I get lots of looks and attention in my S3.....

Compared to my old mondeo :)
 
yeah, me too... its this damn white colour!! People keep looking at it... I hate it.

Male. Can give you a short back and sides no problem. You'd need a bag for your head afterwards though.

yeah mine turns heads, think its the white, had loads of comments on the motor, people approaching me in petrol garages etc.....

Think you get more of that though if you get black!

Like most peeps you expect to see a lady driving the TT with those huge sunglasses on so she looks like a fly!

Hey at least the TT-S has a decent engine to get it down the road....
 
To be fair the MK 2 TT looks a lot more muscular and aggressive than the MK 1 , and the TT-s is gonna look even more butch..... LOL:whip:

Hmmm, interesing. I like orange... wouldnt have thought it lended well to the white exterior tho??

TT-s for me, S3's don't look different to a regular A3 and they are everywhere (plus they need too many wheel bearings :) )
 
Get the S3 and Black or Red!!!

TT-S? Why bother? still looks cheap next to a Porsche Cayman and for £37k there are plenty Porsches around... or a Z4 coupes!!!

I like the TT but you can't get away from sort of haidresser image just because there are lots of them...

Defo S3 in Sprint blue.
Rare car, Ive seen lots more TTs than S3s here `up North`.

TT are very nice but if youre spending 30K+ on a sports car where practicality isnt an issue then its got to be a Porker.

I test drove the TT despite the usual grief i got off mates re girls car etc before buying the S3. As much as the Mk2 is slightly bigger than the Mk1 I personally think the dimesions need to be tweeked further. I had to do some serious neck bending to get in the TT which i don't in a Cayman or Z4M. Seems trivial perhaps but this would really have got on my nerves over time. I drove the 2.0 TT and S3 straight after and IMHO the S3 was impressivly much faster hence i bought one. Not knocking the TT just sharing my view/experience. The TT-S will be hell of a motor ...... if you can get in ok:icon_thumright:

f you need 4 proper seats get the S3 if you only need occasional seats and require a bit of a looker go for the TT-S.

I have done almost the same, but sold my 2.0T TT for the S3. Had the last few months in a 2.0T EOS and now waiting for my TTS.

The std 2.0TT certainly has a better exhaust note and looks nicer, but as a drivers car the S3 trumps it all the time. I would have an S3 over the std TT.

Almost went back to an S3 earlier this month, but whilst it looks classy, the side view never worked for me - missing the blistered arches of the MK1 and the A3 on which it is based is becoming a bit long in the tooth. Saw the TTS and had to have one.

It will be interesting to see how the exhaust sounds in the TTS, hope its not as dull as the S3's.

Mines being built mid May, so empty boats permitting should have it earlish June

How big are you? I'm 5 11 and not slim, but the TT was always easy to get in and out of.

How about the need for 4 seats, coupled with lack of driver ability to handle a high powered rwd!. Stacks of Porsches here in bucks - Boxster county
 
I think the exhaust note on the S3 , combined with the engaine noise and turbo wooosh sounds pretty meaty! it's certainly no V6+ , but it'll do me untill i need to replace the OEM exhaust.

Actually mate, sorry to have to tell you that you don't even have to drive it. If it's parked on a London road there will be mobile cc vans with cameras to spot you. So it's £25/day even if you don't drive it!

(unless you park it on a driveway or in a secure lock up or something)

Personally I think both the S3 and TT are both superb cars but aimed at a different market, as I said before the decision would be affected greatly by 'practicality' needs, in the looks department there is no contest, the S3 is not intended to be great looking car, it is so by default, whereas the TT was designed with this intention.

Jeeze! People like this wind me up. They see a car as a status symbol. The more expensive it is the better it is obviously! I bet he'd be ill at the prospect of a Clio 182, which by all accounts is a fantastic car.

As for 4 seats... if you need for seats forget the TT... my mate has a TT and rear seats are more like a rear shelf... might be fine for a 2 mile trip to the shops...

Driver ability... no comment.

Again is a personal choice if I was buying a TT-S or any car for the matter I would try to get a very good spec... well in the TT-S if you do that is brings it close to £40k... And with that price tag there are nicer cars with better build quality, driveability or even performance. And no matter what you say you will see more new shape TT than new shape Caymans...

I am sure the TT-S will be a very very fast car... but if follows the trend of my S3, completely unexciting... I drove a friends simple 320i coupe and steering feel, driver envolvment was in another league... he even turned off traction control and I was able to play a little with it... Now that is a drivers car... not this clinical Audi "locomotives"...

But yeah... TT is a looker and everyone will look at you when cruising at 5mph on the highstreet saturday mornings...

Remember I have already owned the TT as well as the S3 so know what space it has. With two daughters who for some strange reason like me I need at least 3 seats. Wife can stay at home. Tried the 2 seater idea with a 350Z and had too many arguments. We have a Chelsea tractor for the big loads.

I would agree that there is a risk in the TT-S and its driver excitment, something Audi has not majored on in the past. I'm happy to take the risk.

As for BMW's, have access to a 320d and 520d. If you can get past the crap and stiff runflats then enjoy. As a company we have vowed not to buy any more in the near future

I must admit, I tend to think of the TT as a girl's/hairdressers car.
IMO, it's the looks they are first attracted to, then the fact they are completely unintimidating to drive.
Nice light steering, nice light controls, hardly any chance of you losing control.
Some would call that a boon, some would call it boring.
If it was more 'challenging' to drive, women wouldn't like it.
 
TT-S isn't worth the cash, as I've said in other posts, there are MUCH better cars around the 40k mark, epecially if you go 2nd hand.

996 turbo, RS4, Noble M400, etc...

Or if you want a new car the boxter/cayman would be a better choice imho.

But between the S3 and the TT-S is would be the S3 every time.

The S3 is cheaper, more practical, looks more manly, and very nearly as quick.
 
I extensively test drove both the Cayman and boxster in all engine guises and although impressed with balance/handling and especially the awesome sound I just wouldn't want to live with one on a day to day basis, the porsche for me was the sort of car you would love to borrow for the weekend or funds permitting own as a second car.

The interior of the car is a high priority for me and Audi undoubtedly do build the best interiors plus I really had to have the option of an additional seat be it for very occasional use for my little girl in order for the expense to be justified.

The TTS is very highly specced at a basic price of £33,380 which is not that dissimilar to an average specced S3 price wise.

There is nothing wrong with the exhaust note on the S3 and agreed it makes a great sound when pressing on, but Audi have done something different with the 2.0T tt as it sounds gruffer and more sporty throughout the rev range, this is not a criticism of S3 ownership just an observation having owned both.

Somebody posted something about a crap ride on run flats, what run flats ?!?

My car has the additional Sports suspension which is firmer and lower by 10mm shod with 255x35x19 tyres, the ride is no different to the S3 on 18" apart from a little more road noise.

If I had another child I'd definetly consider another S3, in the meantime I'm considering buying a set of clippers and a hair dryer and converting my garage into a barber shop ! :)

The TTS will be awesome - until the TTRS anyway :(

The FWD TT is far more entertaining to drive than my S3 was purely for all the wrong reasons the main one being understeer. The TT now has an additional 40 bhp compliments of a remap and this adds some torque steer into the equation which really makes me grin and requires a degree of driver input, the S3 is an astounding car in which to cover distance very quickly but dare I say too efficient?!?

The TT-s will of course have the same attributes as the S3 and I would be the first to agree that a real drivers car is RWD but I had difficulty finding one with the correct amount of seats, I did try and talk the wife into a wildcard being a Z4 M Coupe but regardless of its superb spec and performance on offer all the wife was interested in was no rear seat :(

All fair points, I can see why you went with the TT-S, but if I was in your shoes I still think I'd take an RS4 over the TT-S. But thats just my opinion. :)

Oh yes... there is the RS4...

Anyone considered a 2-3 year old 911 Carrera? Rear seats are ridiculous but should be more exciting to drive and everyone says it is a fine everyday car...

I would love a big fat V8 especially with the right amount of seats but consider it a fault on my part I guess I'm a bit of a fashion victim but wouldn't want an 'old' model despite its talents and I cant afford the new one when its released but who knows in the future i could sell the house ?!? :)

I did consider it, but it would be another £10k and the car would be just coming out of warranty. Advice from a number of people was to go with the TT-S as a financial propostion. I also considered having another RS4 or M3.

I mentioned Runflats in my previous post as our company BMW's have them and they are crap. Whilst BMW fit them as std, we wont be buying anymore BMW. The buggers also pick up punctures all the time.

Chins... please don't get me wrong at all I think your TT-S will be a fantastic piece of car! I really do! It will be fast, looks good and also safe.

Runflats I agree! They are too hard on the sidewalls... Couldn't you spec a BMW with standard tires? (never had a BM before...) Also the safety issue... yes in case of puncture they will hold a bit their shape and you will manage to control the car but my question is.... How often are accidents caused by a blown tire happen? usually tires either blow because they needed replacement long time ago or had the wrong tire pressures (usually lower tire pressures). I never knew any case or friend of a friend that had that happened inthe past 18 years.... I think there are other parts of the cars in general where more development would be better.

I like standard tires and will keep them... they are used in racing, high performance cars like porsches and ferraris so why not in my humble family car?

My Alpina doesn't have the run flats, which most say is a bonus.
However, it doesn't have a ****** spare either, not even a spacesaver.
Just some 'mousse' and a compressor.
The puncture procedure looks ridiculous, although it might not be that bad in practice (I'm not keen to find out).
I, along with other Alpina owners, have bought a used wheel and tyre from a breaker, along with a jack from Halfords.
You lose some boot space, but gain peace of mind.
So in the tyre/puncture/spare department, yes, BMW suck.

Thats a huge clanger on Alpinas part isnt it!!

Remove the runflat tyres but dont put a spare in!! I almost cant quite believe it! :sadlike:

Does your car have a hollow under the boot liner for a spare or do you have a dirty great wheel kicking around in the boot? :scared2:
 
The TT is the same Bowfer, some naff re-inflation kit but not run flats to my knowledge, I've already enquired about buying a space saver just waiting for the dealer to come back to me, there is no substitute for a spare.

Another car to consider next year if you want coupe looks blended with performance and economy - Alpina are putting the diesel from the 123D coupe in to the 3 seires coupe, twin turbos and 214bhp, 0- 60 6.0sec and 152 mph top speed, circa 34K, Mmmmm
