I hate people that:

-Cant Park
-Drive under the speed limit
-Drive in the middle lane of the motorway under 70
-Drive in the inside lane of the motorway, do 70, and when you catch them up, they dont move over to the middle lane, then give you dodgy looks when you under take them.
-Sunday drivers.
-People that dont know right of way.
-People that straddle both lanes at a traffic light so you cant get past them.

All very true. I'd like to quote Richard Porter, EVO magazine columnist, author and Top Gear script editor. He once wrote in a column that "any holder of a driving licence, who is not actively involved in the pursuit of driving excellence, should not hold a licence at all".

I'd agree with that to a point. It's exactly what I used to say before my wife and I had a baby. However, I now know how difficult it can be trying to get an infant carrier into a car. It's a nightmare. You have to try to hold the door so it doesn't touch the car parked next to you, whilst manoeuvering the infant carrier and not wanting to scratch either car (not to mention not dropping the baby - that's bad apparently ).

Personally, I'd be quite happy to have the parent and child spaces further away from the stores. That would prevent people from using them that don't need to park there or who are just to lazy to walk a few extra meters.

I regularly 'accost' people I see illegally parking in child bays.
It was a single young bloke in a new TT just last week, when I was on holiday.
Depending on my mood, it can be a simple ****-take like "you've forgotten your kids, mate" to a full blown rant.
Responses vary from completely ignoring me, to the inevitable "feck off".
The missus thinks my intervention is futile, but I refuse to let that stop me.
Turning the other cheek is what the scummy gits expect, which is why they do it in the first place!!

With regard to inconsiderate parking in normal bays, I left a note on a Volvo last week.
I also bent both it's door mirrors forward (not back, forward).
No damage is done this way, but many drivers are unaware their mirrors can do this and will panic.
It also inconveniences the twats.

The idea of parent child bays is to actually prevent cars from being damaged. We're in the process of buying baby seats for our 1st baby, and I now only appreciate the idea. It is impossible to get a baby seat into the rear doors of my car without the door being fully open. It is impossible to open the rear door fully in normal sized parking bays when the bay next door is occupied by another car. So, the choice is, park in a normal bay, and open my rear door banging it into the car next door(which is your car hopefully!), and then wrestle the car seat out, repeatedly banging my door into your car, and then banging the baby seat into your door, or, let me park in the parent child bay and everybody is happy.

I'd be much happier if a parent/child didn't park next to my car, children have no spatial awareness, and often open their doors into other cars, so let them have their own bays, and keep them away from my car.

Think I might just be unlucky but I find that it dosnt matter where I park-it can be right over the far side of tesco car park,nothing around and in an empty section, & I come out from the store with a people carrier or `family` car with kiddy seats in them beside mine, can be when the parent bays are not all full even, now I go in the other halfs car & dump it where ever. I dont believe your average parent gives a **** about other peoples cars weather in the correct space or not-some people just have no respect! If I had to use my car then I might be tempted to use a parent space, but I wouldnt take the last space if you know what I mean-I`m not that selfish...just a little.

I should have taken a picture, but yesterday I was due to go for a flying lesson, with a bit of time spare I stopped at Monks cross shopping centre to grab a sandwich from asda,

As it was around 10:20 on sunday morning the place was nigh on empty, however upon my return I nearly dropped my food when i saw the landcruiser parked about 4" off my door!! Had to climb in the other side haha!!

I really wish i'd taken a picture (i would have if i'd read this thread prior). It was soo ridiculous to see an empty car park with this guys grubby 4x4 nearly on top of my gleaming white S3!!

I cant figure out the mentality, I suppose his only saving grace is he was perfectly within his space.... I.e 3" over on each side

It all boils down to the fact that people just don’t give a sh*t about other peoples property. Some incidences are caused by people who are plainly thick. Some by the apathetic and others by people who just don't give a t^ss. It ridiculous that most of us have to have a "game plan" for parking in a public car park but that's just the way it goes I suppose. I've had loads of nods from admittedly, male drivers who are walking round their car before leaving the car park. On one instance, a bloke in a new M3 parked his car right next to mine and both the girlfriends were at the car park exit waiting for us as we performed the routine reconnaissance!

I can now look at a car park and tell you statistically what is the safest place to park based on layout, size and traffic flow. How sad is that!

How many people on here do a risk assessment of the cars parked next to them when they're parking? If there are toys or signs of children, it's a no no. Also, 4WD and people carriers, forget it! Furry dice and I'm out of that space in a hurry.

I too have been on the receiving end of some stick from the girlfriend about my parking idiosyncrasies, but as you say it's easier to put up with that than to pay for a dent removal.

Something I know now, that I didn't used to.
If the public have 'unhindered access' to the car park (covers all major supermarkets), it is classed as a public road and normal accident procedures apply.
So someone denting your car and driving off can get done for 'leaving the scene'.
Doesn't apply to car parks that close or have barriers etc.

they are simply their to draw in more customers

I will continue to shop in the other halfs motor but if I go in mine and there is a few parent spaces available then I will use one-like I said earlier I wouldnt take the last one but I dont see why its such a bad thing to want to keep your motor damage free!

No, I dare say in the 'great scheme of things' it isn't that bad.
However, when you are directly affected by it, as I'm sure most parents are at some point, it becomes intensely annoying, to the point where I'm sure assaults/damage does occur.
It's little things like this that make ordinary people see red.
If you can live with the fact you are potentially inconveniencing and angering people, to the point where they think you are an utter w*nker, park away...
