Is it possible to program the car so that the front and rear lights come on when i open it with the transponder key?

On my 04 plate A3 i had auto lights and this was a function of that.

My 07 doesn't have autolights but i heard this could be done.....

Anyone know?

:hi:

Surely this is a question of programming?

Coz with the auto lights i could choose to turn this function on or off - so surely its possible to get into Vag-Com and just turn it permanently on?

Yes your right and the functions called "Coming Home" and even though you would think you need auto lights, you don't as I've done it with mine and I aint got auto lights

If you have Vag-com it's in the Central electrics 09, Function 07 Byte 00 Bit 7

Hope this helps!

Thanks for that Von, i'll give it a go now and let you know how i get on

I've been trying to get this working for ages, but had no success. Might pop out after my dinner and see if I can enable it.

Just tried this out and remembered i tried it before a few months ago, got the box ticked but it still doesn't work, i think there must be some control module for the function.

Got me thinking now!

I don't actually have this function working at the moment (Out of choice) but I've had it working before. Although can't remember if I had DRL selected as well. Not sure if this makes a difference. One way or another I've definitely had the coming home function working.

I have looked around in the control module for the electrics and can't see anything, if anyone else solves the problem please let us know how.

Just been out and I already had byte 0 bit 7 checked.

There is another option - byte 2 bit 4 - coming home via (0) personalisation (1) potentiometer.

This was set to zero, setting it to one didn't do much either. I also have DRLs selected.

I did notice a nice option in it where you can set the DRLs to use the sidelights instead of the main beam. There was also one where you can use your turning signals as parking lights. Might test that one out at a later date. I wonder if that sets the side repeaters as parking lights, or if it is just the front and rear indicators.

There's also a setting where you can set your rear lights to be turn signals too. Presumably this is for the american market.

I thought the car would need the input from the light sensor? Mine has this but it doesnt work when its daylight.

Can you have a look at the VAGCOM settings too when you're finished?:haha:

Just been out to have a look and I must be loosing my marbles as can't get this function to work. I'm certain I had it working before! But then again I'm renowned for my bad memory. . . . .Thought it was getting better as I can't remember the last time I forgot something . . . .

Von M you have given me hope here - don't let me down!!

Surely this can't be a figment of your imagination - anyone else able to jump in here and shed some light on this?

I would like this function too so hopefully someone will find out how to do it!

Yep, my indicators can be used as parking lights, if u click it to the left, the left indicators will stay on solid when u turn off the ignition. You also get an audible beep when u turn off the ignition to let you know, this stops when u pull the key out.

Think you are confusing "turn signal" with "indicator stalk" there. My car also does what yours does - left indicator on with key out turns on left sidelight as parking light, right indicator on with key out turns on right sidelight as parking light.

What I was talking about was a feature where you can use the sidelight bulb and the indicator bulb as the parking lights. What I was wanting to test was if it would also turn on the side repeater and rear indicator for parking lights.

Surely this is something that the dealer/bodyshop boys will know about?

Might head down and see what they say

Haha! Well in my experience, there is more knowledge and experience on here than in my local dealership.

I'm almost 100% sure the only way to get 'coming-home' lights working is to wire in part of the auto-lights package. I'm sure it cant be done with VAG-COM alone.

I forgot to spec auto-dimming mirrors when I bought my car, my dealer told me it was totally impossible to have them retro-fitted. This turned out to be absolute rubbish, a few hours searching the 'net and all sorted!

Hi all, I don't know anything about VAGCOM, but maybe you can reverse engineer base on my description below to figure out what settings are needed to activate by VAGCOM for your British spec A3.

I have "coming/leaving home" function on my A3. This is a feature offered in the Norwegian "Technical pack" when I bought the car.

I have a small button below the DRL scroll wheel which can activate the "coming/leaving" function (on / off). When this is set "on", the Xenons will turn on when:

1) whenever I unlock the car by remote ("leaving home")

or

2) ignition just turned off and open driver door ("coming home")

both 1) and 2) will only function if it is dark enough, it doesn't matter if the Xenons selection switch is "0" or "Auto", timeout for the Xenon is roughly around 30 seconds.

I hope I contributed to more progress than confusion.

yes but its the sidelights you are lighting up, not the indicators like Marc said
