BMW 335d Msport to S3 S Tronic......

LOL...so what does it say about the chap down my way in an S3 that has S3, Revo and a whole load of other decals on the side of his car?

To me it screams he is a nob.

Also the bell end that felt the need to put a shiny silver sticker in the rear window of his 3 series convertable that says convertable....

Perhaps they optional decals people put on are because they are stupid and need to be reminded them of what they drive?

Yeah I completely agree! ahahah should I put a big sticker on the rear screen saying S3? ahahah

Pedro

I don't have decals.:haha:

I know, but that doesnt answer my original question, the Difference of the type of person that would choose to have the D3 alpina over a standard 3 series saloon. I think you know where im going.

Anyway, just incase the passers by didnt notice the go faster decals on the side, they put some on the front too, theres probably a big emblem on the back too but i didnt bother looking, could be wrong though:

Does your valance say alpina on it??

@MarriedBlonde: anybody who puts any kind of stickers on their car stating what car it is, what type of fuel filter it has, what kind of stereo, engine size, brakes, wheels, OR anything of that nature, is a complete bellend in my view. Whatever the car.

Its just not required!

The only decal allowed is AS.net!!

Thats Leons law

I do like Alpina's but you've got to admit that to the average joe it doesn't really stand out as being very different to a 3 series! And they, my friend, are as common on the road as mondeos. They make S-line A3's look rare!

You can't disappoint me though, Pedro, because your assumption completely goes against what I've experienced.
People seem to instantly note it as being different from a normal 3 series.
I've never had a car generate so much interest.
That doesn't mean I'm saying it's something hugely 'special', I'm just saying I've not had a car generate so much interest before.

I am not trying to disapoint you at all bowfer.... It is your choice, your monies, your car!!

I am just saying that the premises you stated, for me, don't really stand. Disapointment apart your car is just a 3-series, like mine is an A3. No way around it.

If it generates more interest or not doesn't matter, mine also turns some heads as it is a slightly different A3 with different wheels and the badge does say something odd like S3, the front calipers do state S3 as well... but it is an A3 for most people. People not really interested in cars and that use a car just because they need it which is 80% of the population... (or more)

Sure I would and I do appreciate an Alpina for what is is and I can spot all the differences but for the John Public it is a 3 series maybe with some sporty options and some would even go further to say it was a modded 3 series and not realizing Alpina is actually a manufacturer...

Bowfer, you have a nice motor mate, enjoy it. But still a BMW no matter what tweaks or badges it holds...

Pedro

Thats probably because they are scared you'll hit em if they dont!! :)

Rofl Bowfer, reading your post again. You make it appear like all your colleagues go out on thier tea break , standing around it, a bit like the chavs in my asda car park. Commenting on what a lovely car it is and "You wouldnt think its a diesel" etc :)

I dont think something the size of a range rover, sport or not, is classy. Nice, perhaps, safe, maybe. Classy? Hmmm.

Is something like a maybach classy? I'd say no.

Is a premium car classier than it's main stream rival?

J.

I actually saw the new Mercedes 4X4 yesterday...Not the ML...The MASSIVE one. Can't remember what it's called? It's not a good looking car at all but it does have a certain 'class' and look of quality and engineered solidarity about it.... It does actually look like an exec armoured personel carrier.

Anyway on the Alpina subject i have said before that i'm not a fan of the styling. It's always come accross very 80's retro and not as 'cutting edge' as BMW's own M department. Whatever though.... horses for coarses!

The GL?

GL Class iirc

Yes the GL!....But the one i saw must have been an AMG model with some quite nice styling (mesh grille, side skirts etc). Aren't those things up to about 6 litre now?? Very economical i'm sure. I believe Lewis Hamilton has one.

Yer thats not the Sport version of it! I think your right the man himself has, well did last season! Who knows what they have given him to cruise around in now!!!!!!

What's bizarre is that Lewis Hamilton lives in Switzerland...What they think of a 17 litre behemoth like that i don't know. Not even allowed to fart in Switzerland are you?

Perversely, in a country where motorsport is banned, they had a 125cc world champion a couple of years ago, in Thomas Luhti...:wtf:

Not to mention performance tuning houses such as Sportec. And where are Spyker based? Isn't that Switzerland?

Sorry just remembered it's Holland isn't it. Doh!

Completely off thread, sorry sorry sorry, but I watched a film called 'War' the other night, with Jet Li and that English boy off 'snatch'.
Spyker convertibles in that.
Wow.

Spyker do make some unbelievable cars. The general design is chitty chitty bang bang crossed with the millenium falcon. Actually...Do you remember **** Dastardly's car in Whacky Racers?....I'm sure thats a Spyker.
Joking apart, i sat in one at the motorshow one years and the detail is gobsmacking.

Saw one of those behemoth GL's the other day, looked an absolute beast especially as it was the Brabus 6litre monster. Was funny when the little Asian man with a tash jumped out (literally - it's huge)

Sorry, just couldn't resist. Yes too much time on my hands....

Blimey, this question opened a can of worms!

A specced S3 Sportback with Stronic is £34,000!!!!!!! so i have decided to stick with the 335d and fit uprated suspension and 19" wheels with non runflat tyres.

The S3 is good, but not £34,000 good. Another can opened!

I ditched the run flats on mine shortly after getting it and the difference is quite marked. A much nicer car to drive.

Sounds great.
My car has 19's and non runflats too.
What puncture option do you get, if you spec 'normal' tyres?
My car comes with mousse and a compressor.
Not at all keen on that, so I bought a standard 16" alloy and tyre.
Takes up boot space, but it's my preference.
That reminds me actually, I still need to buy a ****** jack!:undwech:

Also in my case performance came third when buying the S3... just for the record but for bowfer I think we are all in the same bag....So Mark, at 45 with a Sprint Blue S3 i guess you had it mate... sorry....

I would easily have a black S3 as an everyday car if I was in my 40s... suits the bill.Pedro

Not sure what your point is Pedro !! Do you mean I am to old to have a Sprint Blue S3.:sob:

Do you think you would have the energy to keep a black S3 clean at 40, I mean, come on. :moa:

I agree and I have an S3!
I really wanted one but was only prepared to pay a little over the going rate for a nice ED30 Golf or R32.
Obviously it meant a long search but I was lucky enough to find a 4month old example for 25K in the spec I wanted, which was a 30K+ when new.

I could rationilise 25K but no more so see your point at the prospect of forking out 34K, its an awful lot for a hatchback, regardless of how trick the gearchange is !

Good luck

Paul

Ahahah I suppose at 40 you need to start to focus your energy on the main things like the lawn...

Not really mate... Sprint Blue is really nice one of my favourites... But some would say it is a mid life crisis... no sorry, that is the convertible... ahahah

Pedro

Nice one !!!, love the sprint blue myself looks the business, thought people bought motorbikes when they had a mid life crisis.
Thought about a Porsche Cayman , Mrs wiggy said ''NO'' ''means mid life crisis and a small willy''. So stick with the S3, need to muster the energy to give it a clean.

Will be in Porto from the 5th June Pedro, need me to look after your S3 for you ????

I've got a few more candles on my birthday cake than you mate ...... talk about putting us in a box :).

So, i've got an S3 in Sprint blue and a modified tuned motorbike for the odd sunny day. I'm off to the Nurburgring in a couple of weeks and enjoy the occasional blast round Europe on the bike.

Some may say mid life crisis, i say i just buy and use things i like ...... nuff said .

BTW, i've had bikes since i was old enough to crash them (and before) so why change when you still enjoy them.

What was the origional topic again ??????

Is right Kris !!

Did you mean a wooden box, anyway I enjoy what I have, as do you, and don't give a stuff what folk think, as I certainly don't feel to old to be in a sprint blue S3.
