Collecting my S3 tomorrow!

Hi guys,

Well after what seems like forever, I finally get to pick up my S3 first thing tomorrow from my local dealer. Can't wait!

Big thanks to you all on the forum! I've learnt loads more about the car from all the posts. Looking forward to being able to contribute more on the site from an owners perspective

Just wondered if anyone had any advice or top tips for collection day?

Main thing that I keep reading lately is about paintwork...make sure there are no paint defects , just spend a little time looking over the car thourally as dealers have been known to inflict damage when preping\polishing the car prior to collection...other than that,congrats and ENJOY!!!:icon_thumright:

Congradulations on your new car mate... Enjoy it... Im sure you will anyway.

Firslty its a brand new car so you've got to run the engine in. I done 1000 "driving miss daisy" miles on mine.
Another thing... which i regret so much is the fact that i paid for the SuperGuard Paint protection. The biggest waste of £350 and annoys me because i could of paid to reputable Detailer to detail it when i got mine. They would've done a better job of sealing and protecting the paint... and getting rid of the muck that gets attached to the paint during transport.
Inspect the car fully inside / out. Make sure no damage.

Thanks for the advice. Yep will check the paintwork thoroughly and look out for any damage.

I also went for the Superguard option for the paint, interior & wheels - £400... Hope it's not a complete waste and rip off. I did manage to beat them down on their 3 year, £25k GAP insurance from £479 to £279. Been offered 3 year tyre insurance for £149 too, but don't think it's worth the money really.

Yeah deffo get the pics up want to see a p[hantom black with a sunband - as thinking of one at the moment.

Even though all you'll want to do is get in it and drive... make sure you've got a copy of the order form so you can check that you've got the options you've paid for! [sounds stupid, but little things like first aid kit, ipod adapter etc can be missed quite easily]

Other than that - as has been said before paint, paint, paint!

Doh. I got to you too late.... But seriously dont think its worth that price. If only id known early i would have adviced you not to go ahead with it. Detailing is much better and protects your car far better than what Superguard does. Pretty amazing stuff.
Still you got a good deal with the GAP... That makes up for it. :icon_thumright:

If the superguards no good, I might get it detailed later in the year if I can find a good detailer in my area.

Congrats mate, I know how you're feeling right now cos I was excited/apprehensive the day before I collected mine! I note that yours is also phantom black - join the club!

Seriously though, you must check and double check paint work and panels. That includes all the places you wouldn't have thought about.
eg. On inspection I noted 2 maybe 3 small chips on the door. You could only see it when you opened the door and ran your finger along the "edge of the door".
I suspect that the door had been opened and touched against something.
I pointed this out with the salesperson. The "Boss" offered to rectify the problem same day on site! I was thinking NO F-ING WAY!!
I wasnt prepared to let the technicians rub a little T-cut to mask this blemish. I stood firm, stayed assertive and wouldnt sign any paperwork (or part with my cash) until I was fully satisfied.
After about 30mins of 3way negotiation between myself, the boss and salesperson, I was prepared to take the vehicle.
They gave me FREE 1st service & FREE autoglym cleaning products pack.

TBH I wasnt majorly bothered by the door blemish cos I could hardly see it. My mate couldnt even see it even after I had pointed it out, but he could feel it when he ran his finger across the blemish.
I could probably T-cut it out myself at home, but a defect on a new vehicle was not acceptable. So I got more than a fair return with 1st free service and free autoglym products.

Im sure you'll enjoy. I know I did and still do!! :icon_thumright:

Spend the money you saved on the service on a full detail and paint correction and it'll be better than new!

Well guys, today the weather was finally nice enough to let me take some pics of the new beast. Very very pleased with it! Been over it with a fine toothcomb and the paintwork is good, can't see any major swirling yet. Found 1 tiny little chip on the bottom edge of the boot lid. Pointed this out and the dealership have it booked in at the paintshop next sat to fix. I will be going with it too to see how they are going to fix this without making a mess.

That is stunning Macros!! But I personally wouldn't let the dealer anywhere near it!! You don't want such a new car to be messed up with new paint, especially if they don't do it properly. Besides, they'll definitely give it a wash and swirl it to death, and you don't want that on Phantom Black.

had some paint done on a previous leon cupra r, turned into a farce. they made a right mess of it . Supposed to remove overspray on rear bumper, only to mask off bumper, then , removed masking tape only to take paint off bumper, whilst repainting bumper i asked for them to remove paint defect under rear light , so they decided to remove a defect under wheel arch!! never looked the same. also had ibiza cupra completely f**ked up by dealer bodyshop! they just don`t give a monkeys. My s3 has paint damage on the door(must have opened it onto something, like this when i went to view car b4 picking it up). dealer told me they would rather not paint it as they would have to blend in other panels, and you would probably notice it, be warned!!

Hmmm appreciate the advice. So what would be the best way to get the chip sorted out? It's right back to the metal, so don't want it to rust. Anyone know any good paintshops in the southeast who could advise?

For a tiny chip you'd be best off getting touch up paint from Audi ( about £8 if i remember rightly) and carefully do it yourself!
I'm afraid you'll get plenty more stonechips, and if you had to go to a bodyshop each time it happened you'd never be out the place!!
