GTI International.. what did people think!?

JohnnyC - I think I saw one of your runs on sunday. Have you got black rims with a red pin stripe?

J.

No that was another guy there.. I didnt run on either day, kind of wished I had now..

My car was on the Forge stand all day..

Is anyone else feeling the after effects of yesterdays weather?

The howling winds masked the sun rather well. It must have been beating down as I am now sporting a serious farmers tan. My face is sore and theres a rather embarrassing outline of the sunglasses around my face

Cracking pictures Leon.

Looks like you guys had a good time esp meeting up with the AS.net crew...
Nice to put faces to names.
Sorry couldn't make it was up in London and ended up staying the night there...

No worries mate, maybe next time :)

Fastest RS4 I saw was a saloon and it ran a 13.8 (with 4WD) hehehe..

Shame we never raced. It would have been fun to hand you the silver platter. My best of the weekend was 0-60 in 4.06 and the 1/4 in 12.735. Looks like I win! 8th in class for both, not bad for a standard car.

You win what?

I didnt run my car all weekend..

Either way good job:applaus:

I wish I had done my runs now.

My best was 1/4 = 15.10 & 0-60 in 6.79. If you look at the video, it looks like an ok start and I snapped the gear changes.

Ive learned you need a chipped car to perform your best.

David

Are they any more spint meets like this one? & Do any on here attend.

4.06s in a standard RS4?

Yeah, not convinced by the optimistic timing gear either. Good for a comparison, but the accuracy is questionable. It was running mid 4's all weekend.

sod the times...what about that bint on the custom code stand with the bone crushing thighs...:hubbahubba:

Oh dear...
A mate of mine who was part of our group got a 5.73 0-60 and 14.498 1/4 in a Mk3 Golf VR6 with road tyres and a standard 2wd gearbox!
He also got a 5.89/14.534 1/4 on Saturday in the wet...earning him a class win.

I enjoyed the craic and the social side more than the show.
The show was a bit disapointing...apart from the sprint, which has already been mentioned.
It was good to meet new folks off the forum, and get the craic off all the old faces too.
I even got a class win for my efforts on Saturday.

I was there on sunday but was a little disappointed with the show. I don;t know if anyone here remebers the TRL days for it?

It was ok, not many trade stands, not many show cars, all in all the show's a shadow of it's former self.

As everyone else has said the sprint saved it. I spent most of my time stood watching that.

J.

You were leaving as I was arriving MB passed you on one of the country lanes.
The BMW really does look good on those CH's :)

Apologise for the bad haird on Sunday, I was wind / burn swept.

Anyways this trip has not done me any favours at ALL.

I now want to go to more meets with you lot hehehe and makes me want to buy new wheels and tuning.

Thanks Guys.....:applaus: :yellowrs4:

Wasn't that you going up and down the strip??? I noticed a few white S3s with black wheels so I thought you were running. You weren't parked at the JBS stand then?

Nooo, that was a standard looking S3, just had black S3 wheels. Mine was on the Forge stand..

Eesh, got to do more bits to my car to make it stand out a bit more :notme:

Well...good to meet a few new faces, thanks to Jo & Leon for having a run with me, did ok times for my standard car-5.7 \ 5.82 to 60 and 14.5 \14.67 quaters:blink: both reasonable similar times so hopefully accurate? Agree with leon with the gearchange, there is no way I would beat you to 60 lol, same maybe for David? hopefully get some more runs in at another event!!!
Show wise, have to agree with everyone, was a bit poor, Audi driver international is the best event on the calender for me...roll on october:cool::icon_thumright:

You can get respectable times out of a standard S3, look at Leon's run below, his first attempt at the strip as well. His car is standard... :)

Managed a run and popped my dragstrip cherry :racer:

5.84 and 1/4mile in 14.092.

See I'm not the only one that thought it was you :)

These white S3's with black wheels are just too common ;)

I dug out my plot last night after seeing the posted results.

The actual times were:

Changed into 3rd way too early and it looks like i took nearly half a second to do it

No mate, the engine has not been modified at all yet. I suppose looking at the times above I should be happy with 5.84 and 14.092 :racer:

I really did mess 2nd gear up tho, you can even see it on the plot!

That's pretty damn impressive - 0.4 seconds slower than a car with another 70bhp? How much time do you think was lost with the gear change?

Must of been a good half a second-I managed a 5.7 to 60 on the same run with Leon, & his car is miles quicker than mine:undwech:
The rolling start on the back lane was a good comparison as well...I got wollopped again lol!!!:haha:

Well looking at the plot I changed up to 3rd at around 4.5seconds and 53ish mph. The acceleration flats off for what looks to be around half a second at that point. :banghead:

I really wanted to do a few more runs but the ticket stand had closed :(

Agreed as above, the show is deteriorating - a bling fest with tacky stick on mods. A smaller scale this year too, with fewer exhibitors and too many PA systems with dancing music... Pah!

The stars of the show were the original black golf Mk1 GTI in the Sunday Show and Shine - original to the last detail - even the rear tyres! The Vulcan bomber museum (despite the 2 mile walk back to the the car park) and Marty's Mk3 VR6 with it's "Plastic glass" and S3 humbling times up the sprint. The boy did good to keep up with the 911, RS4 (4.2) and RS4 (2.7) on the way home too :)

As ever, its the evening banter in the pub that makes it all worthwhile :)

Details?????
Far enough in advance to try and get a good audi-sport attendance????
I'd be up for it

Still pretty impressive non the less

A couple of things spring to mind -

Audi look seem very honest with their own quoted performance times, Their site says 5.8 and most people usually assume this is after they've lunched a few cars trying to get a good figure

70-80 brake extra in tuning would seem to offer little benefit in 0-60 times, perhaps better in gear figures?

Hi Jamie...we normally get a really good attendance for this, cant remember the date off the top of my head but will look into it laters.
Last year Jojo organised the club stand, and it was a superb day...hoping he might be up for the same again...hint hint:icon_thumright::sign_plug:

If any of you boys fancy another go at the 1/4 mile soon. I am in the process of maybe sorting a shootout day at Pod towards the end of August for GTI v's S3 if any of you boys are up for it?
Will post something in the Events section if I get enough of you boys interested?
Ben.

Hey mate

Would be good to see the other pics :)

Was funny when your mate was suddenly hanging out of the car with a camera!!

Jonny

Here's another vid of Leon and Wes, and a couple of pics of Leon's car on the way down. I'll get the other pics up as soon as I get them off Matt.

I got a few vids, but the camera work is a little shoddy.

Sounds like your gear missing excuses aren't too far fetched. Must be that Zuffenhausen engineering being to accurate for you?
