Creeking noise from front

When I pull away from the start there is a creeking noise from the front.
I have been told by a mechanic that the joint on the bottom of the steering coloum
needs changing, after he wiggled the steering wheel.
Any one had this part changed?any help please?

Never heard of one wearing out tbh, more likely a worn arm bush creaking, they are known for it

I had a similar problem as you once....I was told the same thing and it would cost approx £675 because i need a whole new column . So i took the plunge and took it in to the Stealers for a second opinion....They greased up all joints etc, and i never had the problem again......As Byzan said cheeck your arms/bushes first, common thing....

can anyone recomend the best place to buy lower arms,
I have purcahsed one for each side which are the large arm that the front strut ans link arms fit onto.
I need to buy the curved ones now for left and right side.

The one at the bottom of the steering column. For my car i was told that you cant buy the bit/joint at the bottom of column seperately, you have to have a whole new steering column. Another money maker from Audi.....
