Following on from the threads for the new DRL and sidelight bulbs that Jon (AKA -Redbutcher) has pulled together. I decided to get rid of the fried egg look on all my indicator lights.
So, ordered the front and rear bulbs from here http://www.powerbulbs.com/product_detail.asp?prod=69
Just fitted them, and they don't make it easy any more!
Rear first:
The light units are held in with a plastic screw. In order to get to the screw you have to remove a plastic disk that covers the hole. Pop this out, then use a screw driver to remove the plastic securing screw.
Once you've done this the light unit is free to be removed, but it doesn't come away easily, as the unit is also held by two studs held in rubber seals where the light meets the rear quarter panel. Took me a while to get the unit free, but when you've done it once it becomes easy. My advice would be to pull the unit out from the tailgate side, then work your hand along the gap at the top and work the top stud out, repeat again on the bottom of the unit and it will eventually pop free.
Un-clip the wires, then pop of the bulb cage. Change bulbs, reattach the wires and then check the bulb works before putting it all back in.
All OK, clip the lens back in, guide the unit back on to the body making sure the studs slip in to the rubber holders. Screw it all back together.
Repeat on the other side.
When putting all the plastic disks back over the hole to the release screw be careful to get them lined up correctly. I had a 'moment' where the disk fell through. It's not the end of the world if this happens, you simply need to lift up the boot floor, take out the spare, then the polystyrene bits holding the jack etc etc is in 3 pieces, take out the right hand side first and you can move the rest to get access to anything that fell behind!
For the fronts, many have said you need to undo the inner wheel arch liner to get to them. Well, I'm 6'2" so don't have small hands and skinny arms and managed to get my hand to the back of the indicator carrier without doing this.
Simply remove the electrics plug from then light unit, slide your hand through (it is a squeeze!), turn and release the indicator carrier, replace the bulb and re-attach.
Side repeaters - the lens is held in on a loaded spring, simply push the lens against the spring to release. Bulb simply pulls out and new one pops straight in.

All in, this took me about 35mins and I'm really pleased with the look. It all looks much cleaner than standard and is a worthy mod in my book.
