To the Guy in the Black S3...

What your describing there is a barryboy chariot to rival the Focus ST. FWIW i wouldnt be interested in that. I like the understated S3.

The new RS6... Exhaust both sides (purely for aesthetics and sporting presence), tastefully flared arches etc....£77K barryboy charriot? Hmm. Same applies to the M3. Both PROPER full on performance prestige cars but still say they mean business through the styling which sets them apart from less performance orientated models. It is possible to be understated in an aggressive manner. Just takes some good design work!
I'm not knocking the S3 or saying they should change it at all....I'm saying it should not be topping the A3 range, they should have introduced an RS3 thats all.... and Audi have made a bit of a balls up with the badging of various models.
Anyway you say you like the understated S3 but....Isn't your WHITE?....Didn't go for Dolphin Grey did you! Just saying!

Agree with newbiecrg that the best thing for the S3 would be to go on a diet - if they could knock the weight back to 1300kg or less the benefits in performance, agility and also economy would be really worthwhile. Combined with the magnetic dampers and perhaps a mild power hike I think it would tick most of the boxes I look for in a car without spending £50k+.

I actually like the fact that the S3 is understated and isn't a 'look at me' car, although you do tend to get a few knowing glances from people who know a bit more about cars.

Exactly  The people who know, know. And I suppose white is a loud colour, it does attract a lot of glances, but i prefer that to outlandish styling. Take the TDi clubsport on the mainpage for example. That seems to fit the bill on what you are describing Dave, but it just doesnt do it for me, thats is my humble opinion of course..

Maybe teh RS3 should be here, and should look like that, but i for one would stick with an S3.

I don't think any of us are " slaggin off " the 8P S3 thats why we paid a hell of a lot of money for it.....we love it ( well i love mine )

As we know , we can get 350bhp out of this car just by a better map, intake , and exhaust so the power is there.

I think it'll be 6 years minimum from 8P S3 launch to the new chassis S3 , others cars would have moved on and cought up.

We have already seen what people thought was the RS3 at the Ring , it didn't look a million miles away from the S3 , just a bit more focused and agressive looking.

I just think Audi bottled it a bit with the 8P range topper , by not giving it the power/looks a S/RS car should have in this day and age.

The new facelift S3 looks a bit more aggressive to me in the press pics, apparently they have restyled arches too which one review said were more flared but I'll hold judgement on the flared arch till I get mine in September!
