Hiya Guys,

I have the Audi ipod connector on my new A3, and it works well....however.
I set up the 5 playlists, and thats all fine...until you turn off the engine. You then start up again to go home, or start another journey and the song you were listening to continues, however it is now playing from Playlist 6 (which is everything). So if you want to go back to your original playlist, it starts it all from the beginning again.

Is this just how it is, or can anything be done to make it stay on the correct playlist?

Thanks in advance.

thats how it is... its sucks if you dont organise the hell outta your playlists...

My playlists are organised, but it doesnt help if it jumps to CD6 which is outside the playlists. Ggrrrrr

It sounds like it works the same as the iPod connection in my Golf.

I know it jumps to playlist 6 when you restart, as does mine, but mine continues to play the original playlist in order even though it says playlist 6. Are you sure yours doesn't do the same?

hmmmm. I will have to check the playlist order and check again.
Thanks for the pointer.

No worries.

Beware that different iPods seem to behave in different ways.

My original iPod nano is slightly easier to manage in the car than my full size iPod classic, as playlist 6 on the nano lets me play everything in artist alphabetical order. That way, if I have a particular artist I want to play that isn't on a playlist, I put playlist 6 on random, then skip songs until it gets to an artist close in the alphabet. Then I just take it off random then skip the few songs required to find the artist I want.

With my full size iPod classic, it doesn't seem to want to play in artist order, so it is less convenient to use in the car. It's better to disconnect the iPod, find what I want, then reconnect it. Of course that isn't ideal when I'm belting down a motorway!

That is interesting, especially as I just bought another 30Gb Ipod video just for in the car.
I will have a mess about with it over the weekend, so see how I get on.

If I was you I would get a DENSION GATEWAY 100 IPOD ADAPTER

I originally bought the genuine audi ipod cable, but after reading through the info leaflet realised that you have no control of the ipod, basically as you know it locks out the control wheel etc so you cant select a particular album.

Decided to go for the Dension Gateway 100, its the same idea as the Audi lead (around £100) but you can select one mode where you can still control the ipod (ie select artist then a song etc etc). It gives you a lot more control over what you listen to. You can still use the scroll wheel on the steerinn wheel to skip to the nest track etc

Of course the downside is that you have to have the iPod attached to your dashboard in some way and you have to remove and hide it away everytime you get out of the car.

You can either get the active cradle or the dock cable if you choose the dock cable the setup will be identical to the audi system.

Lol my Audi fit ipod adapter manages to flip playlists 5 & 1 around - confused the hell out of me until I worked out what it had done, it does it on my Gen 4 and on the gf's mini ipod.

Thanks for the posts guys, and thanks for the Denison info.
I will make best use possible of the Audi installed one I paid for, I just need to understand its quirks.

Its only minor really.
