Just after a bit of advice if anyone can help me please. Ive just had our renewal quote through and its come in at £685 fully comp, which seems very expensive to me.

Im 35, my wife is 33, we both have clean licences, no claims ever made on an insurance policy, no accidents etc. My wife has 10 years no claims, Im not sure what the score is with me because I have been a company car driver for the past 10 years until 2 months ago. I have been onto our broker to see if they can come down on that price and there is nothing they can do. So I have got quotes from confused.com and moneysupermarket.com and the quotes are coming in much cheaper, the cheapest being £350 with Kwikfit insurance. Thing is, I dont know anything about any of these companies, are they so cheap because if I ever need to make a claim Im going to get fobbed off, or worse still, if my car gets stolen or written off are they likely to make a derisory offer?

I must add that I am putting my wife as the main driver as she uses the car for her mobile haridressing business plus she is the one with 10 years no claims, and Ive noticed a lot of companies wont offer a quote because the car is registered in my name and not hers.

Are there any better companies to approach out there?

thanks.

edit: something I forgot, my car has the factory fitted DVD sat nav and parking sensors. How do I notify the insurance companies of these extras as the only choice on the websites is "modifications" but if I select that there is no option for the extras I have? Surely these extras add value to my car?

Give More Than a call, I had both my A4 & the other half's car insured with them and they were very good imo. I paid £380 fully comp last June on my 3.0 quattro sport which is in a higher insurance group than yours will be! Im 31 with a clean history too by the way, also they dont mind insuring in one name whilst car is owned by another as my name in on the other half's cars V5 as the owner but the insurance is in her name.

Go with the cheapest in my opinion. I found confused.com brilliant, got my cover down to £225 from £600+.
Just cause you pay through the nose doesn't mean you'll get any better level of service if you need to make a claim. They are all shyte so why pay extra?
Wouldn't even worry about declaring extra's if there's no option to do so. On a car that age their worth is next to nothing.

Just got a online quote from them...................... £515! I wonder if its because the car is used for personal business and is kept on a street? :S

A car that age? Its only 3 years old mate! and the RNS-E would cost at least £400-£500 to buy from Ebay!

Just had our renewal through and its gone up nearly £200 from last years to £700, No claims no changes or anything.
Another one on the hunt for cheaper insurance.

I have a 53 plate 2.5tdi q sport, i'm 33, the wife 32. We both have about 6 years no claims and the missus has 3 points.

We pay £300 fully comp with only £150 excess.

The insurer ?..........The Post Office !!!!!!!

Try em, you won't believe it. I have been told however that more and more your premium relates to your postcode.

Post Office just quoted £593! This is ridiculous, as we get older our ****** premiums are going through the roof! :(

Slinger.....I have a 2.5 TDi Quattro Sport Avant....(Group 14 or 15)...I insure through
www.swiftcover.com
My insurance is about £330 per annum fully comp, protected no claims, legal cover, hire car, blah blah....which is scarily close to how much it will be to road tax it next year.....I live in PR7 area, but car is garaged, I am 47 & wife is 36...suggest you give them a try.....i have found rtheir service to be excellent

There's the problem right there I expect, personal business use will whack up the premium. Try a quote without that option for the usual social, domestic etc & travel to 1 place out of interest just to check your post code isnt at fault.

Cheers John,

the full monty with business cover and its £575 though, they also charge a whopping 23.59% apr for paying in monthly installments

Edit:- make that £606 with a £100 voluntary excess, it had a default of £250 which there is no way

Thats mightily expensive.....its obviously the "business" part of it thats pushing up the insurance.......
You may have to "bite the bullet".....can you not insure it via the wifes business ?

Thats scandalous.

For me and the missus £525 fully comp with Quinn Direct.

Thats living in Northern Ireland, car kept in residential carpark, me 26, her 34.

I have found Swiftcover.com the best I pay £258 fully comp no claims bonus protected group 20 S4< however I will add a coveat to that my 1.9tdi with the same company came in at a whopping £385 for the same cover.............. Maybe you should upgrade to an S4?????????:hubbahubba:

^ lol, I wish mate ^

Have finally got a good deal with a broker called Chris Knott down in Kent. It is the VWAudi Forum Member insurance scheme, so I called them this morning and got our new policy for £369 and that includes naming all the factory fitted extras

chaps i pay £1500 but then again i am 22

Ouch! What engine is in yours? I got my 1.8TQS when I was 20 and have never paid more than £1200, and I have more points than I'd care to admit!

Went with MORE THAN. Me 31, Mrs 29 on my Cabriolet. £400 fully comp for both drivers as main drivers (not one main and the other occasional), full business usage (added £10 to the policy!!). I also decided to pay over 10 months, which added 10% to the premium, or basically adding one months more payments !

So well happy with them so far.

Must be down to the area thing then - although I am in Sheffield and last time I checked my postcode was fairly bad for insurance... I am just renewing now, 6 years NCD, 15 points in the last 5 years (9 under 3 years), 1.8TQS, modified (slightly!) and quotes are just over £600...
