is so opinionated but I don't think anyone needs fashion tips from him...LOL :)

I was in my little Renault Kangoo van going to work 10pm-ish friday night , was on the M/Way which was quiet doing about 123456780 ish flat out and a Audi TT 225 came zooming up behind and flashed me to move over!

Div i thought , i bet you wouldn't be doing that if i was in the S3! bellend.

He was talking about the professional series, the emergeny ones with the built in tramsitter. Don't worry your safe unless you have one of those of course :)

My Claire was the same as I have a couple myself.

If the motorway was quiet, why did he need to flash you? Surely you weren't in the 3rd lane!!??

I thought it was funny.

The funniest part to me is that Clarkson ranted and raved how great the RS4 was when he raced the climbers.

He said he'd want one over the M3.

To me that makes him the king of the ***** as all the ***** bought one on his recommendation

Nobody's going to think any **** is cool, other than the **** himself.

Had a quiet day at work so wasted it by pondering this. Can you think of ANYONE who is a **** but also cool ?

Eric Cantona could be a right **** at times but he was undeniably cool.

So, were you in an 'overtaking' lane with nothing inside of you?

Well I would have flashed you then.

Yeah i had only " just " overtaken a slower car and was still in the outside lane. ( don't forget i'm at full chat , i can't just " pull away " )

I would of moved over into the centre lane anyway , it's the fact he didn't wait for me to do so before he hit the lights. ie aggresive bellend driving.

p

Nice cars, watches, clothes etc will always come in for some stick at some point.
Its a British disease that all things `nice` are actually cockish/vulgar/uncool/flash.
Its ******** IMO, if you can afford it, buy it and enjoy it.

Amen

PS - Ok Clarkson is funny, but he still has a Sheeps Head

Thats a good point, but he seems to constantly contradict himself, maybe they just forget what they have said in episodes of old!?

When, exactly, did he change his opinion and say the RS4 was now crap?
He didn't.:o.k:

He just said there's a high likelihood an RS4 will be owned by a ****, or someone who drives like one, anyway.
The whole point of the cool wall is that it completely seperates the abilities of the car itself from whether it's cool or not.
Hence you get some ****** awful cars being classed as 'cool' and some ****** good cars being classed as uncool.
Take the Aston Martin they moved from sub-zero to mega-uncool.
Nothing against the car, great car.
It's just become a bit 'new money' (footballers, lottery winners etc.)
So it isn't cool.:meeting:

I think Clarkson was being very general about Audi drivers but i think there are several models in the Audi range which are going to always have that '****' image.
I saw my first TT-S on the open road yesterday with chrome grille, chrome mirrors and fairy lights.... In Ibis White. I'm sorry, i know it's probably a good car and there are a few of you who are looking at one but my god....That is the definition of a ****'s car.
RS4's seem to have attracted the wrong sort of attention nowadays and the 572bhp RS6 will obviously be seen as a ****'s car as it's so ridiculously excessive. I'd love one though.

Bit of an irony that Clarkson sat and did an interview with Simon Cowell and both agreed that the R8 was a supercar for the people. People let you out of junctions etc. Clarkson himself drives an Gallardo Spyder (Audi?!).
I think it's all a bit tongue in cheek really.

Yes, it's only the image he was describing, not the actual car. He did like the M3 before but again it was the image of owning one! There are quite a number of RS4s around now owing to its success and relative accessibility, and it's inevitable that amongst their owners there will be a percentage of '*****' by the law of averages. For every RS4 owner who drives like a '****', there are plenty who do not and in my experience the same could be said of the M3. Unfortunately it is the modern culture in Britain to always focus on the negative.

I drove one the other day with that EXACT description. I fell in love with it!

Hmmmm Bowfer, where did I say he said it was crap?

Don't think you'll find that in my post.

My point is that he thought it was better than the M3, love him or hate him he influences peoples opinions when buying cars.

He said Sunday that the "*****" were moving from M3's to RS4'S - a sidewards movement of *****!

All I was saying is that he influenced that movement - that makes him Chief ****

Hope that clears, what I thought was a clear post.

I seriously doubt Clarkson has had any impact on RS4 sales.
Firstly, I'd venture most made up their mind they wanted one already.
Secondly, chances are a few of them will see '****' as a badge of honour.
Take the **** that roars past my house in an RS4, purely as an example.
Will he care?
Doubt it, it's just more of the attention he so evidently craves.

...... love him or hate him he influences peoples opinions when buying cars.

Yes indeed.

I remember talking to an Alfa salesman shortly after the 156 came out, and he said that Clarkson can make or break a car. (He loved the 156).

My interpretation of his comment was that the ***** that were driving the E46 M3 are now moving to the RS4 as the prices of them have dropped to the mid 30's.

The fact that he said it was a great car, along with just about all the motoring press, may have had an influence.

He also says the same thing about a lot of cools cars, as soon as a footballer drivers one they become uncool

Patrice Evra (Man Utd) drives past my house sometimes on the way to Carrington training ground. He drives a BMW Z4 Coupe ...

Oh god, not just a footballer, but a ****** Manure player...
Sell sell SELL

My personal taste puts the BMW M Coupe (Z4 based) in my Top 3 "must have" cars.
