.....know if they are working?
When i push the button (on the drivers door ) towards the 'heated mirror' symbol it springs back to the central position
is this correct? or does my model (2.0tdi 140 55plate) have this function?

or am i being a total ******** who doesn't know how to operate this? :uhm:

Would look in the manual but unable to find it at the moment :banghead:

Cheers

not sure dude, my 08 model has 3 positions, 2 for moving the relevant mirror and the third, which i leave it in, for heated, doesn't spring back anywhere

Thanks dsl 55 - yeah mine has the same 3 positions so do we assume they are on all the time?
just wondered with the weather being ***** today the mirrors had condensation on them and thought his function would clear them

Mine's like that too.
Seem to remember reading somewhere (not sure if it was in the manual) that the car decides when & how long to heat the mirrors for. I suppose it senses things like outside temperature, whether the wipers are or or not, etc.

Do you mean that when you push it forward to turn on the heated mirrors manually that it returns to the original position? If so then this is normal. It doesn't stick in the forward position until you turn them off. The car turns them off itself when it thinks they have defrosted.

Yeah - thanks for that

thanks for that Neil

AFAIK, The heated mirrors come on automatically depending on the outside temperature (can't remember what it is).
They also come on when the heated rear screen is switched on.
This only happens when the mirror control button is in the central position, pushing it towards the heated mirror symbol does nothing.

5 degrees or lower (i.e. when the frost symbol is on the DIS), however you can manually activate it by turning the dial to the centre position and pushing it forward. Says so in the manual.

It is possible that the exterior temperature can be above 5 degrees but your mirrors are still frosted up which is the reason for the manual control option.
