S3 - stone damage

I just got my Sprint Blue S3 three weeks ago and I dare almost not ask - what color might be the undercoat color?

Will none of the chips buff out?

I've just had a complete paint sealant job done on the car, but I guess that doesn't do much for grit, stone chips and other sorts of horrors?

Bl@@dy hell that is unlucky after such a short time!

I've just hit 12.5k miles in mine, 1600 or so miles in the last few weeks returning from the alps boarding. My car is nowhere near that state, can sopt the occassianal chip, not littered with them like your bumper! Are you driving to close to the car in front????

With regards to undercoats.
The bumper is black under all the paint - it's not the undercoat, it the plastic the bumper is made from. Most paints have a white undercoat on metal panels - i'd be surprised if the white car has a black one.... could be wrong!

well just thought i'd let you guys know that i got her back and she's looking BEAUTIFUL! R4000 for bonnet and bumper and 100% colour match.

I'll be taking her for the 3M bumper and bonnet wrap tomorrow which should protect my new beautiful paint.

Rich where you having the 3M done and how much they charging you for the bonnet and bumper?

Getting it done at VPS Randburg (JHB)

For the bumper, lights inc fogs, and front bit of bonnet its R3000. Pricey but a lot cheaper than a respray.

Does that wrap come in black only, or is it also available in transparent?

Is this the one?

If so, 6 in x 12 in doesn't seem very large. Should several packages be purchased?

If I got the link wrong, could someone show me the correct product to use?

Much appreciated!

Well i'm taking it to these guys (in south africa) http://www.vpsprotection.co.za/Homepage/homepage.html apparently you can't or really shouldn't do it yourself or you'll get bubbles and it'll look UGLY! :)

When done by a pro it's almost impossible to see. The guy told me that a lot of people come back because they don't think they actually got the film put on and he has to try point it out to them.

hmmm..not so sure if im keen on half the bonnet being done....surely there will be a visable line running accross the bonnet where the film ends... :uhm: cant they do the whole bonnet...that way the end of the film will run along the top of the bonnet neatly tucked away :icon_thumright:

Yeah i thought the same but the guy told me that it's really hard to see even with just the front bit of the bonnet covered. I'm going there this morning and will decide after i've seen a few examples. I'll try take some pics for you.

Make sure you do!!!

Ive gone with some Collinite Double coat wax for now.

Stone chips - grrrrrrrrrrrr

Got a new windscreen last Friday as my screen cracked.

Driving down the same piece of road this morning, crack, stone flies back from a jeep in front of me, cracks it again. Two screens in one week. I get the feeling this isn't a lucky car. I would drive on a different road, but its the only quick way to get to the M4 from where I live. Needless to say I'm frothing at the mouth as another £250 will come out of my wallet.

Holy crap £250 for a windscreen???

Surely its covered through your car ins? The excess is normally around the £60 mark??

It doesnt affect your NC bonus either.

I need to find out if they cover more than one claim. I didn't want a non Audi front screen, so I got Audi to do it, then sent the invoice to my insurers. I have to cover the first £75, but then over a certain value (which I can't remember offhand), I have to pay the difference between their limit and what I paid.

THe screen was £140+VAT, and the fitting was about £80-90 I think.

I wonder if they are likely to cover 2 screens in one week! So far I will have paid for 2 without having seen a penny come back in - bad luck happens in 3's so I'm clenching my **** cheeks just waiting for what is coming next!

I bought the Audi stone-chip protection film for my black SLine A3 (bonnet, wings, bumper, mirrors) although it wasn't fitted to the car before I picked it up cos Audi didn't get their act together! Anyway, on the drive home I got a huge stone chip on the bonnet and then someone ran over my car leaving dents in the bonnet and roof the week after.......

Needless to say the protective film was never fitted. It is still sitting in my garage in its packaging.....does anyone want it???

I don't have bad life so I shouldn't moan I guess. I don't want to be controversial but I'd rather be me with 2 broken windscreens that Shannon Matthews with her 2 'broken' parents. Kinda puts it into perspective poor lass.
