Paint bubbling/corrosion on edge of roof

Mine's gone into the bodyshop today to get the work sorted. She said she she didn't have a timescale so not sure when I'll get it back.

In the meantime I have a lovely '57 plate Chrysler Matiz, and what a nasty thing it is!

If someone could post pictures here of their corrosion that would be great. I had the corrosion on the lower door sills, my car is an S REG - 1998. (woo hoo!)

Tempted to run it over to Lincs Audi this afternoon on lunch but just want to confirm by pictures the corrosion spots on the roof. Thanks!:)

Went to my local dealer, they used the paint gauge (but luckily doors hadn't been resprayed) and accepted the claim for the roof corrosion and corrosion at bottom of doors. Got it booked in for May and getting a hire car (prob a vw fox but better than nothing)

Does anyone know what will be resprayed? Will it be both doors? Onlly reason I ask is that its a 9year old car so has lots of scratches all over it and would be nice if they go.

Just been to my local (dealer, not pub!), he was only happy to help and took all my details, took photographs and will send them on to the chappy. I await a phone call towards the end of the week. Huzzah!!

Thanks

Well it looks like Ive got this on both sides as well. Went to the dealer today and the guy reckons its been painted already so Audi might not touch it. Paint thickness was up to 180microns and he reckoned it should be 140 max. Does this sounds right to anyone thats had thiers checked?

Mine went into Audi Exeter on Monday, and I just picked it up today, everything looks ok, and as an added bonus they gave me an S6 as a courtesy car :w00t:

is that the one on marsh barton trading estate? thats who painted mine as there the only audi approved paint shop. got the car back last week and they ****** up wht roof metal trims. they looked real bad and they admitted they was in the wrong way. they took it back and got it back the next day. looks sweet now tho :D btw was ur courtesy car silver? if so it was the same one i had.. well fast

Just dropped mine off today at the same place as themanthatcan.

I did slightly better on the courtesy car front and got a seat altea diesel 06 plate. Gotta be better than a chrysler matiz!!

was told it would be about a week so hopefully all goes well.

How did you manage that vrbob..is that the car the bodyshop offered you? This Matiz is the devil reincarnated. It's made out of Lego, has ZERO power and the brakes are made of sponge cake! It's a '57 plate but drives like a 15 year old car!

Did you drop your car at the old Testwood bodyshop or the new one just up the road? I phoned them today to chase mine up and they said they'd moved premises! Anyway mine should be ready tomorrow hopefully. They're phoning in the morning to confirm.

Yeh, thats the one. I read your post so was a bit worried about the trims but all looks fine. The S6 I had was blue. The bloke apologised for it having a scratch down one side (looked like it had been keyed), but I really didnt care about that! ****** massive car after an A3 though

LOL yeah definatly. nice to here they sorted out ur paint job. i just got mine remapped and its fast as hell now. its 192.2bhp with over 240 torque. scarry how much power there is now with no extra parts fitted. :jump:

Just a tad lucky i guess!, Was a bit of a mare getting them to let me know what they were gonna give me and after you got a matiz i wasn't expecting much but the seat is pretty good so won't be too bad for the week i have it.

Yeah when i went the first time it was to the old place but i had to go to the new place today as they have moved. Much more upmarket and busy as hell!! loads of audi's etc even pre delivery (no number plates) ones in getting repaired. Its called Harwoods accident repair and its the big place on the corner of the road you went down to get to the old place.

Post up how yours comes out when you get it so we can compare results.

Out of interest is your a W reg as there was a black 8L S3 in the car park today??

I guess they have a better fleet of courtesy cars in their new premises. I ended up using their insurance. It's got a £1000 excess but it was gonna cost almost £40 to put their car on my insurance and I simply couldn't afford it!

Sounds like that was my car you saw cos my reg is W4 SGB. If it was in the car park then they've either finished it and not told me or not even started it; with my luck at the moment they won't have even started it and it won't be ready until next week!

i had the same problem with mine .audi took it and sorted it made a really nice job .looks like new.it took them 3 weeks because they had trouble getting paint for mine .but all done now .well chuffed

I'm just getting really fed up with garages as a whole at the moment. Since getting the S3 it's been letdown after letdown with jobs taking twice as long as they should and nobody giving me updates when they promise to.

The bodyshop were supposed to call me back this morning with an update but failed to , so I phoned them at 11am and was told they were still working on it and they would give me a call back in 10 minutes to tell me if I could pick it up today. Surprise surprise, it's now 12:20 and they haven't phoned back. Cowboys!

Well apparently the car's just been in for an acid bath which they need to leave on for 24 hours before respraying it. In other words I was right with my suspicions that they hadn't even started the car yesterday :aggressive:Why the hell bother asking me to get the car in at 8am on Tuesday "so they can get started nice and early" if the car is just going to sit there for 3 days!

I won't have it back until Tuesday which is really annoying because that's the day GTA4 is released and I have the day booked off already. Was planning on not leaving the house for 2 days! :)

Gutted yeah that was your car a saw then i the car park.

if i had known i could of said as it didn't look like it had a recently fixed roof.

I got the seat put on my insurance for the week and it cost me £21 plus my car is still covered incase the garage does something stupid.

Hope we both come out smiling in the end!!

Talking of S3 woes i had mine last year there is a large thread on here as i put mine in a garage to get the clutch etc replaced and to cut a long story short i was without my car for 2 months and it cost me pretty much 3k to get it sorted i was not a happy bunny!!

P.s when you collect yours let me know if you see mine in the car park so i can chase them if necessary!!

Oh don't talk to me about clutches..that's the next thing on the list! How the hell did it end up costing £3k?!! Don't suppose you can remember how much you were originally quoted to get it done?

I'll keep my eyes open for your car matey. What's the bet that you collect yours before mine's even finished though! :)

Here the long version of the story!!

http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=44785&highlight=abtech

I got my cambelt done at the same time plus a few other bits n bobs i had to have a new flywheel too (supposedly) anyway i think it was all gonna be about £1150 (clutch n flywheel was about £900 i think).

Good thing is the car is ok now and i won't be going back to that garage again.

Well i hope you get your car first so you can tell me how good there work was!!

Do i remember correctly that you were gonna get your detailed?? if so who by and what sort of cost was it??

Think I should have stuck to the short story..that thread just took 30 mins to read!! Sounds like you had an absolute nightmare fella. How did you fund it all in the end? Certainly puts my gripes in their place as at least all my recent repairs have been paid for by my warranty! I'm sure you know what it's like to be without your car though. I've had mine for 6 weeks, it's been out for my posession for a total of 2, and it's not actually been problem-free for the whole time I've had it! Hopefully once the clutch is replaced it'll be in tip top shape though :)

It's getting detailed the weekend of May 16th by Alex at South Coast Detailing http://www.southcoastdetailing.co.uk/. He charges £200 for the exterior paint correction and detailing or £250 for the full inside and out service, which is a very good price. He came recommended by Neil_S on here, who is a detailer himself but taking time out to concentrate on his normal job.

I'll let you know how both the body work and the detailing go. Will be nice to have our motors up to scratch for the summer :)

Whereabouts in Soton are you by the way? I'm originally from Hythe but moved to Pompey a few years ago for work (here's hoping Grathies doesn't read this!).

Andy

Luckily i had put aside £1500 for the original work to be done, the rest well lets say my ISA aint as healthy anymore!!

Yeah it was a long old thread but as i say just damn happy Audi managed to solve the problem n get my car back up n running cos if they couldn't it looked like i was gonna have to sell it broken for a cheap price n still foot the bill.

Cool that does sound like a good deal on the detailing if it turns out good i think i may well follow suit n get it nice n shiney for the summer (also thinking about some new wheels when my tyres get low).

I live in Lordswood but work just outside of Fareham so up n down the M27 everyday which is a right ****** with the crappy roadworks at the mo!!

Work in Hedge End myself and the roadworks between junctions 12 and 11 are no way near as bad as the ones between 2 and 4. Had to deal with those the other day coming in from my parents house and they were a nightmare! Lets just hope they sort out the congestion.

It wouldnt be so bad if it wasn't for other drivers being indecisive about merging with traffic and also others being inconciderate. The 50mph limit (average) works quite well once your on the motorway its just getting to it that a pian in the ****!!.

I get off at the exit after hedge end so often avoid the tailbacks that can occur after that.

the worst thing of all is that fact that your in a car thats got reasonable performance yet for most of my commute i have no chance of enjoying it.

Mine has slight bubbling on the roof rails, not very noticeable but I can feel it! Think I should give Audi a bell tomorrow and see what they say. My car got sprayed with shattered galss last night as a drink driver smashed into a bus stop and showered my car with the glass so I'm going to claim for a bit of paintwork but I'd better have audi look at it before any work gets done on it! I was lucky last night he span in front of me, had to swerve left or else my S3 would of died!

Phoned the bodyshop at 8:30 this morning to be told by the receptionist that it's looking like the car won't be ready today :gun2: I'd love to know what the hell they're playing at!!! Am waiting on a call back from the bodyshop manager at the moment but going on their previous call back promises I'm gonna have to chase them at lunchtime. Honestly I've lost all faith in garages at the moment!

This is really getting on my nerves now! Have been without my baby for over a week :sob:

Were you mean to the receptionist?? (only joking)

I got a message left on my answer machine yesterday saying that my car had been allocated to a painter and that it should be done by thursday or friday.

Hope the results we get are worth the hassle.

Hows GTA5??

Hehe nah I'm always calm and polite to the receptionists as I know what it's like to take call from arsey customers. :) Dawn the older recepionist is a really nice lady.

I've finally had a call back from Dawn and she says the car *should* be ready tomorrow as it's going in for paint today. It would be nice to actually get a "yes it WIL be ready tomorrow", not "should" or "may". When questioned as to why there is such a delay all she could tell me was that they have a backlog due to moving premises.

I've told her I'm off work tomorrow so could really do with having the car back by then and she's going to let the painters know.

Finger crossed!

Oh and GTA4 is excellent. Graphics aren't quite up to standard but then again GTA games have never been about great graphics. It plays like the old games but with some nice new touches. I'd highly recommend getting a copy!

Finally got my car back! Had to keep chasing them though and got the nod at 4pm to go collect it.

There was major traffic on the M27 and I didn't arrive until 5:25! They close at 5:30 and it was really a case of "here's your keys, bye" and they shut up shop! It was raining so I couldn't really give it a good inspection at the time.

I've given it an inspection now I've got home and I'm not too happy with the work at all! I was told by Southampton Audi that they would be spraying the whole of the roof and the rear quarter panels. It appear's all they've done is the damaged roof rail and rear quarter panel. Then there's what appears to be a scratch the full length of the roof. It's like they've used a knife down the length of it. Then there's a white residue on the rear window opener and plastic panel between the rear window and boot. Am gonna pop out in a minute to wipe it off but it's just not on!

Am going to have to call them in the morning and have a moan. I really can't believe that it will have to go back in again after they've had it for so long.

Vrbob (what is your real name by the way..bob?) - Couldn't see your car in the car park anywhere. Maybe it was in the workshop? I'd make sure you give it a good going over when you get it back!!

Its Bob yeah (VR is for virtual reality)

Gutted about the work done on your car that really is not on. I was also told it would be the whole roof done not just part of it.

My car was supposed to be done today or 2moro. Will defo go over it very closely now as yours does not seem to be as good as expected!!

As its warranty work you would think they would do a good job and replace as much as they can as they know Audi will foot the bill at the end.

Also did they put all the trim inside back together properly??

All the trim was put back together fine yeah. the white residue on the interior panels has wiped off with a wet cloth OK as well.

I'm going to pop out and take a good look at the scratch and the quality of the paintwork again at lunchtime, as I'm not very impressed with the quality of the paint job either. Seems to be quite "orange-peeled" under the lacquer.

For a quality approved bodyshop the paint should be as good as out of the factory IMHO.

If it is orange peeled i would demand it to be repainted. Will check later to see the ETA of my car.

Just been out for lunch and checked out what I thought were scratches. It turns out it's just the remains of an adhesive, probably from some masking tape or whatever they use. Anyway it looks like it'll clean off ok.

As for the paintwork itself it looks like dodgy area on the quarter panel is where they've blended the new paint with the old. If I find time on Saturday I'm gonna pop it over to them and see what they say. It's certainly not up to standard as it clearly looks like the car has had paintwork done.

Well glad its not as bad as it first looked but still it should be as good as the rest of the paintwork so you cannot tell its been re-painted thats the whole point.

Had a message on my answerphone saying my car was in the paintshop yesterday so might be today or tommorrow will give them a beell when i get home today.

Man thats shocking! im still waiting for the nod from Audi to do my roof. Sometimes you think is it worth getting it done if they cant do it right. I have had bad experiences with bodyshops as they never get it right. Lucky now i have found a good bodyshop.
If mine goes in, i will be def. doing a full inspection to see if its up to scratch!:respekt:

just got my S3 back, Didn't really get a chance to inspect in great detail as the car was parked under a tree and had pollen etc on it but does not look too bad.

Will give it a wash off 2moro and give it a closer inspection as i said to them i would contact them if i had any issues and thay said no worries.

Themanthatcan : have you had your detailing done as yet as its next on my list of things to do as i have quite alot of superficial scratches on the doors n bonnet i would like to try to get sorted.
