I've often wondered where some of your usernames have come from.

Obviously some are nicknames or car model names, registration numbers, and even one football club. The less adventurous of us just stick to our real names - like me - but there are some others which must have a story behind them.

Anyone care to provide the explain where their name came from or what they mean?

Maybe I'm just bored because it has been a relatively quiet day on the forum, but I thought this would get a few lively responses...

Long time ago when I started using car forums I was sat registering on alfaowner.com I think it was and couldn't think of anything, so I looked down at the T shirt I was wearing which happened to be a Diesel Style Lab DSL55 logo shirt, so I used that and stuck with it ever since! :lazy:

edit: sorry, not exactly exciting, should have made something up in hindsight!

Well I'm in the market to change mine anyway as Olly has said he would, so suggestions (polite ones)

I always did think nigel was a bit of a dull name.... how about derekhobden or clivehobden?

Just kidding obviously.... since you've been up to your armpits in wiring for the past few weeks you could change it to something related - Sparky or Tesla or some other variation on the theme.

How about Lightning McQueen.... you could use this as your avatar:

I've been using mine for years, when I was working at P&O one of the girls there thought it would be funny to semd me some interesting emails. I worked in IT so it was quite easy to trace where they came from.

I made up an email account marriedblonde and sent some, err, interesting emails back. It's stuck ever since.

As you can imagine I get some interesting PM's and email's because of it...

I'm a bit of an Alien geek and started using mine a few years back as a user name on the net.

Every site I visit, I use it. That's it.

I'm a Highwayman...:gun2:! Used to be **** Turpin on Scoobynet some years ago, but when I got my Fiat Coupe, their excellent forum wouldn't let me use that, so I switched. Now I have the numberplate to go with it .

err very boring but my name - dont have to keep rembering different username for diffeent forums !

Richard

well, being wary of putting my personal details online, wanted a very random e-mail address, giblets was a random word that came to mind, but seriously 46 people beat me to it, 45 of them settled for a random number too!

I'm boring... and Unoriginal. When I first started on t'internet, I used my initials. Although admittedly as I'm not so keen on my middle name, I made the K insignificant.

And so CkB was born. And never left. I've had some odd ones in between but in the end it's just good ol' ck!

C

PS - it wasn't until I escaped my teens that people stopped asking me if it was cos of Calvin Klein's scent... :faint:

My first name is Terry so I picked up 'Nutkins' as a nick name. After Terry Nutkins from the Really Wild Show (for those that remember it!)

I just couldnt think of anything when I registered, so after feeling an headache might be coming up, I spotted the package of chewing gum that was on my desk: BINGO :) Added my year of birth too...Weird I know :)

bacardi - from bacardi breezers, nick name from many years ago, something about girls liking them........... not sure why.

other one is pub daddy, something about frequenting too many alcohol dispensing establishments

Mine's my nickname... My surname is Bedford which got me the nickname 'Beddie' at school, it's stuck ever since... :)

My nieces only know me as beddie, and refuse to believe they have an uncle Steve lol! :)

Well, my username is a bit of an evolution story, lol.

My real name is Stewart, and at school, I had the nickname Stuman. Then I went to Uni, and one drunken night decided it would be a good idea to let some bird shave Stu into my chest hair. She got a little carried away though, with a massive S leaving only room for the remaining 2, hence s2man.

So, when signing up for the internet for the first time, i tried to use this for an email address. Alas it was already taken with my ISP, so simply put an X in front to make xs2man.

I quite like it to be honest (until I google it of course :(), its different, and when I do occasionally DJ, it makes for a cool DJ name aswell. Also, at my second spin at uni, it was reduced to XS which was nice. As I do almost everything to excess as it is (drink, smoke, speed etc...)

Of course, it leaves a problem with regards to private plates though on account of MAN being reserved for the IoM. Booooooo. So S2 !!! will have to do instead.

:blahblah1:Phil Barber was a fairly successful midfielder for Crystal Palace FC in the eighties. My real name is Adrian C********. I am not his hairstylist either.

A few years ago I tried Star Wars Galaxies (the PC MMO) for a few months and came up with Orothon as a suitably 'alien' sounding name. Since then I've always used it as usernames too.

Mine is a case of just wanting to hurry and register and thus putting no thought or imagination whatsoever into my username:

Paul Nicholas Hancock. Born 1980 = PNH80

Sorry!

N8KOW my private plate. One of.

Nathan = Nate = N8
Kowalski = KOW

:tocktock:

Kowalski?
Cool name...
Brings back memories of a white Dodge Challenger being driven by a man with big hair and an amazingly cool pair of Aviators! (Vanishing Point)

My user name is boring...I was thinking of buying one at the time..and S3 seemed a bit short and boring.
It's stuck ever since..now used on all Forums.

What can I say, I love the smell.

Mine has been with me ten years now, gaming and forums, I kept it because it reminds me of why I should never go back, probably make no sense to anyone but it does to me so nur.

cos it's possibly one of the funniest films ever.

I actually googled your nickname some time ago. Because i thought, who the hell is this Ron Burgundy? Ive never heard of him! :p

My User name was borne out of not being able to select my real name "Leon".

Bubble bubble, cough cough. :)

Mine was given to me from a stint I enjoyed in a Texas lock-up for bringing 'contraband' into the States when I was over there a few years back and pretty much point blank refusing to part with it, causing a bt of a commotion and lots of bue lights and fat men shouting.... After a lot of talking and sobering up / coming round again it was all robbed off me and we were sent packing. It was one hell of a tour tho.

Edit: I could add the c changed to a 'k' because of my surname.
