I've just been reading about the new 1.8TFSI engine being available in 120ps guise. While this is a new engine (and I'm sure much cleaner/'greener' than older engines) I've noticed the following...

The 1995-2000 A4 had a 125ps naturally aspirated 1.8

Audi have just introduced a 125ps 1.4TFSI (VW have put this into the new Passat)

Surely this makes a 120ps 1.8 Turbo seem somewhat redundant?

Any comments?

I seriously wouldn't consider the 120ps, especially since the B8 is a bigger car and the fact that most diesels these days are actually just as quick , if not quicker than mine on the run. Does make you wonder why they haven't introduced the 1.4T yet...maybe it is cost.

It's amazing how the FSi technology is Audi, and yet VW roll it out first. Golf GTI for example.

Some people just won't want a diesel no matter how good they get.

Also I believe that the B8 is significantly lighter than the B6/7 so performance is probably better than the old 130bhp 2.0

That is interesting because I am hoping next year to go for the B8 2.0T avant

I do think it would be nice to see either the new 2.8fsi or 3.6fsi in the A4 range as there's only one V6 petrol model available now. Turbos are all well and good but BMW have the 325i and 330i straight sixes.

Its all about the image of the A4, sure the 1.8T 120ps produces less power than the 1.4T but how silly would it look to have a 1.4 badge on a 'luxury executive car' like the A4? Audi rather detune the 1.8T to 120ps and stick it on the low end A4 to keep it's upclass image as at the end of the day people will only see its a 1.8T from the badge and wouldnt guess it only kicks out 120ps unless you really in the know about Audi's.

V6 would be nice, but I am concerned about the cost of insurance and mpg. My only concern with the 2.0T is that something will replace it soon. But at the end of the day, if it is slightly quicker than my 1.8T and is not too much more expensive, I will be happy.

I think the 2.0T will be around for a good while. Look how long they kept the old 20valve 1.8 around for.

The A4 wil also get a NEW 2.0T (211 bhp) so that'll probably be around for some time to come.

If they can combine it with the new 7 speed DSG and Quattro that would be awesome! If only I had some more money.......

If I remember correctly (read it somewhere but can't remember where), here in the Netherlands it should be available Q4 2008.

Cheers...According to the main dealer here, it is already out, although I haven't seen any literature to prove this. 211bhp and 43mpg!

The 2.0T is available now in Holland. There are two versions. 180bhp and 211bhp. Unfortunately it is not available with DSG only manual or Multitronic.
