Induction kit....worth it??

nice noise but as above.
search on vortex for a smoothed airbox and ram pipe, much better value and worth it

Ive searched vortex but all that comes up is a jazz club in london! Is that the company name or model?...........

Right, i've looked on there and cant see nothing. Can someone PLEASE tell me exactly what i need! I need everything simplified lol

i got a bmc forced air kit. fits perfect and i fed the cold feed pipe to fodlight grill and front of car. sound mint and seemed a bit quicker of throttle pick up. not had bhp check but im happy looks good sounds good. i onestly think you will never get a huge increase from a induction kit. just my opinion though

I'm not really after any more power, although i wouldn't complain, would just like it for the sound really. Where can i find one of these mr audi turbo?

i have fitted a simple cone filter. removed the standerd box, made some holes in the wheel arch liner, re-located horn to the bolt hole the old air box bolted to, ran a big **** induction pipe down to the vent were the spot lights are. to get round the hot air being sucked in, i removed the heat-shield that was attached to the standerd air box, reshaped it so it kinda curved round the cone filter (leaving about a 2" gap between filter and H/sheild) and i now have a nice filthy sounding spooling sound, hissisng when the boost gets up and a nice medium volume flutter when i change gear!! works fine, sounds good, looks pretty cool too!! ill bang a pic up later!

Just be careful running filters with an oil in them, can ****** up your MAF over time pretty quick. I run an AEM dryflow filter.

yeh this is a dry filter... i made that mistake on my mondeo!!

cheers for the warning tho :)

Sounds perfect mate..what filter you running? Tempted towards a pipercross

Pipercross is oiled IIRC
Apexi as mentioned is dry and pretty sure AEM are too, you can buy just the filter on its own, popular with jap cars

cost £25 from my local autostores. only difference is my 1 is silver not red.

Imo it sounds no different to any other filter.

:scared2: i will now bow my head and wait for the many lashings across the neck!

my iduction pipe is 5" in circumference.

I've been running this filter for over 2.5 years now with no problems....:yahoo:

no real heat shield will see your intake temp rocket when you slow down or stop on the above set up.
I ran a similar filter and the mesh came away from the housing, v. disappointing.
great noise though.
I housed mine in a large converted Stella Artois aluminium keg. worked a charm

I've ran this filter for over 2.5 years without problem, wether i go slow, stop or put my foot down it's been excellent in all weather and temps not noticed any draw backs from temps getting too high.......I agree, the noise is top though.....It's the K&N 57i induction kit......

It would be good to see your converted keg if you have any pics....

K+N WET FILTERS CAN CLOG MAF UP WITH OIL................BUT THEN AGAIN IM RUNNING BMC WHICH I BELIEVE ARE WET TO.................................... IM RISKING IT BECAUSE THE SOUND AND LOOKS ARE UNREAL!!!!!!!

posted it on here and got the **** taken out of it. will try to dig it out

Yep your right about cloggin up the MAF, only if you OVER oil your filter though. Not had to change one in over 2.5 years so far(touch wood)....Gotta agree with you on the sound, it's wicked.....:arco:

Exactly what i'm after........NOISE! Always wanted an induction kit but couldn't on my last few cars because they've been mk2 golf gti's, the 16v K-jetronic engines couldn't have ind kits

i think i will have to have a play with my airbox, my car is so unassuming i forget its running, soooo quiet

how are these cone filters mounted? may be a stupid question! are they universal ones that just jubilee clip on or are they specific ones with adaptor plates

No question is stupid if you dont know the answer....chapter 3 verse 1....lol...

Mines mounted with a metal plate/hanger that bolts to the body of the car. If you look at the front of my filter towards the wing you'll see a couple switches/connectors that used to sit on top of my OEM filter . I had to mount them on a metal plate/hanger aswell and that bolted on to the inside of the wing. I got everything i needed and fitting instructions with the kit.

The kit is specific to your make and model of car. IE: mine wouldn't fit a standard A4 but it would fit a B5 RS4 as we have the same engine/layout......You might be able to get universal kits though???

mine is just a jubalie clip holfing it on with a little rubber O ring for that extra seel. as for the filter its self it just sits on top of the induction pipe quite snug. cant say its ever moved. if your going for 1 tho, make sure you deffo heat sheild it. (on a 1.8t) anyhow as its slap bang next to the turbo and cat. burnies! i used the standers sheild off the air box and it works a treat, filter is cold to the touch when the engine is hot enough to cook on!
