Pirelli GTI

Those buckets with tyre tread finish unique and a bit mad. Might actually like them though. Nice wheels apart from that looks like any other GTI.

Pirelli burd in the passenger seat would set it of nicely.

The MK5 GTi is fantastic, the ED30 is better, Pirelli just as good as the ED30 with more quirky styling, S3 bit better again but with an AUDI badge and 4wd to deal with the remap !!
Very reason why I sold my MK and sold a kidney to get an S3 !

As a long term VW fan, If VW do a 4wd Golf or new Scirroco then I might be very tempted....until then it can only be an S3.....the ultimate UBER HATCH !

off for another beer
laters:zen:

Your spot on about selling a kidney, i'm not really in the best part of 30k Audi income bracket , but it's the car i wanted , and i plan on keeping it enough years to make it worth my while!

IMHO the S3's a lot better than the Ed 30 all round!

TBH i couldn't give a monkeys about the Audi badge , in fact i wish i could have the same car, same spec , same build , everything , but made by "AnthonyAutos" and save myself 10-15k :) as long as it's black.

lol

100% mate.
Ive always been a hot hatch fan, right from my first Reno 5 Turbo until now at the ripe old age of 34, and for me the S3 is the pinnicle of the genre.
Im a badge snob too so the fact that the best hatch money can buy is an AUDI is cool.

cheers:salute:

I'd be careful making statements like that, someone will try and shoot you down.

But you're right. :icon_thumright: I was more than happy spending the extra cash. My camp is full of hot hatches. Mostly STs, a few older cars like an 8L S3 and modded Clios and until now the best hatch there was my mates MkV R32. :arco:

Ive come over from the modded Clio camp too , i had a brief fling with the MK2 Cupra ( the new one ) before the S3.

i nearly bought an ED30. Very nice car and price was good too but missed out on it and ended up with a TT. The only downside is that it doesnt have 4 motion and 230ps is pushing what is tractable in 2wd. I would have chipped it potentially too but again, traction would be an issue... Still; a great car for 23/24K...

Youre right about the traction issue.
My MK5 was around 250bhp with REVO and it was a bit of a handfull in any conditions other than perfectly dry and pointing dead straight!

I sold my 54 plate for 13K but Ive seen MK5 GTis with very high motorway miles for 10/11K. Stick on a REVO remap and you have a serious bit of kit for the money.
That was part of the reason I didnt go for an ED30 as I couldnt justify spending another 10K on another Golf that was only `marginally` better than the one I had and the fact that another 12K got me into an S3.
Cool car the Golf, but an S3 it aint...:salute:

True, but they're not the same. Just bugs me, when they are freely interchanged. Annoying still is when magazines and tuners constantly get them wrong!

You are right about the mag's getting it wrong they should know better and get there facts right , but whats 3bhp between friends? you'd lose that going over a cig butt!

Mags get things far more wrong than just the PS/BHP lol

It's still only 3 though on an S3. 265PS/262BHP by all the accounts I have seen. Although considering the fact that everyone seems to get more than that from a RR it's a bit of a moot point!

True, but you would think that they would get the actual output of a vehicle right though, wouldn't you? May as well say the S3 is 260. Or an M5 is 500 not 507. Or an RS4 is about 440. If people moan about the difference on a remap being 303 or 310 or 330, why not just be accurate? It's clever marketing at the end of the day, as most people read the PS figures as BHP. They simply are not. Who always thought that the TT 180, 190 and 225 were in BHP? It's not unlike disk capacities of GB vs GiB. But that's another argument entirely...

[And an S3 is def 261BHP (well, 261.4 to be exact)!]

Anyway, entirely off topic, so enough!!!

I don't like it, but then I don't like golfs! Overpriced and overated imo.

Probably out in the cold on my own here :cold:

Sorry to be argumentative, but, if a Golf is overpriced, errr, QED, isn't (dare I say it?) an A3 (S3)?!?

I like golfs, their build quality is fine IMO. If you could get a 320+bhp 4 wheel drive 2.0TFSI Golf I'd probably get that over the S3.

Although, if such a thing existed and was exactly the same price as the S3 I'd take the S3.

Despite being virtually the same car?

Same stable, very different car.

The notion that a Golf is an A3 in an AUDI body was one that I wrongly subscribed to before I bought an S3,
No doubt there is a similar `feel` and the family ties are obvious but the 2 cars drive, ride, handle, stops and go radically different from each other. I can say that having owned both back to back.

IMO both cars are overpriced, but both cars are excellent in their own way, certainly enough to make me part with more cash than is really sensible for a hatchback !

cheers

Hmmm, hear what you're saying, but, couldn't you say the same about say a basic 1.4 Golf S vs a GTI or an R32 - same car - but drive and handle so much differently because of different suspension arms, springs, shocks, roll bars, steering, wheels/tyres, etc. Same as an A3, really? In fact, magazines say that the GTI handles and drives better that the A3 (a 2.0 TFSI S-line FWD?). I think AutoCAR summarised the A3 as "dull" (excluding the S3 - "a revelation").

yup, between this thread and the S3 colour thread I've read some quality ********

Talking of over priced, i bought my now 2 year old Sportback in Dec 07 for £22k, struggling to get more than £15.5 for a trade in at the moment.

God damm stealers.

I think the P GTI looks pretty good but would have to see the seats in the flesh before passing judgement, can't believe how biased some of the comments are, the GTI is a superb car and just as exciting as any A3 including the S3, perhaps not as capable as the S3 in some conditions but for the majority of everyday driving situations perhaps even more fun at times, why does a car have to become inferior just because we don't own it ?!?

I too believe the VW is not as good inside as the Audi but in terms of driving dynamics it is at worst equal but more often than not superior, fact.

Anyway dont know why I'm surprised we are on an Audi Forum afterall :)

What you going for next tdi-line ?

why is it the stealers fault?

surely it's the market that dictates the prices not some Next suited bod in a gin palace?

I agree...
The GTI specifically is fantastic to drive...

And it never fails to amaze me how blinkered some people can be (on here).
Surely car enthusiasts can acknowledge that another car may be faster/better handling/more fun than theirs, despite the fact they chose their car for their own reasons?
Sadly, it seems the 'snobbery' value of owning an Audi prevents people from acknowledging anything else as remotely decent...and forces you to believe you drive the best car in the world, and have somehow arrived in life.
Which I find quite sad...and perplexing.
