Had a bit of a nightmare this afternoon, shut my boot and the rear window shattered and fell out. The glass didnt hit anything it just shattered and fell onto my parcel shelf and the floor. needless to say it took me by suprise. Has anyone had this happen?

That looks mad, ill be less brutal with my bootlid from now on.

Hmmm are you certain there wasnt a chip or something on it that you hadnt notice?

Whoa, that looks bad mate!!!

Have you got it sorted, is this something you can sort through insurance, like you can with the front windscreen??

I can remember an advert a while ago like this, but the guy fills the car up with that much stuff, shuts the boot and bam glass everywhere. Sorry about that mate hope you get it sorted, try breakers yards should be standard fit from any A3.:gun2:

No point going through the insurance mate its full excess on rear and side windows so £300 in my case and its gonna cost less than that to fix.

Jesus full excess that's criminal

Just watch out because one of the two usual suspects (rac and autoglass) is waaay more expensive than the other

A rear screen shouldn't set you back more than £100-£150

When some little scroat tried to nick the spoiler of my old saxo a few years ago it did the same thing... although i got a new one for the £50 windscreen excess?! Must check my current policy!!!

Guess i was lucky! Unless vandalism is different?!

Funny enough we had a few cases of this when I worked for VAG, no apparent explinations but all on A3 and S3, and mines been replaced too

Must be a common fault then, very strange. Have you got the receipt for yours mate, how much was it?

You have parked it the other way round right?

The full price was £243 iirc but they are doing me a deal as im not going through insurance and paying cash. To be honest i expected it to be more, its not only heated its got the aerial elements in it.

Mate had it happen on his 3 series compact. I think there must be some sort of inherent weakness which may have existed since production or a more recent chip. Good luck on getting it sorted.

Not sure what you mean mate?

The pic is from when i dropped it of at the RAC glass place. They are keeping the car inside while the glass is delivered and fitted so it will be safe and dry.

oh, lol thought it was at home, what time do RAC glass close nowadays? My cousin had shattered his rear screen on his E46 and RAC couldnt do anything till the morning, even though it was 6pm!

****,

good things it wasnt raining

want to sell the wheels now ? lol

Im so glad its been such a good day, would have been even more of a nightmare if it was raining.

And still not selling the wheels mate! lol

Double checked my policy and turns out it is covered under the windows but i didnt go through the insurance approved glass place so its £100 excess.

STOP! before you book auto glarse, etc, try your friendly dealer......I foudn the side glass for mine, all audi branded was only £27 retail price !! Auto **** wanted £80 for their copy stuff just to supply.

I had it fitted at a bodyshop, you may find it cheaper and looks more OEM that way (I knwo I always check for the audi rings when looking for a new car to see if it has ever been broeken into!

whoever said rear glass is cheap, when i had my A4 done a few years back i saw the invoice they would send to my insurance company 1 front screen and fitting £568+VAT I asked the guy whats the most expensive screen hes fitted he said Audi A2 rear screen £1200 and it took 2 attempts the first one cracked the day after!

Anything claim through insurance is expensive, that's what we pay for.... prices are less than half that if you are in the motor trade, and probably even less if you squeeze a little buy offering cash as payment.

The rear screen from audi with heater and antenna (at latest prices) is £120.95 including vat.

RAC sound a bit expensive tbh. If their screen is of a similar price, then thats approx £120 in labour.

I've no idea how much Audi would charge to fit it, maybe similar?

I had one a few months ago, got an original Audi screen fitted by RAC.

Was £60 excess.

You'll be finding glass for months, im still finding bits in mine now!

Just picked the car up and it cost me just the £50 excess through my insurance in the end. In the end it turns out the car has the rear screen and wiring for Sat Nav not just the standard radio aerial in the screen, this extended the time they had the car as they initially ordered the standard one as I dont have Sat Nav fitted. Unfortunately I now need to speak to the insurance company, as when the window smashed it has damaged boot and rear bumper, there are lots of chips and scratches on both. According to my policy book this is covered with no further excess and no effect on my ncb. Hopefully i can get this in to the bodyshop and sorted quickly.

yup will make no difference to your NCB, but you have to disclose when you renew.... hmmmmwonder if they price that into the policies?
