Hi guys,

Some bad news, i only got my s3 in January but drove the E46 M3 and wow!!!!! What a machine, so ive made an offer and its been happily accepted, ive also taken pics of my s3, good pics so i can show you guys but these will also be the ones that will be going in the trader!

Lol!!!!! Cant wait to get back in the BM!!!!!

Do you not think the E46 feels a bit dated now compared to the S3? I know what you're saying, it's a serious drivers car and one of the best BMW have ever made...even if the engine does sound like a blue bottle in a tin can as it approaches the redline!

Nope, dont give a toss about it being dated, the noise to me sounds great and after having a VX220 the s3 just seems to refined and i dont know i just dont like the way the pwer delivery works with regards to the turbo, dont get me wrong i like the s3, but i loved my vx and looks like im going to love the m3.

The interior seems okay apart from the dials which are still the ones used in the first 3 series lol!

I will agree with you on 1 thing, a lot of Audi's feel almost too refined, planted, predictable and maybe a little sterile. In other words the handling and design is almost too perfect if that makes sense.

Superb motor. Still looks stunning from the outside, and for a long time I wanted one.

Wouldn't get one now though the for interior looking a little dated now (I like my electronics/cadgets)

The interior was a worry for me too, but the one im looking at is fully loaded its also got the best combo, black with red leather, its got sat nav heated electric seats and loads of other trinkits to play with!!!!

Brilliant drive, pure drivers car, sounds great too.
Bit dated for my tastes now.
Lot a car for the money though, early ones are less than 15K.
I personally wouldnt have one now, and certainly wouldnt trade my S3 for one.

Enjoy, Im sure you wont give a toss what we think when you driving everywhere sideways.

cheers
Paul

Mind me asking what you're looking to pay?

Brilliant... but dated... and that one won't be a classic...

Could have got one... didn't even considered it... but great engine and drive, no doubt.

Sounds like a chavs wet dream :weight_lift2:

I'm sure the car is right up your street mate and if it is.... I have no idea why you bought an S3 to begin with! I'd also imagine an M3 on 20's won't exactly handle like an M3 should!
I doubt you're going to get many people in this forum sharing your enthusiasm for that particular car but good luck to you, i'm sure you'll love it :hi:

I know a few CSL owners and they always bang on about " make sure it's got BMW warrenty " and service price's are steeeeeep!

p

I bought the s3 on a spare of the moment thing, i was looking for somat more practical than my vx220, just drove to audi and saw a solar orange s3, it was just calling my name went inside made the deal, paid the deposit and that was that, 6 months later i still like it but even tough im tthe only one ive seen with an orange one and people seem to love and so do i, but even though it is dated etc, etc, etc, i dont know ill just buy it and we'll see what happens, you never know in 6 months i might just go and get somat else!

Good point.
I flirted (very briefly) with the idea on an M3 after driving a mates. They really are a fantastic car to drive.
The fact that `in warranty `cars were more than I was willing to pay for the `old model` knocked the whole idea on the head before I started looking seriously.
Blessing in disguise for me.

No warranty for me either but what the hell life about taking risks!!! lol!!! I sort of already commited to buying it and i havent even got a quote on the insurance, ive only just turned 23, now that call will be intereting!!! lol!!!

Ive told my mate he's gotta service it before i buy so if their are any probs hopefully bmw will pick em up before i buy and i will leave the rest up fate!

The e46 coupe is the nicest lookinig 3 series in my eyes (the updated E46) in M sport guise.

An e46 is a bargain when compared to the e92 m3 and the CS models the pick of the bunch.

As others have said make sure it's got a good warrenty. And find a decent independant garage, or if it's 6 years old your BM dealer will probably be offering half price servicing.

Plenty of old gits on here (including me!), so we`re maybe not as enthusiastic about an M3 on 20"s as you are.

Enjoy the car mate, and be prepared for some regular attention from the local traffic cops.:angrymod:

fair play mate, love the e46 m3, not sure about 20's but each to their own. personally i would sack them and get oem csl wheels on, staggered fit, awesome wheel.

i've had a couple of beemers and prices no worse than audi tbh, if you are out of warranty find an independant specialist, make friends with them and you will get looked after at a reasonable price, can recommend one in northants if you're this way

im yorkshire born and yorkshire bred!!!!!!!! the first i thought when my mate was putting on the alloys who by the way is much older than me and a solicitors (not a chav), was dont do it, leave the ones youve got, ive seen too many m3's spoilt by stupid alloys, but when he showed up with his new shoes, i was like wooooooooow!

Do you live at home with your parents?

Errrrrmmm........yup!

I think I would rather spend my money on getting a life and moving out of my parents house rather than spending it all on a chav-wagon.

Lol! how old are you Rob??

The servicing costs on an M are in a different league to the normal BM's...

If any of my kids come home with a flash car like that, I swear I'll kick them out.
That's taking the ****.
Nothing against the car at all, to be clear.

Well thats good, i hope you've got 2 houses to your name and a bachelor pad apartment!!!! I just find the conviniace of living at home more apealing than going off on my own, maybe you felt neglected by your parents and felt the need to move out, but im actually loved.

Ohhh well not everyones that lucky!

My mum and dad are okay with it, they just say as long as its my money they dont mind

I just find the conviniace of living at home more apealing than going off on my own,

Come on man, that's not even close to 'convenience'.
You should want to move it.
It's natural to want to leave the nest.
It's wholly unnatural to want to stay at home.

Agreed, went to Uni at 18 and didn't move back. As much as I love mom and pops I couldn't move back in with them, I enjoy my freedom far too much!

:applaus:

Fair play to you although I think the cost of ownership will surprise you...

Probably hold it's value better than a house at the moment anyway...People in this country have an obsession with owning houses...just as long as you're not towing yours with the car.

I've just gone from a E46 M3 to an S3 and to be honest I have no regrets at all. The interior did feel a bit dated, obviously it was a amazing car to drive.

But I stupidly also bought one without warranty, and ended up spending a small fortune on maintinance issues. Added to the fact I'm a little bit, younger than you the insurance was killing me!!!! Plus the added police 'interest' was driving me nuts!

Maybe worth giving http://www.warrantydirect.co.uk/ a look,

Enjoy it though mate!

I went to Uni aswell had a great time, but no place like home!

Thanks for the waranty advice, ill defo check that out

I think some people are being a bit harsh on the guy. We're commenting on the car not his lifestyle choice!
In this day in age it's not so common for people to move out so early anymore. Unfortunately i moved out quite late on in life (i'm 27 now and moved out when i was 24 due to financial reasons) and never looked back alhough i have no desire whatsoever to get a mortgage. Actually owning property early in life and getting on this all important property ladder just seems massively over-rated to me.

How does a 9k spend on magpie tat guarantee good maintainence?

Oh dear. Is this what the world has come to?

20" tyres to wreck the handling of the car and destroy the ride.

A lowering kit to remove the cross country b road capabilities of BM's finest.

Eyelids? Thats a bit 1989? No?

And as for the induction kit, I believe only BMW themselves made an meaningful alterations to the induction of that engine with any success.

The wheels on his car..........leave you speechless

Of that there is little doubt

i could have got it for less but would have had to say take the system and wheels off, i just couldnt do that, when i get it, which should hopefully be soon, if i sell my s3 quickly lol!!!!
Generally a blinged up motor is worth less than an unmolested standard car... At least in my world...

ill post some pics for you guys, trust me you'll think wow!:hubbahubba:

Yup, we will, but not in the same kind of "wow" way as you.

Looking forward to it :)

Dont understand some people in this thread, jealousy of a young lad in a nice car? I wish I had an M3 at 23.

You can live in car, you cant drive a house.

got to agree.

when i was 23 i bought a house for £54k easily on my wages, i sold it 2 years later for £125k, god knows what that house is worth now (i'm 33 now) & it was a 2 bed victorian terrace, how the yoof buy their first houses at the mo is beyond me, may as well spluff it on a nice car

to clarify my position, personally I don't know jux from adam so from that point of view he can do what he likes, i couldn't care less if he lives with a family of meerkats in a small hole in the ground. car wise, i love the e46 m3 (prefer e30 but not going to appeal so much to a 23yr old) but prefer to see them totally standard. so, for that reason, in the words of big dunc bannatyne, i'm oot

Agree.

I wouldnt want a blinged M3 in a million years because its just not my thing.
Neither do I feel the need to p!ss on anyones chips because they choose to have one.
Come on boys, go easy, opinions are one thing, being a tw@t to a stranger on a forum is another.

You sound like my brother, he is 23 and has a carbon black 54 plate m3 manual. He did the sensible thing and purchased a house first though lol.

Anyway he had a tt 240 sport which was a great car but bored him to death and had always wanted an e46. IMO the car looks better than an s3 however the interior is starting to look a bit dated. The sound is awesome and when you want to have fun there is no denying it is leaps and bounds ahead of the s3.

What he is discovering is how thirsty the car is and his insurance was also a lot more than the audi. Is it any faster than my mapped 8p s3??? in reality no certainly not point to point but on track would beat it. Do you like driving like a snail in the wet or risk being **** scared??

Now the best bit, his car is on 27k and requires new ball joints, exhaust hanger (welded to chassis) discs and pads and a new tyre. £1,800 from BMW so not cheap to maintain either.

They are starting to get on aswell so my advice would be to stay with the s3 mate.
