Lorry fuel price demo hits roads

they arent campaigning for us... only for themselves... as they are after the 20p rebate for essential service (like the busses)

Good luck to them, else we may as well start shipping on the canals again!

It's a start in the right direction, we motorists will follow suit when we start to see it has worked for the truckers.

Yep, good luck to them............ Sadly it won't change f*ck all. That will require a prolonged campaign by the mass media, (such is their power, again sadly) not just a hyped up sob story.......!!

The Radio 1 news yesterday at 5.45 had a story about more & more people using red diesel in cars, they interviewed some bloke on who had a BMW 330d saying how he's been using red diesel for a while now and that should he be caught the fine he'd be given would still be less that the amount he's saved since he started using the stuff, and he had no regrets as it was a victimless crime.

Cant condone breaking the law but see his point, can only imagine this will increase. At the end of the day its only the tax man who loses out a little bit & who gives a **** if he loses out of a few quid revenue, it'd only be spent on a new kitchen or a rug for some MP's flat in London which only gets used by said MP to hump prossies!!!

Or rent boys by the looks of some of them.

On Radio 2 today they were discussing people stealing fuel from lorries and heating oil tanks and in the Daily Mail there was a story about a petrol station that makes its own Bio-Diesel and sells it for 92.5p a litre, they have had to reduce their opening hours due to being swamped by customers.

Also in my local rag they finally did a story on how the people of this doghole of a town that I live in seem to pay more than the rest of the country (average £1.30p a litre for diesel). I drive all around the country and have only seen one place beat us for diesel and that was in the back of beyond at some independant Garage.

Last week on the Jeremy Vine show there was a very interesting talk about how capacity around the world for Refining is very low and hasnt had proper investment for quite some time, also in places such as the Middle East and **** demand for fuel has risen as peoples quality of life improves and they swap to cars frrom bikes. You would of thought that being an island with pretty good transportation links to Europe we would build a couple on the south coast?

I wish the Government would have the balls to look at what money they spend and who they give it out to, rather than just taxing to the hilt people trying to work and get along in life...

Also do Farmers still get paid to leave land and not use it? Surely growing either food like corn (Bread Price Rises) or something that could be turned into Bio Fuel would be a much better idea?

Farms are apparently also being targeted to have their red diesel nicked as they normally have storage containers of the stuff! And yes farmers are subsidised to leave land fallow, this was designed to stop them using so much fertiliser, pesticides & insecticides which was ruining the land & running off into streams & rivers ruining the water ways. If they start growing crops to make bio-diesel they'll no doubt end up using chemicals again to maximise theirs returns and kill all the tadpoles again so a balance needs to be struck i guess, an idea worth investigating though.

Yeah as said above set aside is designed to let the area of land regenerate and recover from farming use, and let the animals etc which would normally live there come back and have a chance of reinhabiting the area, which is only fair really lol.

The governments tax on fuel should be a set amount, and not based on a percentage, the only way to make it a bit fairer on us, never gonna happen

You've some good points here unkle that f--king idiot brown and darling were in Scotland this week trying to get the oil producers to pump more oil, perhaps they would be if brown when he was chancellor hadn't doubled the tax 2 years ago on the oil they were pumping from the north sea.

Brown doesn't really want the price of oil to come down too much as its the revenue he's grabbing from the tax take thats keeping this country from imploding.

Even if the oil majors could pump more oil how are they going to refine it as the refineries are running at near capacity now.In 1975 there were 17 refineries now there are 12.

Witness the panic a few weeks ago in Scotland and Northern England when 1 refinery in Scotland shut down for a few days because of a strike.

Just more pointless show boating by a useless government.

I know a few who use red diesel and fairplay to them,**** the goverment.

Whilst I sympathise with Them Why should the rebate only be for trucks ?? Running My fleet of transit vans is crippling us !! 3 weeks ago £72 to fill 2 weeks ago £78 to fill Yesterday was £82 !!! We cannot increase our prices cos We simply wont get the work !!! For Me at least its only a temporary thing cos Im retiring early at the end of this year Cos trading in these politcaly correct times with all the overheads is simply not worth the effort any more !!

BTW Im in construction .

I agree with you everyone should get a reduction in fuel duty.
At least if the truckers got some sort of meaningful(25p per litre)reduction it would be a start, it would also help reduce inflation which is rearing its ugly head again therefore giving the BOE a chance to reduce interest rates.

I say scrap road tax and lower VAT on fuel. leave duty as it is, VAT can be claimped back by companies as it it so they already get a rebate on the fuel.

Slap a £50 entry fee on all foreign registered cars and trucks entering the country.

Then give them a rebate, they buy fuel here which contributes to our roads and then they get some/all of that £50 back, that way the sly gits using foreign registered trucks (dont blame them) have to pay and the foreign holiday makers dont get ripped off as they are bound to buy fuel while they are over here...
