Well on my way to Lydden Race track I hit a speed hump which mad an almighty thump but did not realise it had cracked the sump.

Well after doing a 120 mile round trip I start the car only to be met with oil light which I thought was strange so I turn her off check the oil and there’s none. I have a look underneath and the last few dregs are spilling on the floor "oh siht" I now have to do my oil pump sooner than I thought.:banghead:

So does anyone know a cheap place to pick-up an Oil pump and sump by any chance?

Well I knocked the sump on the way out so I was real lucky there was any oil still in her.

Been phoning around for parts and the Oil pump is a killer at £177.59 the sumps only £64.75 from Audi so things not looking good bar the sump.:(

you can get new oil pumps on ebay for about £60, or did you specifically want OEM?

maybe its a part thats prone to failure?

although the pickup is probably a bigger failure point than the pump itself.

I guess once you've got it all off its probably silly not to swap the pump out while your there.

Depending on how scored the original housing is you can sometimes get a rebuild kit for the pump which might be a cheaper option than a whole new unit?

Well I do have pickup issues hence why I was going to replace the pump but if a rebuild kit will do the job with a new pickup pipe and would go that way but I don't care if I buy OEM or After market.

I would also be intrested in a repair kit for the sump if there is one so any leads would be good.

You can say that again although Euro Car Parts do one for £85 and yes I checked ebay but they don't have one for my engine.

Ouch. Trouble with running a low car i guess.

Slightly off topic but does anyone make a metal sump guard for the B5 A4? I've seen them for the passat maybe that would fit?

Get an OEM one, you will only regret it otherwise
$170 from Bob at QED

You could rivet a layer of ali sheet to the under tray, that might offer some protection and not weigh too much...

Doc just done my oil pump, and sump gasket... i have my old oil pump still if you want it? I put a new one in thinking it was the pump but it was the old bunged up pickup pipe.. checked all tollerences against the new one i put in and there is no wear or difference at all, i could clean it up if you like and you could have it if you want?

Well I bodged up the old sump with some sort of cemical metal stuff but it wont hold for ever but will get me by.

Andy what engine did it come off or if it's got a part number then I can look it up to see if it's the same.

Oh and what you want for it by the way.

Its off my AEB 1996 engine... don't want anything for it as far as i was concerned it was going to sit on my shelve in the shed as a spare lol. Dunno the part numbers as its over my parents house in my shed at the mo. Just pay postage

That would be sweet but I think it may be the wrong fitment as I'm a AJL 2000 engine but I will look it up plus I may just go the pickup route instead.

I am pretty sure it will physicaly fit, but you will lose the oil temp sender, as they are in the sump on the later models as i have an APU sump on mine with sender, i just didnt connect it
