DRIVE E46 M3 AND AWWWW MY GOD!!!!

You sound like my brother, he is 23 and has a carbon black 54 plate m3 manual. He did the sensible thing and purchased a house first though lol.

Anyway he had a tt 240 sport which was a great car but bored him to death and had always wanted an e46. IMO the car looks better than an s3 however the interior is starting to look a bit dated. The sound is awesome and when you want to have fun there is no denying it is leaps and bounds ahead of the s3.

What he is discovering is how thirsty the car is and his insurance was also a lot more than the audi. Is it any faster than my mapped 8p s3??? in reality no certainly not point to point but on track would beat it. Do you like driving like a snail in the wet or risk being **** scared??

Now the best bit, his car is on 27k and requires new ball joints, exhaust hanger (welded to chassis) discs and pads and a new tyre. £1,800 from BMW so not cheap to maintain either.

They are starting to get on aswell so my advice would be to stay with the s3 mate.

wise words

Agree.

I wouldnt want a blinged M3 in a million years because its just not my thing.
Neither do I feel the need to p!ss on anyones chips because they choose to have one.
Come on boys, go easy, opinions are one thing, being a tw@t to a stranger on a forum is another.

Paul

Or how about if you dont want to hear any thing negative don't post anything on a public forum...

Posting on an Audi fourm that your ditiching an S3 for an E46 M3 and your surprised that the guys getting negative comments.

Posting that your 23 with a £22.5 motor and still living with mummy and daddy. What do you expect?

There has been plenty of negative comments, one of them mine if you read my posts. You wouldnt have a forum without them.

But I think some of what been said is out of order, and have posted to that effect.

A naive 23yr old comes on an enthusiast forum to talk about his new car.
And a bunch of grown blokes pull him to bits and take the high ground with statements about him `getting a life`.

Ok, he had the whole Chav thing coming, but rubbish the car not the person.

Anyway thats all IMO, and I stand by my last post.

Paul

And I stand by mine. Don't post anything if your not prepared to take the rough with the smooth.

What do you think would be posted if they he said the opposite. Sold his motor to buy a house. Do you think ti would a load of people saying well done you've made the right choice. Or do you think there would be lots of comments about him being a fool, wrong time to buy, credit crunch blah blah blah?

Dont know where this is going.

Ive nothing more to add.

cheers

Interesting responses, it seems as though there are a lot of jealous people on this forum. I know of very few 23 year olds who live on their own in decent accomodation, why the hurry to move out? And why is it even relevant if he still lives with his parents?

The M3 E46 is a stunning car, I don't see how it can be classed as a chav motor just because of a few mods, as questionable as they seem. Has anyone other than JUX even seen the car? No, so it's best to reserve judgement until the pictures have been posted. People buy these cars for the driving, who cares how the interior looks? It may be a little dated, but I'd rather have the M3 over the S3. Do people seriously sit in their S3's/A3's and admire the build quality and design of the interior? If this is the case in my opinion that would be a little bit sad, I appreciate ergonomic, classy interiors as much as the next man but to base a decision on whether or not to buy a car purely on that is absurd.

A friend has a very nice 57 plate S3, and it's a great little car, but it's just a glorified A3 2.0T and I remind him of this constantly much to his disdain, another acquaintance has an AC Schnitzer styled M3 which would probably be classed as chav by the slightly narrow minded people of this board, but it really isn't. It's all a matter of personal taste.

Enjoy the car mate, but be prepared for steep insurance and a lot of attention from the rozzers.

20" "deep dish" wheels, eyelids, chrome grills and retro fit angel eyes. Sounds dubious from here

I agree. The interior fit and finish is irrelevent. However, lowering a drivers car and fitting 20" wheels is not in the spirit of the ultimate driving machine - and is all about show in preference to go...

Poor show.

What, no angry responses yet?

All comments are welcome...because that's exactly why people post on public forums...there's no need to insult someone elses car to compensate for comments you deem to be offensive to one individual...

I think it's normal for people to react in the way they have given the fact that the gent is still living at home and will now be running a car many professionals would find difficult to own. It's his choice. Given the state of the financial markets, it's probably not the time to move out and buy property anyway. Unless of course you live in Aberdeen where even the homeless have seen equity increases...

Please let us know what you've been quoted for insurance...and get some photos up.

i dont really see why his residential status has any bearing on what car he should or shouldnt have?

As for the Audi just being a 2.0t!!!!!!!!! you could say that with many things but fact is its an s3, its quick, reliable and has kudos.

20" rims and lowering is also the best way to de-value your m3!!!!

Calling the S3 a glorified A3 is a bit short sighted mate coming from a R32 owner.

All of the S3 owners in this club could of bought a very nice example of a e46 M3 and for one reason or other we chose not too, we all know it's a fantastic car to drive , but for me i'm not 100% sold on the looks , it looks like a saloon minus two doors!

I must be a hatchback kinda fella or small Coupe man like the Z4 M or 350z.

You pays your money....

And an R32 is a glorified Golf, what's your point?

I don't see why people get so defensive about the cars they own, it's not like you have some kind of emotional attachment to it unless it's been in the family for years or you inherited it from a deceased relative/friend.

I get plenty of abuse for owning an R32 which is considered chavvy (that word again...), but I don't care, I like the car and seeing as I had no involvement in the design process of it I don't take any comments about to heart.

Not having a dig at the S3 in any way, it's a lovely motor, but I have my opinion and you have yours. :blahblah1:

Meh...I still live with my parents (at least the paperwork says so)

Will be moving out once i return to **** within the next few weeks/months. I cant imagine living with my parents at this age(lower 20s). Imagine bringing a nice chick home...what would she think?

I think you'll find they are not jealous, just questioning his priorities. Given the choice obviously most of us would rather have a cheaper car but a place of our own.

Personally as much as my parents loved me I couldn't wait to get my own place.

J.

My point is when you were calling the S3 a glorified A3 , you " forgot " to say i drive a glorified Golf.

Why shouldn't we defend the car we bought?

It's not as if we couldn't have any car we wanted up to say 30k and i think we/i do have some sort of emotional attachment to our cars or we wouldn't spend so much time on a owners club forum.

Sad but true.

Guys, guys, guys, now i understand the whole living with parents thing and why its peeving most of you off but i do own 3 properties of my own, two of which are on rent and one my very own bachelor pad....you know...for when the ladies come over, so in my eyes ive got best of both worlds!!!

Now about the m3 being chavved, it probably is to the same people that think im a chav becuase i drive a orange s3!LOL! As for attention from the police, ive been pulled over more times in the s3 athan any other car ive had, since January, ive been pulled over about 4 times already, in my vx220 which i owned for a year prior to buying the s3 i never got pulled.

I intially just wanted peoples opinions on the cars but it all of a sudden moved on to my lifestyle!!!!!

:uhm:

dude, you know that noone will believe you own 3 properties whether you do or not, get yourself over to bmwland.co.uk & start afresh, nice bunch of guys last time i was there! good luck with the car and remember, your home (or homes) is at risk if you do not keep up repayments secured on them.

edit: don't know where the 'angry' emoticon came from, didn't do it on purpose, am not angry, not at you anyway, i am a bit at the price of diesel but that's another story

Fellas, this thread has turned into the biggest load of non-car related rubbish i've ever read!!
JUX's priorities may not be that of your own but who gives a flying f**k? I mean really? Do you take it personally whether he's on the property ladder or not?
I, in my mid-late 20's laugh at anyone who suggests i 'do the right thing' with my money and buy a house. The number of mates i've got who make do with crap motors, don't buy nice clothes anymore and are actually beginning to suffer negative equity due to buying an inflated priced property and taking on a mortgage they can't realistically afford.

I on the other hand will continue renting an apartment til the **** falls out of the property market (which it will) and will always drive a very nice car and wear a nice watch. I'm not a rich man so thats how it has to be. I'd rather own a house when i can afford one rather than a house owning me.

Everyone's different. Just because you bought a house when you were 18 back in '76 doesn't mean anything anymore. But well done.
Fine, it would drive me up the wall still living with the rents and i would be tempted to put off such an expensive car purchase and co-rent a nice apartment with a mate for £80-90 a week each.

On the beamer topic, that car actually sounds a bit pricey to me the more i think about it. Extras and mods are worth NOTHING, don't forget that. A clean, original example will always be worth more. There are some cracking fully original E46 M3's with low mileage for the same price you're paying for that and those cars will hold their value....That modded example will **** money out like a sive. Your choice though mate.

Good luck!

I know just read through what i wrote, i do sound like a bit of a c*ck!!!

Sorry guys!

JUX i was actually sticking up for you then til you lied about being a property tycoon. Come on man, you never mentioned it earlier so no one's going to believe you now! If you had the rent coming in from 3 properties and could afford a shag pad to lay empty while living at home i doubt you'd be so concerned about the insurance costs on an M3 or even be buying an E46 in the first place.

Think this thread just went to the dogs lol

Paul.

Honestly lads, what you believe is upto you, but ive done well and am happy, but its been fun this thread has!!!! SOOOOOOO many characters!!!

By the way i mention the houses at the begining of the thread, when the question was asked where i was living! lol!!!!

Sorry guys!!!! Ive sort of bogged up the forum with this crap!lol!

:whistle2:

and we're done!

been entertaining though.

Jux, how can we beleive anything you say lol.

Hang the BULLSHITTER!!! :)

That was a joke BTW. People been taking me way too seriously lately. :)

A lock on your bedroom door does not qualify as a bachelor pad!! LOL

Seriously, if you have your own bachelor pad, why do you still live with Mummy and Daddy? You still have all the bills to pay on your bachelor pad? It makes no sense!

E46 M3 is a nice car but be careful which one you buy and watch the dealer cars. There are some extremely problematic examples out there for sale look like nice cars with low miles and nice specs and rather cheap.....they are cheap for a reason. Lots of unscrupulous owners px prolematic ones (semi auto gbox issues can be horrifically expensive on earlier models) so ideally find a car you "know" or can get on a trusted recommendation.

Good Luck.

:slapped:

Guys i feel a bit battered at the moment!!! Take it easyon me for a bit!!!

But i aint no liar!

Whats a way to prove..................?Ladies and gentleman of the jury, please tell me what i can do to put your minds at ease that i JUX, of the as.net forum am no liar!!!

You want the truth!!!!!!!!! YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!:sos:

lol!!!!!!!!!!

Its true about dodgy ones. My friend had a nearly new one, back in 2002. He put it through a wall. 15k repair bill, i couldnt beleive that BMW were prepared to repair it!! Anyway, he soon chopped it in for another.

If i was looking to buy one i'd be wary of any earlier ones with more than 2-3 previous owners.

Someone please close this thread...

Why don't people belive Jux? I've been on here for a while now and never bothered to mention that I'm an Astronaut, with two Phd's and at the weekend I work in the adult film industry...that's when I have time off from F1 testing with Lewis.

Having a tommy whilst watching a german couploe banging away like a jack hammer doesn't count mate!

The one im getting is a close friends and he has had it for about 3 years now, no major problems, he's looked after it well, hence the reason i am willing to pay for his rather than one from some stranger, its just more piece of mind

Nice car, i've recently been looking at M3 CSL's, seem to hold their value fairly well.
