Basically i think my car is ready for some new oil. It's been a while since i've had to buy any so just out of interest... What do you guys use and recommend?

Cheers.

Paul.

....Not helpful!

I know... sorry. Someone will post it soon tho... Its what ever comes as standard with the car.

In fact, I think theres already a thread on this somewhere?

Castrol Edge 5W-30. Get it from Halfords its alot cheaper than your dealer. Its VW 504 00/507 00 compliant and what the 2.0TFSI comes with.

To be honest i don't know why i started this thread. I'll just do what i always do... Go to the auto parts place and just buy the best they've got. Tends to eliminate all doubt!! lol

hahaha yes it would, although if I can sow some doubt for you, maybe they are just promoting a particular oil which they make some cash on??

You could again reply with comment #3, but seeing as this is now a 'useless' thread we may as well have a go.

Castrol Edge 5W-30 is what Audi recommend why not just stick with that. If you do use something else make sure its 504/507 compliant as your cars still under warranty.

Fine, Castrol Edge 5W-30 it is then... Cheers anyway fellas!

Yep but its still bottled as Longlife III in dealers.

On the subject of oil (and I might have said this before) but is it just me that finds it hard to read the dipstic? I've given up trying to read it and will just see if the light ever comes on.

I swear by Motul oils, there are some specific for 504/507 compliance. In my opinion, they are superior to Castrol. Even the top of the range RS is much worse than motul´s 300 V which is ester based and group 5 (castrol RS is a group 3, hydrocracked, not fully synthetic).

Castrol Edge Sport. And i agree, the dipstick was designed by a dipstick,i think a straightened wire coat hanger would be better!

Was in Costco today, and they had 3*1litre bottles of 5w-30 Castrol edge (or whatever its called), for £19.50 or so (inc VAT), so get your skates on, that is dirt cheap!

Auto Express last week had a feature on Halfords' new oil range including one to VW 504 and 507.... Don't think the article was defaced with a price though

Theres better oil than Castrol. Fuchs, Motul and Silkolene, to name three.

Get it from Opie oils as said and it will cost you the same as the Castrol stuff.

If it's for your intrim oil change , go to the dealer to get your stamp while it's in warrenty.

I am always using Motul 300v on all my cars (double ester technology)

For the S3: Motul 300v 5w-30
