Armrest fit - cutting template needed!

Hey guys!

Just got my armrest from Germany, bought on ebay. I've got everything except the cutting template. Is there anyone that got this piece of paper? Maybe take a picture of it and write the meassures in some way here on the forum so we can make our own template? .. Or just take a picture of your "hole" (haha) and give us the meassures? .. pleeeease.

Check the box again. I nearly threw mine away because it looked like part of the packaging.
 
okey, I'll check again.. But I'm almost sure I won't find anything, checked carefully yesterday.
 
As I thought, no template was included.. checked it again :(
 
Best bet, draw around it on another bit of cardboard, and post it to marcel and co
 
I'd really appreciate if someone could help getting this template!

Got this pics from the seller today.. they explain a little bit, but I'm not sure I just wanna go wild and cut my console without any template at all!

That is roughly where it goes.

I couldn't find the template last night. I had my mate round when I was fitting the armrest into his girlfriend's car, so he may have inadvertenly dumped it with the rubbish.

I'll be taking my armrest off on Saturday in order to remove the console and fit my RS4 start button. If you can wait until next week I will get the exact measurements of where the hole goes then - i.e. 30mm from drinks tray, 20mm from left, 20mm from right, 40mm from ashtray.

You can always make the hole smaller than it needs to be and then file it to make it bigger.

The instructions say you should drill 4 pilot holes in the corners and then use a saw to join the dots, but I used the drill to drill holes every few millimeters around the line i had marked out and then drilled holes between the gaps and the piece just fell out. I then used a file to tidy up the edges.
 
I will have a look in my garage when I get home and I could possibly draw you up a CAD drawing and send it to you as a PDF and you can make your own??
 
But guys really you dont need a template for that, its self insanitory if you look at the armrest, bracket on car & then the console, its a simple cut out job so the armrest can lower onto the bracket, sounds like making it a hard job to me fella's.

Not being a big head or know it all but I've fitted 3 armrests & they all required the same fitting, it is fairly obvious where you have to cut.

I never had a template with my kits from Audi, then again never needed one.

Just measure bottom of the armrest that covers the console when in place, mask it up, dremel cut a rectangle/square out of the console little smaller than the bottom of the armrest so you dont see the cut lines, shove down hole & bolt it on, easy peasy, covers the whole perfectly & no unsightly cut lines, oh dont forget to remove your masking tape when bolting or you'll be ****** you have to undo/do up again, lol, lol.
 
Well that's mine fitted today anyway.

Very easy, I just used my eye to determine where to cut and went with gut instinct...

Thankfully everything in place and no unsightly holes anywhere.

The hardest part was bolting the screw to the bottom as there is very little room to work.
 
Okey, I did it - with my own home made template!

I took the rubber-ring thats attached in the bottom of the armrest plastic and drew one my self on a paper. Drew some lines around the template on the middle console and drilled holes in each corner. After that I cut out the peace of plastic with my small saw-blade about 4-5 millimeters inside the lines. I thought the hole should get too small (was prepared to file it larger) but it was never a problem. Then just put down the metal leg of the armrest and fastened it with the bolt included:

Easy!

I ****** hate the move up/down mechanism of the armrests we have to get to the actual position we are comfortable with, stupid idea.

I was thinking about my S3 & my recent S4 B6, they both had the quick release buttons on the front of the armrests that I fitted, took me literally months to find them particular armrests as audi etka was useless even my ever so resourceful parts guy couldnt find it until I found them on fleabay, knew it was good for something, lol, the S4 one actually had phone prep inside but I was happy to just have the button to lower as its only for my arm to lean on anyway, chucked receipts inside etc.

Anyway I was thinking, I'm sure the A4/S4 B6/B7 have the same armrest fittings on the bottom, the single bolt as the current A3 no?

What I need to know is, are the alum brackets on the bottom of the armrest that come already fitted any longer on the B6/B7 than the current A3, cause if not I was gonna try a retro of one of them so I can get my quick release button back, if they are longer then I am sure I can figure how to cut & join them so they will fit, maybe some welding required or a surrounding metal tube/bracket to fix the 2 parts together, as the B6/B7 armrests arent that much longer so should still fit ok.

Any ideas people on if they are the same length/fixing?

I'll also post on A4 area.
