Had my car CC'ed yesterday (thanks JBS) and loving it so far.

However JBS said that i would probably need a MAF within a week.
Also I have been experiencing some strange temperaure problems which I have read on here are down to the coolant temp sensor.

So I need to but a MAF and a coolant temp sensor, 2 questions:

1 - Is there a place to get these cheaper or am I better just going direct to Audi/VW ?
2 - Do I need a coolant temp sensor or sender ?

Regards
James

I tried a few MAFs from ebay but they didn't work with my car. I think it had to do with mine being an older model, but I went to VW in the end for a £70 recon item which has been fine. Coolant temp sensor and sender are two terms for the same thing. The sender/sensor itself is two parts combined into one. Half tells the ECU whats what and the other half supplies the gauge on the dash. So you can have a good running car with a dodgy dash display and vice versa.
Coolant senders are cheap, so just go to VAG for them.

Hey, did you see my car there yesterday? (Yellow A3 - also in for a map)

Yeh i saw it parked next to a really bright yellow (SEAT I think)
When mine was done i went outside they had parked it next to yours. :)

It might be worth giving the MAF a clean before you replace it? (only takes 10-15 mins).

As for the temp sender, make sure you get the latest (green I think) version, again you can change this yourseslf quite easily (just make sure the engine is cold so you don't lose much coolant)

There are how to guides here somewhere, if you can't find them drop me a pm as i've got them saved on my pc.

Mike
