Warning, Warning, Warning:
Having decided to change my November 2005 A4 Avant 2.0T SE I was in for a shock, despite having 5 months warranty left, only 18500 miles and completely immaculate the best offer was £11.5K with a couple of places refusing to take it at all as a PX. The “book” price is around £13.5K but the “trade” say it’s making about 2.0K less than book.
They say as it’s an estate it needs to be diesel, needs leather, satnav, parking sensors and as a 2.0T needs quattro drive, needless to say I was not happy.
I purchased a Audi as I assumed it would be desirable at 3 years old and easy to sell on, how wrong! or maybe I just chose the wrong model…….

That does seem a bit harsh! I can sort of understand where they are coming from with regards to the spec though I'm afraid.

Whats the spec on yours?

Glad I have a B6 2.5 TDi Quattro Sport Avant with Leather, Sat Nav, Parking Sensors, etc.....mind you, I always buy from Main Stealer, and then 2 or 3 years later sell privately via Auto Trader or recently E-bay....at least I only get shafted when I buy...

Whats teh 2.5 like? Just spotted one on autotrader that i think i'm going to go look at

I really like the 2.5TDi B6, its a great drive especially on a motorway. Handling of the Quattro Avant is good, but not as good as a 3 litre BMW 3 series in the dry....it needs the RS4 anti roll bar....
Bad points are 35mpg on average (41 on a run), £500 to change the cambelt (what a brilliantly sh*t design Audi), and £300 to tax it next year. If you get a quattro version (180HP) then it will wear out all 4 tyres at the same rate.

But its fab !

Its great round towns...the quattro does hold the road really well, and is mega sure footed in the wet.....it goes well, 1st & 2nd gear are a bit lifeless, but in 3rd and above it flies....
My mates cannot believe its a diesel ..its very quiet..(with the windows shut)....obviously with the windows open you do get a bit of diesel rattle....

Go and test drive one.....if its got more than 80K on it check for the cambelt change....look for one with as much kit as possible....the SE version gives a more supple ride....sport version I prefer with a harder ride...

I agree, I have a 2003 2.5TDi Quattro with the 6 speed manual and i love it. It has over 120k but still runs sweet as when it was new - the 6 cylinder diesel is so smooth and has a lovely V6 growl to it! Economy wise I average 32mpg but don't do that many long runs and we have no motorways in Dorset (!) and I do drive it pretty hard. 40mpg is quite achievable on say a 2 hour motorway drive if your sensible.

If economy is your thing then I would go for the 1.9 as it's far superior. But personally the V6 growl combined with that shove of torque does it for me everytime :o.k:

I agree with the gearbox, first is useless and second runs out pretty quick, o-60 is nothing special due to the gearing, but A road overtaking in fourth gear from 50 to 70 is very impressive :hi:

Whats the details of the one you are going to look at?

Why are you changing it?
as you have not done a lot of miles in it and it still is fairly new, just keep it and save yourself loads of money

As you correctly say it does seem odd changing such a new low mileage car, however we have a Touran for family use and the Audi really is not used much now so thought I would change it for something less practicle perhaps an A4 Cabriolet.
Just wanted to warn anybody considering an A4 to carefully look at the engine choice and spec, it seems SE spec and 2.0T is not wanted.

I have been gently offering my car around - to Fontains and local stealer's buyer - neither even bothered to return the call. A4 Avant 2.0TDi Multitronic S-Line leather sat nav and lots more - 2006 36K miles. I too thought this was a desirable model.........looks like I won't be opting for a lease car and will keep it after all

Do You have a figure in mind for Your car ? Ive recently bought a simmilar car But its a manuel transmission And I realy do like an auto !!

the a4 does seem to be coming down in value, there are lots available now, I think huntingdon audi have around 10 A4 sline autos all with around 10k and 2007 models, all courtesy of avis I think and at £17995... if only they were that price when I went looking !

My local stealership that i got my car from told me that it was worth no more then £20k the weekend!
December 2007, A4 Avant 2.0TDi Quattro 170 S Line Special Edition – Lava Grey done 7k miles
Nav, Xenons, Bose, Heat seats - Loads of extras.
Cost new £32500 – 7 months old £20K

:scared2:

ouch, £12500 in 7 months isn't good. You would have lost less on a Renault ! still i've been toying with the idea of an A4 3.0TDi as they start around £16500 for a nice low mileage car.

Hey Keef...
Keep it another 2 years ...thats when I will be changing my 2.5TDi Quattro Sport......could be interested !

Guys, dealers will give you the lowest price of all! they have to clean it, tax it, MOT it, Service it and put a warrenty on it before they can sell it and make some money. Keef your car will go back on sale for at least 26k. If you want the best money sell private and buy a nearly new A4 private rather than Dealers Prices.

Sorry harsh reality but true.

dealers never usually tax cars and only MOT it if its close to needing one, the whole PDi thing wouldn't cost anymore than £500

I think you have to shop around, just part exed out 55 plate Oct 05 2.0T quattro Sline Avant, 20k miles, not many options other than sat nav and cd changer, leather/alcantara. Offers ranged from £11,500 and we ended up getting £14250 for it.
