Hey people, its been a while since i posted on here but my car was broken into last week so i thought i would post up. basically i parked up on tuesday night left for work on the wed morning, and as i do when i walk past checked if the car was locked which it was, i returned from work 3 hours later when passing my house to make a coffee when i realised that my passenger door was open, thought this was odd but checked the car and everything seemed normal so shut it up and locked it. didnt use the car till thursday night but when i got in and started it the boot warning light comes on so out i get to check the boot and right enough its open, i open it to find thet my subs have been stolen. now i know 100% that the car was locked but there were no signs of damage or forced entry into the vehicle i was just wondering if any1 else has had any issues with break ins without noticible way of entry. they must have somehow opened my car gone in through the passenger door, rolled the car forward to gain access to the boot as i park tight against my garage then opened the boot and removed the speakers. other thing i find odd but may have been done due to time is that they never took my amplifier or checked the glove box where i keep my sat nav and cd's. anyway ill stop spraffing now, basicaly has any1 else had problems with a break in where no signs of access have been left, or does any1 know how this could have been done, the car is getting a cliford g5 alarm fitted now but would still like to know how the hell they got in cheers, mark
 
Sorry to hear of your misfortune Mark.

Unfortunately there are too many scumbags out there who want what they cannot afford themselves and are happy to help themselves to other people's property. I'd cut their hands off like they do in the Middle-East, that would teach the thieving scummy ba$tards!!

Personally I have never heard of this happening to an A3 before. It's quite concerning!
 
yup - i was talking to a tow truck dude and he told me how it can be done without damage to the car. it is a method they use when somebody locks the keys in the car. the usual coat hanger down the top of the window doesn't work because of the dead-locks on the Audi so they have to use another method. You can't start the car to drive it off or unlock the steering wheel without the key, but you can gain access.

I won't post it for obvious reasons, but I'll drop you a PM with the details if another member can verify that you're a genuine poster and not some chancer looking to know how to break into an A3. No offence, but there was somebody on here before looking for information on alarms that looked a bit dodgy so it's best too err on the side of caution.

Must have been someone who knew you had speakers in the boot though and probably knew your work schedule. They've gone to a lot of trouble to get them too. were they expensive jobs?

No way to prevent it, but it does seem like a lot of hard work just to steal a set of speakers. Although, since you can't get into the boot without releasing the deadlocks it is the only way. Then again, I suppose you could always just get into the back and drop the seats.
 
hey marc, pm me about this issue so I can look at that, I'm intrigued to say the least how its done & worried, making me think long & hard now, especially after my wiring marathon these last 5 days, lol.

Anyway might do the bixenon adaptive mod next, just need the lights as kufatec do the looms, anyone got adaptive & bixenon, any good?

In this case I doubt your car was properly locked.... To be completely honest...

Otherwise like Marc said... too much trouble for some subs...

I have to agree, it couldnt have been locked as the method I now know of it wouldnt exactly go unnoticed someone using this way in, someone must have known what you had in there, your schedules maybe as to just take the subs & not check glovebox & other places is unheard of TBH, 1 of 1st places they look are gloveboxes & armrests, very strange indeed.
 
Now I think about it there was somebody on here before posting about thier car mysteriously unlocking itself from time to time.

I know on my father's old A4 he grabbed the rear drivers' side door handle as he walked away from it one day and it wasn't locked, but all the other doors and the boot were. He unlocked and locked it several times but each time that one door was not locked. I think it was a faulty locking mechanism in the end.

If this is the case, and your passenger door wasn't properly locked they could well have gained entry via that door and then did whatever they needed to do to liberate your speakers.

Still reckon it was somebody who knew you and your daily routine.
 
I do remember if the locking system detects a fault it does actually unlock itself immediately after you lock the car, I'm trying to rack my brains as to the circumstance why it did that, if I remember I will post, god all I can think about today is ground wire & pulse wires, lol.
 
Surely if the there is a problem with the locking system I would hope to think that there was some sort of indication to the owner that it has failed as this is a major issue, as we can see, resulting in theft.
I agree, should be like the middle east and chop there hands off!!!
As there are no door pins on the A3 im also intrigued as to how they can do it.

some1 could have a key as it has been into audi alot of times in the last year, and that would explain how they knew where i lived aswell. also i live in a pretty secure area and what would be the chances that on the off chance that the 1 time i leave the car unlocked when my parents were on holiday and i was at work that some1 would try the car. anyway could some please post that im a secure member as i am curious to know how they would have gotten in, i am now getting a clifford g5 alarm fitted so it should be pretty hard to get into now. cheers guys

Mine did an odd thing today - locked it as usual via the fob, went to the shops came back and its locked but both windows are down one inch ! Luckily nothing had been stolen or the alarm set off but no idea why its done it. Put the windows up - locked it and again ans it all ok. Any ideas ?

I posted earlier this year about my rear offside door seemingly blowing it's ECU - this results in the door locking mechanism reverting to a manual system.

Luckily the way it happened to me was that it was locked when the unit went however just thinking it had gone AWOL I opened the door from the inside - then locked the doors thinking everything was fine and left the car parked outside a colleagues house whilst on a business trip for a couple of days. Returned to the car and obviously found then that the door was not responding to the central locking (also no puddle lights etc). I say luckily as this could have gone unnoticed for some time and that it was locked when it went not the other way round.

Turns out that each door has a little rubber grommet that you pull out - you can then use your key to set the door to locked and then close the door - it can only then be opened from the interior - no deadlock but better than leaving it unlocked if this happens to you.

Did you lock it by holding the lock button down to close all the windows? Ive had this happen in that scenario where the window detects too much resistance, thinks its someones arm in the way, and reverses by an inch

NO it was a single press - sunroof was the only thing that was open before - closed that and then switched the car off.
Odd but it not done it again !

Don't know if this helps but my manual (p.15 Nov 07) says you can check via the left hand button in the instrument cluster

"You can display the number of keys registered for the vehicle by briefly pulling the button => page 14, fig. 7 twice with the ignition switched on"

Haven't tried it because it's p155ing down at the mo.

Not sure what help that is except if you find you have 2 keys and 3 are registered presumably you can have the two in your hand reprogrammed so the 3rd which you don't won't work any more. Guess that would cost but less £s than a breakin and if the car is Approved Used you may get the dealer to cough

Wonder if the Approved Used check includes this one??!!

I'll check in the morning and see if it works on mine: mind you the manual also says I can enable an extra wipe on the wash / wipe. Aparently it's no longer available
 
I have the 'number of keys' feature on my 08 A3 its in a menu in the DIS, its in the same menu list as the one where you can check oil temperature, mine says 'keys 2/2'

interesting - surely its just software though, couldn't the dealers flash the new software in so you had these features? I'd like the digital speedo in the DIS enabling
 
I assume they can just flash it to a newer version. Anybody had this done?

The information is already in the ECU. All you are doing with the new firmware is telling the DIS how to interpret the data.
 
hmm... now I am confused. left hand button just gets involved in setting the time, right hand button one pull says 'oil 12800' two pulls says 'P\2'

Not sure but it's wet and horrible here so I'll sit down with the manual in the car when it's dry
