Guys how easy or how difficult it is to get around 200bhp from 130TDi? And what sort of budget we are looking at whit this kind of upgrade?
 :blackrs4:

Not sure it's possible TBH.
Nearly all remaps will give you 170bhp and c280ftlbs of torque (as mine has), but a further 30bhp from the 1.9 I think will cost an excessive amount.

Is 170bhp not enuff ?!

With tdi's it's the torque you want not the bhp. Anything approaching 300 ftlbs is plenty... S4's 'only' have 302 ftlbs, and that's with a 345bhp V8 engine...

It's possible if your pockets are deep enough! Turbocharger will need upgrading for starters. A re-map is usually enough for most people though. 170+ should be fine for most scenarios, going to 200+ is expensive and will need many more uprated parts.

What about (remaping + intercooler + exhaust) what bhp we can get? How high we can go without changing turbo? :eyebrows:

Why dont you just sod it and get a Petrol turbo??

Price of Diesel these days!

Would have to agree, but it does depend on your annual mileage and the type of drive you want from the car. I prefer the much longer stretches through the gears of the petrol which gives you the performance, rather than relying on higher torque. It provides smoother acceleration and is less punishing on the front tyres.

Having said that though, I have driven both the 130 break tdi and 140 2.0tdi. Couldn't get on with the 1.9, but the 2.0tdi feels more refined and more like a petrol car. Much noisier though!

At the end of the day money talks and judging by what I have driven, you wont go wrong with a 170 1.9tdi.

:arco:

If i start playing with idea selling the car and get petrol one itll be only 3.0 cos i dont like 1.8T units.no ofense but i dont like them thats it. :blahblah1:
...and 200bhp in 3.0 just missing the Wow factor if you know what i mean. :3sadwalk:

I know it is possible just how much we can get without changing turbo? :) nice link theese guys know how :)

Driven the 3.0 avant as well. Nice drive, but I think it's 250bhp...could be wrong. But having owned a 1.8T for five years, I wouldn't go for another one. There are so many diesels out there these days that have got just as good or better performance on the run, it's time to up-the-anti...Although not sure if I could justify a 3.0 myself, too much for insurance, etc and I think the wife might kick me out of the house.:motz:

you dont like 1.8T's??
You had a bad experience then....fair enough if you have but I find that a weird one!

Why do you want 200bhp??? 170 not enough, its all about the torque as its been said.

failing that, get rid and buy a 2.5tdi.....

The 1.8T is a lovely drive, when it is working fine. I have ploughed £'s after £'s into a stalling problem and have now decided to give up after replacing 3 airmass units, lambda probe, breather hose and thermostat switch.

I have to say, as has been stated anything IS possible, but why? Why spend that much? Why overstress the engine to that degree? I have a 2.5TDi with 180 hp and its great. Surely easier to either upgrade the car, or even do an engine swap than do all that - and you still only have 4 cylinders - and nothing beats the V6 growl :hi:

;) so guys "crazyfool" got it right (The 1.8T is a lovely drive, when it is working fine) good engine when its NEW.I can't afort new one so 1.8T is off the list,2.5TDi too heavy and not best for MPG (my opinion)
...what else? ... hmmm ahaaa Money ... "crazyfool" again (if you have the money change it) no I dont have the money to change the car at the moment so remaping to usual 170 for start but "J7USS" (Why do you want 200bhp???) why not? TDi with +200BHP definitely got the "WOW" factor. Its gonna make me smile every time i push my right foot down. :arco:

Is it? I take it you like wheelspin :tumble:

Seriously, I would think about it - yes a 200bhp diesel would be cool, but how driveable would it be? :racer: You might be mighty disappointed if you can't get that power down to the road. I'm not trying to be negative, but that is a lot of torgue to get down through the front wheels alone

Fair comment on 2.5 not being the best for fuel, but you are talking about getting 200bhp from a 1.9 - so what are you after - power or economy?:nyah:

Stage 3 for me please ;)

Allard "know how" to do it -

"Allard offers basically four stages of tune for the TDI. Phase 1 is a software remap giving around 175 bhp, Phase 2 adds an intercooler upgrade pushing it to 195 bhp, but beyond that are Phases 3 and 4, offering 225 and 245 bhp respectively. Although we all tend to relate to power output, it’s the peak torque figure – the real ‘pulling power’ – which TDI tuning is really all about, with the four stages offering 265, 290, 325 and 345 lb.ft. respectively. Just to put these figures into perspective, the 3.2-litre V6 used in the R32 and TT 3.2 quattro produces 250 PS and 236 lb.ft. torque. Indeed, the high-revving petrol engine feels almost feeble in comparison with a tuned TDI."

:anbet:

Thats it Power OR economy?? the thing is whit 200bhp 1.9 can still deliver +40mpg when you drive in economy mode :puke: but as you can see on some other forums 200bhp on Fabias arent big problem so i think front wheels can still handle the power. but obviously some wheelspining is there.
Theese cars are not best hanling cars anyway and im sure all the torque wold not help in corners but on the strait bits nobody can stop you :):undwech:

So you dont have the money to change the car but you will spend thousands on the allard stg3 conversion? Sounds like strange economics to me!

Just think of the extra stress put on the engine/gearbox/running gear as you go above 220+ BHP - Its never going to be cheap or reliable in the long term.

:uhm:

Strange economics? maybe you're right but every1 here spending thousands on wheels, body kits, polishing and whatever they like. save the money sell the car and you can get better car or same one but higher spec all the toys in it or biger and more powerfull engine But how many of us do so???

Quattro Power!:arco:

IMO you should just get rid and get a 2.5tdi remapped, job done.Yeah its heavier :blahblah1: but better in the long run, Not like its Well overweight.
Think of the potential if you tuned the 2.5!

It aint gonna hurt getting -5mpg wth the 2.5 is it.
Are you sure you exactly know what you want from your Audi??

I would get the Hybrid VT2 from Allard http://www.allardmotorcompany.com/pages/products/products.asp?cat=8
£695 exchange and a custom remap.Should see 200bhp for around a grand.

You dont need quattro to have all that power and torque, would be easier to get the power down but not essential.
Might be tricky in the wet though.

Yeah I’m with you about the FWD. The problem is the clutch cos with FWD you going to spin the wheels but with Quattro and no upgrade on clutch u probably spin the clutch to death :) so what u really wonna spin tyres or clutch

 mods on engine are allways a risk aren't they?

MPG wise its swings and roundabouts - my feeling is you wouldn't drive a 2.5 as hard as a 1.9 to get the same performance, so mpg would be preferable - but I'm sure the next posters opinion will be different!

A 2.5 clutch is built to take more use/abuse than a 1.9, but why would you 'spin it to death'?? Unless you do full bore standing starts (and why would you with a quattro?) then all the time when you are using full power the clutch will be disengaged and you won't be spinning the tyres either.

Unless your a hooligan ...... :uhm:

I think you missed the point Isaac Hunt was making about strange economics - yes I know some spend lots on wheels etc rather than upgrading, but you were saying that you couldn't afford to upgrade, but COULD afford an Allard Stage 3 conversion! :noway:

At the end of the day fella, it's your car and your money. If you want to spend c£1000 to get 200bhp, then go for it...

Individuality is fine, just so long as you're aware of the potential risks.

There endeth the lesson, so sayeth Stoaksey...

;)

Wouldnt really want to be spinning either, replacing worn tyres can be a very expensive hobby.

All this started with remapping coming up in couple of weeks and you all know 170bhp is not a problem. So I’m wondering how much it going to cost to get more then 170?
And now I know it does not cost a fortune and it does not take a lot of work either.
Get close to 200bhp with remap and bigger intercooler for about £500-£600 sounds very good to me. Going over 200bhp require new turbo and that’s not what I want.
In my earlier posts I was too exited (yeeeah I hear you laughing :) ) but still you have to agree get over 200bhp for around 1,5k is good value. We all know what the risks are but going on 200bhp it’s not a hardcore for the engine, gearbox etc. I agree its more stress for them but still can handle it. 200bhp/300lb.ft. Is not going to rip it all apart.
anyway im not going to messing wit the turbo (for now) :sly:

Thanks for all your reply's

..get the suspension stiffened aswell, Its gonna Launch like mad with all that torque!

200bhp from a 1.9 diesel erm.... Easy peasy!

My last car wazs 1a 1.9 diesel vectra 150bhp.

I fitted a DTUK CRD2 tuning box and hey presto I was kicking the butt of 200bhp.

It was a front wheel drive with hugely embarrasing underteer but OMG did it scare off a lot of hot hatch contenders on the long straights or steep hills where I live.

If I'd have had the money I'd have sorted the suspension and brakes as the standard brakes just weren't up to the job when pushing hard.

Must admit I did ruin a clutch.. removed the tuning box and had it fixed under warranty......I love getting one over on the dealers....hehe!

I am have never considered adjusting anything on mine, especially since I am looking to sell it some time next year. But if you want to check out somewhere else for prices, I take my car to Dialynx for most of its work. http://www.dialynx.co.uk/

The man at Vagparts, has a older shape TT with a TDI in, sais its circa 240bhp and gives stock skylines a run for there money.
Had alot done by Allard, it sure does look pretty and I bet it flies.
he sais its much faster than a 225 TT.
